Looking up the license plate in the video, it is Californian and was created in 1986. Cadilllac is the make and the model is DeVille. Furthermore, at the end we see a final shot of the two motel doors, where we are showed that the door next to theirs was "2 0" maybe showing how many sacrifices are made.

Looking at this after seeing some gameplay of DS, it seems almost like the characters are "beaching" themselves or something, for whatever reason/ joy they get out of that. In one of the cutscenes, the President was telling Sam to close his eyes and think about something like his happiest thoughts or something, and then he just disappeared, much like what seems to be happening in the bathroom.

The man and woman who went into the bathroom were fast asleep (with her leaning on him) during the entire car ride to the motel, whereas the guy that drew the short straw was wide awake and faced away from them-disconnected. Kojima said this is a game about connections. Also, with Ryan as the driver he seems to almost be in control-or at least know what's going on in the room and who drew what straw-as evidenced by his knowing smiles once things get weird. Is he supposed to be a representation of Kojima? Another traveler from Room 0 who has ascended to the role of driver? The man who drew the longest straw and went first seemed to be more engulfed by the Black Oil than the woman. The man also seemed to be screaming whereas the woman seemed to be in state of bliss. The mirror in PT conspicuously was unable to show your reflection, whereas both the man and woman first look at themselves in the mirror before turning around to look at the devices ("Look behind you. I said, look behind you!"). The TV in the room doesn't work until the first man gets teleported. After the woman gets teleported, ALL the electricty in the room goes haywire, culminating in the room glitching out (just like PT) when the man who drew the short straw tries to bypass the system and enter the bathroom unauthorized. Was this man inherently unfit for...whatever the hell is happening? Was he predetermined to draw the short straw? Once he leaves is he able to return to the room and try again?

the story is set pre-stranding, but not by much. the driver is going to supernaturally active sites (in this case, a haunted motel) to collect liquid chiralium(tar) to allow people to escape to their beaches in the hope of surviving what's coming. at this point, chiralium is still very precious, though concentrations are on the rise in these hotspots. there might be enough for all three, but, well -- there might not. they draw straws. the first two are able to escape, but the remaining would-be expat knows by how long it takes her that there won't be any left for him. inside the bathroom -- is there enough? is there not? the cameras don't pick it up, descending into video corruption. it's daylight. either dawn has passed in an instant or the remaining man has spent too much time cursing his lot. he returns to the man outside and they drive -- on to the next hotspot, not knowing how much time is ticking down to the reckoning.

I heard it's a teasing of the Death Stranding (which i'm excited for) The machine is definitely a thing that's transporting these people to a different location. Most likely with how the death stranding trailer was. The original one, it reminds me of something that'd transport you to a higher place in life. Sort of like the coming of jesus to take people and leaving the unlucky behind. I'm just speculating though.

the black liquid, the strand like device, all very familiar. he drew the shortest stick, he is in the real world. The people behind the door in the bathroom are dead and in purgatory, he is trying to reach them but can't and is banging on the door. This is almost 100% related to death stranding. He opens the door the world around him changes because the door opened a new reality. it is night time when he exits the motel door, and the universe shift is apparent by the "glitch" in the video. It is day time as he comes down the stairs signifying entering a new dimension. Or some shit I don't know.
