Steve, good video on diagnosing the problem. It is amazing the build up deposits in supply, just goes to show that they should be considered when this situation is presented.

Did you advise her that the Pro-Vent is too low and it should be rise up. The kitchen is way too low and the bathroom could be higher as well. That look like type M pipe in the bathroom (red marking) usually red for M and blue for L

Cholesterol? U mean minerals build up or chlorine build up? It was too tough to get the cartridge out so I gave up. I am afraid to get into another cartridge situation like when I replace the bathroom cartridge.. was a complete pain. I can handle a few drops

Hey Steve - great video! Quick business question for you though.... I’m assuming you simply got a call for low pressure on those fixtures, correct? I see that part of the service call is to troubleshoot and figure out exactly what needs to be done (replace the fixtures, supply lines, etc...). After you figure out it’s build up in the valve - do you stop and let the homeowner know what the problem is and give them the estimate for your work? I only ask because you have to cut into pipes for you to really narrow things down and your prices may be different based on what part(s) of the system needs fixing. Just wondering if you ever have a simple service call that ends in a very expensive fix that the homeowner wasn’t expecting and want to know when you estimate the cost for your services!

my job is to fix the problem so i did and gave her the bill .total labor was 1 1/2 hours plus parts . she was happy with good water flow .

After seeing this, I suppose that I, also, may need to replace my bathroom sink's shutoff valves. They certainly look corroded enough to be the originals. Plus the faucet is new. Btw, your dog is so well behaved. :-)

Hello Steven, I'm a beginner so I use compression valves, are these reliable and would you use them? Great videos!
@tomm80254 жыл бұрын
Compression valves are reliable and very commonly used. Only issue with them is that over the years as the valves have to be replaced you often have to cut back the copper pipe as the ferules shouldn't be re-used and often leave scars on the soft copper. I personally have gone to sweating on a nipple and then screw on a new valve, That way in the future, you can just unscrew the old valve on screw on a new. Just my preference after remodeling several older homes.

So all you did to solve the problem was to remove and replace all the valves ?

that build up is gross and to think water is running thru that makes me never want to drink tap again. What happens when you have to do this a few times over the years and run out of room on the copper pipe

Can't you usually open up the kitchen faucet valves and replace stuff in there? I've had to put a new mixing valve/cartridge thing in mine before. I think it was like $20 and fixed a similar looking problem on mine.
