Very well animated and good explanation. I can say it is short and precise and contains maximum information

Very useful video to introduce the technique of LEIS to students (Thank you!!)

+Rachael Taitt Thanks a lot! Although the video cannot replace a real lecture, it is a good appetizer and gives a quick overview of the technique.

Nicely explained and animated! Thank you, this will help as I introduce my students to this technique.

+Robyn Goacher Thanks! Thats the reason I make such videos - visual study materials are useful for both students and lecturers.

+Captain Corrosion Wow, so what kind of software did you used? It's was an amazing work!

Aha good question! I bought me 3ds max for making animations and then sony vegas for video editing. Ofc i bought the sony vegas suite so in addition to sony vegas i also got Soundforge pro for making sound better (removes noise and clipping). In the suite package i also had sound effects and lots of royalty free music tracks. Thats pretty much all you need for making such videos :)

May I know the disadvantages of using this device? what are the drawbacks?
@CaptainCorrosion8 жыл бұрын
+Belvina Benjamin Hello and thank you for the excellent question! The main disadvantage is actually the same as its greatest advantage - surface sensitivity. Because you study the top 1-2 atomic layers on a material, any contamination (even an ultra thin adsorbed layer) will affect or even ruin your experiment. So the cleaning of the surface before a measurement is a very important step which may be problematic in some cases. Data interpretation may also be difficult sometimes. Generally LEIS and other characterization techniques such as XPS, XRF, SEM, AFM, XRD and TEM complete each other and using them together allows you to get an almost complete set of information about a material and make it possible to solve even complex problems.

What other universities are investigating this technology?
@CaptainCorrosion8 жыл бұрын
+Pedro Gomez Perez Hello there! Im teaching LEIS at the University of Tartu (Estonia) although we don`t have the device ourselves yet. If you need this state of the art technique to study a substrate and need to know what university with this device is closest to you then i suppose you can ask our partner (ION-TOF). Also, you can google the phrase "low-energy ion scattering spectroscopy university", which also gives you a lot of info about universities that use LEIS.

Thanks, is a good video, in which other web pages I can find more information?
@CaptainCorrosion8 жыл бұрын
+Alexa Brown Miller Thanks for positive feedback! LEIS is still a rather exotic materials characterization technique but the wikipedia page can help understand the principle. If you want more information about the systems, then visit our partners (ION-TOF) website.
