I started doing stuff like this due to it being hard to get weights. I started thinking how I have Logs, Rocks, and plenty of other stuff that has suitable heft for weight lifting. It’s what people used to measure strength before weights were a thing. My wife says I look crazy lol. I even started weighing my stones and writing the weights on them. I have a 70lbs stone and a 100lbs stone I weighed to do squats and shoulder raises with when I’m outside.

This video reminded me of the "low tech, high-effect power training" that my Dad would make me do - shoveling snow. Most kids were happy when snow fell, but I dreaded shoveling that heavy wet snow.

I coach for a living though so the garage is used by athletes, but the tire itself doesn't take up much room when stored upright against the wall.

@@RossEnamait1977 hi where can i get large tires?
@RossEnamait19774 жыл бұрын
@@JZTechEngineering You can find a few related articles on my blog, but you can usually acquire large tires for free from tire shops that are looking to dispose of them (older, used tires). That is how I acquired each of my large tires.

@RossEnamait19775 жыл бұрын
That particular ball is an actual medicine ball. I've had it for years. I can't recall the name brand as it's worn off from being used over the years. It's probably 10+ years old.

Ross, I would be interested on your take concerning dieting & supplements for optimum energy. Especially for older athletes.
@RossEnamait19775 жыл бұрын
I don't have any fancy advice to share. I'd say that many focus too much attention towards various diets and supplements and not enough on lifestyle. There's really nothing fancy about what I do. I live clean, try to get a decent night's sleep, exercise/move every day, etc. I also eat quality foods for the most part, but also think it's important to enjoy yourself a bit too.
@gsg9ff5 жыл бұрын
@@RossEnamait1977 Your intensity level in training is extraordinary for a 40s athlete. However, I know your standards of training have always been hard high level/ intense so it's normal for you and you are naturally a gifted phenom athlete. I've slowed down noticeably since my odometer hit 40 as fellow mature athletes I encounter. I generally eat healthy with training/rest but at times feel like I may need a supplement for that energy edge/recovery during training (feel sluggish sometimes & recover slower) and I know it's age related for the most part. I am hesitant about powders & capsules but maybe it's worth looking into?!
@RossEnamait19775 жыл бұрын
I don't work with you on a daily basis so there's only so much I can go on from a brief reply. With that said, I still believe that most people have plenty of room for improvement in regards to how they train, rest, recover, etc. I don't think there's a supplement in the world that's as useful as fixing every aspect of one's lifestyle that we can fix/control. In addition, I've written several articles on my blog about including lighter days for recovery, etc. There's much more to what I do than simply train hard. The lighter days are equally important IMO.
@gsg9ff5 жыл бұрын
@@RossEnamait1977 That makes more sense to me. You are right, one cannot have complete faith in supplements than in what we can change with eating healthier & a full comprehensive approach to improvement and getting better at training. Thanks for the advice.

Still no snow down that way I see . Awesome video Coach Ross. What would be some power training moves without odd objects. like specifically bodyweight power training to increase punching Power ?
@RossEnamait19775 жыл бұрын
Best way to build punching power is by punching. Bang away HARD on the bag (think back to how George Foreman used to smash the bag). As for bodyweight movements that are explosive though, plyo-pushups, various jumps, sprints, etc. Lots of options.
