Barry, you have excelled yourself. What an amazing video. First of all, glad to see your wife is feeling better. Albanillas (Albaniyas) is such a beautifull place. It has really been beautified since I was last there in th 80's. Such a shame that it's so hard to find a bar open in the afternoon. The biggest enjoyment for me when visiting these pueblos is to go to the bar where the locals go. Nothing like it. Great vvideo Barry. Thank you.

I find the contrast with the UK interesting, 'cause where I live in Berkshire it's the big towns (Reading and Slough) where the cheapest properties are and the small towns/villages like Henley/Marlow/Sunningdale etc. are where all the rich people live
@bricklayersworldwithandy62778 ай бұрын
Do not even consider purchasing a property in any of these inland towns to live permanently unless you have a good level of Spanish, it simply dosent work.

@bricklayersworldwithandy62778 ай бұрын
@@colmranger It did me, you need to know when you are being ripped off but unfortunately some people are just to old or dont have the aptitude to learn.I know people who have lived on the coast for 25 years and do not speak one word of Spanish because you dont have to, living inland is totally different experiance.

There are indeed in some ridiculously cheap properties in Spanish villages when compared for example to major cities and to the UK. But you have to ask the question why this is the case. Simple, nobody wants to live there, especially young people to whom such communities offer nothing. Cheap, yes, but if there is no prospect of ever selling it if you want to move in the future for some reason hardly a wise investment. Spain is full of abandoned, unsalable properties for this reason.

As we gaze out over the village at 1:01 minutes, once again I am struck by the lack of solar panels on the roofs. I have been looking for a pagoda with built-in solar panels to put on my roof terrace in Playa Flamenca. Pagodas / toldas are easy to find, but I would have thought incorporating solar panels would be a no-brainer - the electricity produced would pay for the pagoda, solar panels, battery and converter. I have a eBay £100 solar set-up on my shed in the UK to charge my tools. Why, in your opinion, is the pagoda with solar panels not a thing in Spain?

What a fascinating place - very interesting video, thank you. As a spaniel lover I was totally distracted by Ginny’s constantly wagging tail initially, so had to watch a second time 😂 I agree with some other comments about the need to be fluent in Spanish to happily live in an inland village - whilst we have been learning Spanish for a few years now, learning a new language can be more difficult as you get older - I still feel more competent at French which I learned at school - so am grateful for the coastal region being generally more forgiving to the Spanish learner.

Watch who you say siesta to, the Spanish are offended by you saying they have a siesta. The first time we went to Spain we said was the town abandoned because it was siesta time. The tourist board said we do not say that because it insinuates that we are lazy and need a sleep in the afternoon. They are just at home waiting to go back to work later
@luis-y7v2d8 ай бұрын
Because from 2 to 4 pm in Spain is time to eat, that's why you don't see people on the street. Just because you eat at 12 doesn't mean that it's done in Spain. Many foreigners interpret that people are sleeping.

Nice video Barry & Karen, lovely little Spanish villages but not everyone's cup of tea, it's no wonder properties are cheap there, locals try to leave for better lives elsewhere, little or no public transport, less amenities, poor services, lots of unemployed and probably squatters, burglaries and abundance of drugs, sorry I'm paining a grim picture. It was more idealistic 40~50 years ago when there were many Hippy's, tie-dye'd clothes, locals still using horses and donkeys plus the odd resident Brit ex-con or two 😄
