Low profile door knob modification and install. Milling the shaft.

Hi Joel…… I'm looking to update the bathroom door for my mother (a dementia patient) with those recessed door handles, so that I can get her and her walker through unobstructed. I'm only finding them from China and Australia and the turnaround time is weeks to two months. Do you know where, the one's you worked with, were purchased? Thank you. - Joe

I believe my father in law picked them up from Lee Valley. I tried to find them myself at a later date and couldn't find them anywhere online. If you give them a call or check out their site you may be able to find something. www.leevalley.com/en-ca

I was JUST about to order the recessed handles from China through eBay, then I remembered seeing your video last week and thought I'd write and ask. I'll checkout their website. I already bought "expandable door hinges" on eBay and they work great, so the handles were next. Thank you, again!

@@JoelArseneaultKZbin Hi again…… I couldn't find the recessed door handles on the Lee Valley website that you suggested. But, since we last communicated, I purchased them through a China-based company and they surprisingly arrived in seventeen days. But, now I've run into the same situation that you demo'd in your clip here. I have to either find a shaft (spindle) that fits the 1 3/8" (1.375") width of the door or remove a 1/4" (.25") from one end. I first plan on checking with the nearby Home Depot to see if they happen to carry the exact size spindle. I don't have the machinery that you have, so if they don't have one, do you recommend a specific hand saw that I should use to make the trim?

jwl 2 if I didn’t have this equipment, what I would do is mark off, as accurately as possible, the material that needs to be removed. Then clamp it in a vice and use a good bastard file to remove the unwanted material. I used a milling machine with an end mill bit.

I have zero affiliation with that company. I was searching for a recessed or low profile and came across that knob setup in three different colors.
