Low Profile Oil Pan DCT Oil & Filter Change | Honda Goldwing 2018-2022

Great video! When I tried changing the DCT filter on my 2018 I had a lot of difficulty. The o-ring on the cover plate is tricky to get seated properly. My attempt resulted in either cutting or twisting the o-ring, making it fail. I took the bike to the dealer to finish the oil change. For the 2nd DCT filter change, I had the local dealer do the entire job. They, too, had problems. When I picked up the bike it was leaking oil through the DCT filter o-ring. They required 2 more attempts to get it right. In other words, they wasted a lot of oil to get it right because you can’t verify the installation is correct until you’ve replaced the oil and run the bike some. I’ve also read posts from other riders on this subject. At this time, I think I will have the dealer do the oil changes when a DCT filter change is due. I can do the standard oil change just fine. You seemed to have no difficulty at all. Do you have any special advice?

That’s a good question the best advice that I could give is to just take your time today ensure that the job is performed correctly. Thank God that I’ve never had any issues charging the oil on my DCT.

I recommend you always use a new o’ring, add engine oil or an o’ring lubricant to the new o’ring, make sure the transmission casing where the filter cap o’ring seats is clean then finally and most important, raise the filter cap evenly with the two bolts into the transmission case. Just FYI, o’rings are one time use. You are rolling the dice if used more than once. Good Luck.

Thanks for the video Chris! It's funny, I picked up the same oil pan when I was at a Tractor Supply. At the time, I was thinking "well, this looks pretty handy, but I've already got two others, so I don't really need it". But somehow, that pan just mind-melded with me 👻and found its way into my hand and to the checkout counter. Now? Whoa, man, this is my go-to drain pan. The oil filter holder/drainer is VERY helpful. This pan is one of the best 'I almost didn't buy it' purchases I've ever made!

Pro’s Corner presents! I like how you work Chris. With a plan laid out, thinking before-hand what correct tools and supplies needed and have them set out before you. You’d be surprised at how some basics are taken for granted and a is process halted leading to mistakes. Then take it slow and specific as to not be rushing. Reduces leaving out washers or cross threading of bolts, etc. The Manual transmission requires only 1 drain plug versus the DCT with 3. Nice work.

@@chriscaliente5033 G,Day Folk,s does any one use Magnet Sump Plugs some people tape Magnets long ons around the Old Filter it picks up small shaving from inside of there donk it really works Friends .Try it Buy a Magnetic Sump Plug .

I really like the oil pan. Thanks for that. Anyhow, I do use 22 ft/lbs per bolt since day one and always new washers, and 19 on the filter. Never had one issue !!!!! By the book!

Though I don't have a gold ring Chris I have an FJR 1300 I love watching your videos in regards to oil and it's longevity 2 years ago I rode from Seattle to Orlando took an oil sample did not change my oil and I sent it off to a lab and it was in incredible shape it was rotella t6 almost didn't like new shape after 3,000 300 mi roughly I never have had the second sample checked which would have $6,800 miles on it I think I should have that checked I still have the bottle I use that as an example because we both have very powerful low stress engines so I'm sure your Honda goldwing doesn't wear at all going 6,000 miles between oil changes

The manual version only uses one drain plug. The angled one at the front by the oil filter.

I think the transmission filter uses a 8mm socket

You may use a metric or standard socket, just long as you don't strip the head of the bolt like a dummy, LOL.

Question for you have you ever checked it and it seems like it needs more the the requirement amount of oil . I put 4.9 after a complete oil change and ran it for about 15mins then I waited 3 min like manual said and I had it on the center stand and seems like it needed more.??

yep...2022 dct needs about 3-4 oz more after warming up on ctr stand following a full oil and tranny fluid and filter change.

The Goldwing DCT model as 3 oil drain plugs but the manual transmision only has 1 drain plug. Thats 4.9 quarts of oil with filter change for the DCT and 3.9 quarts of oil with filter change for the regular Goldwing Manual transmission

The Goldwings has wet clutches which means that the same motor oil that lubricates the engine also lubricate the transmission clutch therefore the Goldwing DCT transmission has an additional clutch filter (transmission filter). I only use 4 stroke oil that’s formulated for wet clutches that exceeds the manufacturer recommendation this is why I put in Amsoil 100% Synthetic, not transmission fluid. BTW, Amsoil does make transmission fluid too.

The gentleman keeps mentioning manufactures specks for the bolts...... he never uses a torque value device..

If I say don't jump off a bridge because it's dangerous that doesn't mean that I will demonstrate jumping off a bridge to show it dangerous. Use common sense, every bolt on a motorcycle has a recommended torque setting including the oil filter and the oil drain crush washer bolts, but how many people actually use a torque wrench to tighten a oil filter and drain plug, use my videos for pointers not to be used as a Certified Honda paid training video LOL.

Chris if you are going to teach others how to perform a certain procedure you owe it to your viewers to model proper procedure. This would include not only using a torque wrench but displaying what the manufacturers recommended torque values are. Honda pays their engineers big money to properly engineer these machines so it makes good sense to follow their recommendations. Having said that Chris you are not alone in that I can count on one hand the number of people who post these types of videos and follow sound mechanical principles. One would think there is a shortage of torque wrenches in this country. Lastly Chris please don’t jump off any bridges, but do learn how to swim just in case you accidentally fall off one. By the way, I do like your videos.
