Yes, the US government has failed miserably in accepting Climate change and decreasing the factors that are causing it. BTW the world average temp, in 2024, fast past the 1.5 C increase, over pre industrialized levels, that the majority of scientist calculated, if maintained, will be beyond the point of return. Hope this comment doesn’t get deleted So the root cause of the lack of water is the city had a contract with a water provider to refill the 3 tanks. The contract required semi trucks be available 24/7 to fill those tanks incase refill was required. In a cost saving effort, they chose not to renew that contact… figured 3 tanks of a 1 mil gallons each would allow them to source the water on the open market if needed. Wouldn’t imagine 3 mil gallons would get depleted so quickly.... Well, it did. That, coupled with the states choices to not clear dead trees because environmentalist pleaded with officials that natural decay is best for the eco system…. Maybe they’re right, but it feeds fires too. Sadly, That’s not how your run an emergency service.. you operate worst case scenario. This was a genuine failure of leadership.

They have an OCEAN full of WATER right in front of them! Fight fires like they do in Hawaii! I used to live on Maui and lightening would occasionally strike the sugar cane fields which really burn! The Maui Fire Dept. would send the helos, which would scoop water out of the ocean in a big bag under the helo, then fly straight up to the fire and dump! It was a fast, access to water while the fire engines would pull off hydrants! It takes time to land, hook up to a hydrant and pull off a hydrant while it takes much less time to pull out of the ocean......never landing, just coming and going with FREE water! It's been a few years since I lived on Maui, but i bet they still fight fires the same way.

If you bother to either read reports about the fire, or at least have a minuscule comprehension about what you are talking about, you would have known that no helicopters were flying, either fresh or salt water, because the winds were FAR too strong (around 100 mph) to safely fly ANY aircraft near a large fire. As an architect, I say the following: They would have to issue fire regulations for construction. Because timber-framed buildings look like stacked wood from pallets. They burn down in a storm. Did the power outage contribute to low water supply? Pumps are required to pump water into water tanks. There was talk diesel generators was implemented do to emergency conditions for street hydrants to have pressure.

Yes but it’s uncommonly done. I already agree they should have used this method this time as one of those rarer times to uncommonly use the saltwater that happens to be ALLLLLLL AROUND them… The thing with salt and metal airplanes, is I’m only guessing the saltwater would make the airplanes pretty much rusted flying rust buckets and would start a lifeline timer on them so this is why they would use it as a last resort but as it stands this is a multi billion dollar loss and I think the billionaires and millionaires that live there would have been more than happy to donate something to buying some more planes or something… maybe I’m wrong. I’m pretty sure some of those mansions are worth more than those planes. 😅
