@@gregcaspn In Denmark most people who do sail planes don't own the sail planes themselves. Instead they are member of a club, paying a monthly fee of around 100 Euros, and then they can just borrow sail planes from the club.

So, how exactly does this 2 kWh allowance work? I understand that you can use that much during task at your own discretion (and I love the tactical implications of that), but what if you use more? Penalty points on the day score? Or is it considered an end of task (equivalent of an outlanding) at the point where the quota is exeeded? How about if you use less, is there a bonus or something? Can there ever be a situation when you wouldn't want to use all of the quota to begin the final glide that much further out?

@SteFly
@SteFly 5 жыл бұрын
Darüber muss man erst einmal viel Erfahrung sammeln.

In US and Europe glider Clubs are pretty common. Just ask and they will be pleased to introduce you to soaring. You can start with your flights at the age of 14 and get your licence at 16. In the US the SSA has a 'where to fly' page: www.ssa.org/WhereToFly For the UK the British Gliding Association has a great website with all the information you want: www.gliding.co.uk/club-finder/ Watch the channel wolds glider pilot to see how a young pilot does his practical education. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXPKiaWPjNV0btk By watching his videos I decided for myself, Hey I can do this too... All the best from Vienna

In general that was not a easy competition area for making outlandings. At the river valley it is flat and would have been possible for making an outlanding.

The complete package of the glider, equipment and trailer costs about 150.000 € + VAT. You need a sailplane pilot license to fly this glider. I´m not sure about the minimum hours needed for the license, but it takes some time.

Can i ask why in the most stress situations you have to also hear the most annoying sound in the world? I really want to know
@SteFly
@SteFly 5 жыл бұрын
Because this sound is the acoustic variomter and it tells you if the air is rising or not. So it is very important to find lifts and at the same time you are able to look outside of the cockpit to the clouds, birds and other important factors that can help you to find thermals.

the beeper so annoying and unnecessary
@SteFly
@SteFly 5 жыл бұрын
It is necessary, because we glider pilots want to stay in the air without engine. The variometer is the most important instrument of a glider and beeing able to look outside of the cockpit and knowing if the air is rising or not, is very useful.
