Just a guess but if it doesn't specifically say no overnight parking I would say you guys are good to go.

I know this is out of date now, but yes, you can stay there overnight, I have many times. I guess you didnt stop at Cornudas, great hamburgers there. Little gift shop too. Owner's name is May....and did you go thru El Paso on I-10 or over TransMountain? Very scenic over the Franklin Mountains.

I had a gas/headwind/uphill situation also and I ended up following an Eighteen-wheeler and have it cut through the wind.

Hi Guys. Great video. It is ok to stay over night in rest stops like that in some places and not in Others. Just depends on where you are and if the cops want to be nice or not. Great job. Love your videos!!!

I don't like to let my tank get much below half if I can help it. (OK I'm OCD) I fill-up when we were headed on long stretches between fuel areas even if I was sure I have enough. Don't know if you're a members but Good Sam club life-members get a discount at Flying Js on gas, diesel, and dump station. I'm one but prefer Love's because I prefer bio-diesel.

Overnight parking at rest stops varies by state. Most don't, New Mexico and Texas do, we're from Colorado which doesn't. A lot of rest stops post signs saying no overnight parking and list the maximum number of hours you can stay.

That's an ugly place to run out of gas. I'm glad you made it! I bet that picnic area is full at night.

This is what the GoodSam Club says" The State of Texas allows parking for up to 24 hours at any of their Rest Areas, Parking Areas or Roadside Picnic Areas, unless there are posted signs to the contrary. blog.goodsam.com/overnight-parking-in-rest-areas-texas

soaringtractor well if its 40 miles to the next station and you have 5 gallons to get you 35 miles. It's better to walk 5 miles than 40

Christina Coloradoan in Utah they have signs that tell tired drivers to stop at rest stops

You went right by my property outside Dell City TX.. How'd the truck and trailer handle the Guadalupe pass? And yeah that run from Carlsbad to Elpaso is dry (as in no fuel stops), best bet for fuel is go into Dell City, they have a couple gas stations and a couple stores.
@Totally-trailer7 жыл бұрын
Guadalupe Pass was easy but it was not very windy on the day we came though. I've heard some horror stories, the wind socks on the side of the road tell a story of some very windy days.
@Ebacherville7 жыл бұрын
I have hauled 3 campers through that pass.. the other way up is harder.. But yeah the headwinds on the wrong day can make it a challenge.. One day we were following a big rig hauling a 52 foot propane tanker trailer and his breaks were smoking going down that last grade in the direction you went. There is a truck bypass but its a long ways around. Some say its just desert out their, but we love that area .. thus why we bought property out there.. Occasionally the slat flats are covered in water.. its is a very diverse area lots desert wildlife, we have seen everything from Antelope to desert turtles and only spend a few weeks a year out there.
@Totally-trailer7 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Ebacherville that area is great, I was seriously considering staying the night at that rest area but because of the gas issue we decided to keep going. It's on my list to go back again ;)
@Ebacherville7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure on rules on those turn outs that are everywhere in TX.. but I can only assume if it doesn't say dont do it, its ok.. In TX they have garbage dumpsters all over on the side of roads that are for public use.. they would rather you use them than have the trash everywhere.. I assume the same goes for tired drivers... use the turn outs and be safe.. I have had my share of run ins with the TX state troopers, most are not unreasonable especially to non locals.. they are pretty friendly from my experience... even thought they have a reputation for being hard asses.. Also if your considering coming back through, Hueco Tanks is right on the path.. check it out.. You could do White sands, Hueco Tanks, and then Guadalupe Mountain park.. My folks have climbed to the top of Guadalupe Mountain (highest in TX) , its a day hike up and back down... We have been to Carlsbad caverns 3x now... never gets old, especially on a really hot warm day.. the natural AC is worth the price of admission.. Also the bat flights are cool at dusk.. they come all the way to our property by Dell City .. Anyways Happy Travels! Love the channel.

Guy Mooglie is exactly right, we try to plan our gas usage with great detail but this day caught us off guard. Mostly because of the lack of cell service in the area.
