@@Grindordont I do agree with you there, *most* are ugly, especially the ones with the pointy overly extended upper cutaway, but when companies do come out with something different, like the fender dimension or the gibson eb-13, the bass community hivemind never gives it a fair chance

I recently bought the V5 in natural and to me it also nicely compliments the roasted neck and fretboard. It is my first Jazz bass andI am pleased with the sound and feel. I ordered mine in January from Thomann and paid $399! I also bought a Harley Benton PB 50 I had been wanting and express shipped was only $100 fro Germany. So even at $450 it was cheaper than what I was able to find available here in the US.

Few years ago I bought M7 and it was really nice instrument and it sounded great. BUT I returned it due to the neck dive, a got myself Cort B4 Artisan, which actually has light hipshot and is balanced perfectly.

How many years more do we have to wait until Sire makes these basses with lightweight tuners and lighter overall weight? I had bought a V7 5 string and it killed me weighing 10 3/4 lbs so I soon sold it. Actives have too many damn knobs, too. Thanks for another great review, Lobsta! This is a pretty bass and good value.

I dropped a John East J-Tone preamp in my V5. Couldn't be happier with the tones I'm getting with this combination, the passive tone control gets a lot of use. The V5 is a great sounding and playing bass. Personally I think the champagne gold metallic would look even better with a tort pickguard.

I've got a D5 with a Seymour Duncan Stinger and I love the bass. The feel playing the neck is fantastic. Which I believe is the same neck as the D5. When I was in the market for a Jazz recently the V5 was on my short list, I ended up with a Fujigen. Which is fantastic too. I must say I love that champagne color.

@@MrCalifornia0 The Fujigen. Fujigen makes many of the Fender MIJ instruments, and the Fender MIJ reputation was built on Fujigen. It's like American Standard quality at Fender Player prices, and that's only because shipping is so expensive from Japan.

Great review lobs, you always have a great eye for quality bass manufacturing and I bought a u5 because of your recommendation and was still pleasantly surprised when I got it. I would love a review of the fender meteora bass if you could get your claws on it. I've been interested in it for a couple years now but can't find a store that has one in stock. I'd like an opinion from a reviewer I trust before spending half a month salary on a new bass. It looks and sounds bloody great but every review I can find sounds like a commercial.

I'm a guitar player shopping for my first bass. I saw a used Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass at the local Guitar Center for $499 (not a fan of the company, but only local store carrying many PRS guitars, which I'm also shopping for, and the GC staff was very helpful). Anyway, I really wanted to buy the Fender - it's a great deal! However, while the Fender was fine, I wasn't bonding with it. I saw a Sire V3, and it was substantially easier to play, had a great variety of tones, and sounded very good. I'm now likely going to get a Sire - the V5 is tempting, and this (and the rest of your videos) are very helpful and entertaining. That said, I am curious if the updated V7 has improved substantially since you last reviewed it.

I picked up one of these last summer from Thomann (the only store on earth who had them at that time) for $400 (plus $67 shipping to US). Every time I pick it up I feel like I stole it. The materials and craftsmanship are what you'd expect on a bass retailing for two or three times as much. I don't know why anyone bothers to pay the Fender tax at this point when other brands are delivering this kind of quality for so much cheaper.

I definitely spent way too much on a CS jazz about 10 years ago and I regret it more every time I see a bass like this. Of course it's nice but it simply wasn't worth the money. Sire wasn't really a thing back then so 🤷‍♂

I picked up a V5 for a song and it's become my 'workhorse' - so playable. I'm just trying to track down some Gotoh GB528 tuners but here in the UK, everyone seems to be out of stock - waiting for my order to come in. I'm really amazed at the quality of the instrument. Also, I see Sire have also released a V5 with 24 frets. The body of the instrument looks smaller, perhaps to allow for improved upper position access? Thanks for this review, I suppose now I'll have to get my hands on one just to see if the new 'roll' on the neck, makes a difference. Salutations!

You did a good job showcasing this bass (I wasn't very familiar with Sire...) both in terms of stating its' features/specs and also with to the point audio playing demos - like PUPS at 100%/50/0. And I can tell you've been woodshedding: Rick Beato will be happy! And I enjoy watching the enjoyment on your face as you finish your various etudes in funk: that's what it's all about! 1 question: I saw a couple of used Sterling Ray 4-str basses in like-new condition on CL asking for like $250 and $225. Good deal, and/or how would you compare your Ray (you modified it a bunch, I believe...?) to the Sire or the new Squire short scale you showed us a few days ago? TIA

Ever play a short scale? The Sire u5 is a blast to play and it’s a PJ setup. Super comfortable, light, and a really beautiful looking guitar. Lobster gave it 5 claws and I wholly agree. It plays and looks like a $1200 bass should for a little over $500…cheaper from Thomann even with shipping

@@swperry04039 Nice! I had my eyes on a U5 for a bit. I actually traded a Hofner club bass for the stingray, and I also have a mustang bass. Short scales are fun but I usually gravitate towards full scale for some reason. The Hofner and the mustang are great to play though.

@@jerryjb bass is my double (tenor sax) and I love my regular scale instruments, but as a part time bass player (one gig a week plus occasional freelance stuff) I have to say the shorter reaches make it a lot easier to get around quickly when I haven’t been spending a ton of time on it. It’s also my first bass with the rounded fretboard/ neck edges and wow does it make a difference; particularly if you don’t have long fingers

I've never owned or played a jazz bass weirdly. Was just wondering on the v5 are you able you able to slightly roll off one pickup? Ot is it case when you start rolling off one it just stays 50/50 until you get to a point in the tirn where it jumps too 100% of one pickup. My rickenbacker 4003 pretty much jumps from all on to all off without much gradient if any. I noticed an online video where jazz bases are like this?
