This is dumb....if your setting up savings for a kid...do a passive ETF dont let them touch it till they are 35 via a trust....way way way better than a savings account.

you do lose money. in a stable economy with a 2-5% inflation rate, this could work- but we don't have a stable economy (American POV). regardless of fed stats, look at groceries. look at rent, at the housing market. the bubble isn't burst, and things will continue to increase, daily, monthly, and yearly. for the average person, compounding interest isn't a viable option in today's market. educating people on economics is well and good, but blind advice never works.

This is only partly true. Diversify into everything, while utilizing your savings account and low risk investments as sort of a safety net. That way, if s*** is hitting the fan with the market with those stocks and ETFs, at least you have cash to fall back on. 👌💯

An ETF means “Exchange Traded Fund,” - a mutual fund (a portfolio of different stocks/securities) that trade on the stock exchange (New York Stock Exchange.) People like ETFs because the fee is very small compared to traditional mutual mutual funds (0.03% vs 1-2% for a classic comparison), you can buy/sell ETFs anytime because it trades like a stock- hence “exchange traded” and you can buy as little as little as even a fractional share to get started. The most popular kind of ETF is an S&P 500 ETF which tracks the 500 largest US listed companies in the world. BlackRock’s IVV, State Street’s SPY, and Vanguard’s VOO are your most popular/efficient and cheapest options. Their fee is 0.03% if you choose IVV or 0.09% if you go with SPY. They represent the lowest fees in the market. Hope this helps.

"High-yield" interest savings accounts are a joke. The national average APY is .5%. Very few pay over 3% and even then, with annual inflation rate, you're barely making a profit. You're better off investing in the S&P.
