Yep. It's a multiscale bass. Passive, it's a triple single, but I haven't dug into their pickups so they might be split singles but with their placement, you know what's gonna happen lol *T O N E C A P S U L E APPEARS* BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM The magic is in the glass of darkness. ha ha ha you should hear a 7 string guitar through darkglass hardware lol it's pretty epic.

Congrats, I've got myself an NG2 a few years ago and probably my nicest playing bass. That's the nicest color Dingwall offers in their production line basses IMO, that gold REALLY pops. Real tip though, stock up on strings when you can get a good deal on sets.

Great vid~ I had a Dingwall Z1 in 2006 for a few years. I loved the low anything notes but couldn't get used to the 18mm bridge spacing. My other bass is a Lakland 55-94 at 19mm & I really could feel the difference~ the 18mm felt cramped to me when slapping. I also didn't like the bridge pickup sound at all & the neck on its own wouldn't cut through the mix like I needed it to, so I sold it. The I bought a LeCompte fanned fret but it's 36" B didn't ring like the 37. Kiesel makes a fanned fret with 19mm but the B is also 36". If they will do one with a single P bass puckup I may give it a try, but they would have to use a brass nut or something. The challenge with Dingwall is having an amp that can REALLY project that low B string & not rolloff. Most player think that their amp can 'handle the low B with ease', but most really can't.

That matte orange (gold?) finish is gorgeous. I am excited to see a multiscale shootout with the NG3 and the EHB series. The EHB has the advantage on price, weight, and versatility of string choice, but the Dingwall's got that 37'' B string. You know what you need to do.

This is currently the best demo I've seen of a Dingwall. Most of the others make them seem like one trick ponies, but you've already showcased some really diverse and even old school-ish tones. I hear a lot P in that neck pickup. I'd love to hear it compared to the Ps, Js, and Rays you've got!

Good ear...under those shells are P style split coils. The coils can be wired in series (more P like) or in parallel which sounds a bit wider and closer to a Jazz sound. Though if you want to be really close to the classic tones, check out the Super-P and Super-J they're the same fan but 32"-35".

That color is something else, sick! It’s not so fish the color, but the finish, and it works with the fretboard and black pickguard. I do think black hardware would have complimented the whole design a bit better, but it still looks cool AF. The neck taper looks pretty extreme, are the strings really right up near the neck? Or just really wide near the body? Or an optical illusion? Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday to You🎂

Thanks Toby! The taper isn't really that extreme, feels like a normal and very comfortable neck (not too thick but not too shallow). Not a lot of adjustment needed below the 12th fret.

Dingwall's get pigeon holed because of all the Heavy Metal demos. But you can play anything with them. Especially since the three pickup model which is very versatile.

Great question Mistic! There's a LOT of basses in that particular price range that do a lot of different things, hard for me to pick favorites... that being said both of my 5-claw FGNs were under $1k new and I looooove em. There's some awesome stuff from Schecter, Reverend, Sire, Sterling by Music Man, ESP LTD, and others that are all in there.

I think you got the wrong dongwall man, that's too clean and normal sounding. You can tell the notes they're not hidden under agressive distortion. Also that's tubed standard I think that's wrong you should tune to drop negative E and just the lowest string with a pick and NOW we're speaking *Dongwall* Jokes aside AYYY congratulations Man! That's one of the better looking dongs I've seen. You have some elite tastes you made a dingwall look nice
