This Mounting Bracket is used to mount low voltage devices directly to drywall, tile, or plaster. This bracket eliminates the use for electrical boxes and it can be easily installed with 2 screws and bend-around tabs. It is compatible with all standard single gang wall plates. Use this bracket with volume controls, switches, or wall plates.

These metal mounting brackets suck. Get the plastic version for less than $3 at HD. I tried one of these metal ones from MediaBridge and mounted a speaker wall plate to the drywall. Connected my surround speakers to it and then tried to set up the receiver and add the surround channels to a 5.1 system. The surrounds were very faint and barely audible. I messed with it for a few days and was almost ready to buy a new receiver. I finally double checked the speaker wires at the wall plate and realized that one of the wires was shorting out on the metal bracket. My bad, but if it was made of plastic it would have been a non-issue.

This is very flimsy people - dont do this. When u first trip on a wire connecting to such otulet - this will likely to rip it off the wll along with the screws and chunks of drywall. Also drywall screw is too close to the drywall hole - i can already see it's cracking off during installation whether u predrill or not.

@@hugopaul2 For better stability you need to attach a box to solid a wooden stud, not simply hang it on drywall with screws.

Did he drill 4 holes, one in each corner for the mounting bracket cutout?

I think those were just to make cutting the sheetrock easier. Instead of using the hand saw and forming corners by hand, you drill the four corners and then play connect the dots. If you look right at 40-41 seconds, you'll see he's using the outside of the drill holes, so the holes act as a fillet in the corners.

I've seen some people install a wall plate without a low voltage plate, do you really need one?

If you can get the screws into the drywall without it cracking, and the plate is level. Yeah sure, I've done it that way.
