in plains its easy for anyone to cover miles....in delhi ncr there are people who go ladakh every year on their 3 4 year old splendor...so in hills its always about the rider....no matter someone has done even world tour on two wheels...

Don't rev the engine too much in high altitude, use clutch control with minimal acceleration.

So you need to get the jetting done on your carb from Manali. Second you remove your Air filter/open air box/ or get an aftermarket air-filter for high altitude. A simple hack for this terrain, carry a 40 teeth rear sprocket from Karizma, change it at Manali. I did Ladakh with pillion and luggage on Xpulse, it stopped only once at Chang-La. Next time carry minimum luggage, and practice off-road, learn to use body position, clutch and rear brake when climbing.

Had faced similar issue in Baralach La Pass. But I was in Classic 500. Obviously a bike with Higher Torque at Lower Rev is preferable in such areas. But, since Oxygen is less in such high altitude, there is need of High Octane petrol, else any bike would struggle to produce enough power.

one more thing. since not all the oil that is passed to the engine burns due to lack of oxygen, the climate of engine also need to be adjusted. a quick way would be by slightly closing the petrol passing lock just below your engine. that way you could control the amount of petrol that goes to the engine. ofcourse , you will have less power than usual but its very handy trick to use if your engine fails to start at higher altitude.

Actually no. Lower octane numbered petrol would do well in high altitude. Higher the octane number difficult to burn it. The reason why super sport uses high octane number is that they have super high compression and want to avoid knocking.

The vehicle gets heated up, when offroading, give some time for it to cool manually. Thats not a big issue, experienced riders know to handle this.

Same happened with me on a brand new Himalayan in kasol, I was going up a hill for around an hour engine was reving but the bike wasn’t moving forward at a point, stopped for a minute and tried and it started working but I could feel a power lag for sometime.

@@ASHANKPANDEY cc matters but what I am saying here is that this thing happened bcuz of engine heating, if you are going up a steep hill and engine is revving in 1 and 2nd gear then it’s gonna heat no matter the cc and then this happens. So it’s not about cc or luck.

Just check your Budget.. Xpulse is between 1.7 to 2 lakh depends upon which model you choose. 350 classic goes near about 2.5 lakh. Xpulse is clearly an offroading bike. Purchased before 1 month. Completed 3000 km. But not having issues like this. 200 cc bike. Best for offroading starters..

This could be due to rarefied air \ oxygen going to engine. May be removing air filter for time being could solve problem temporarily. Using a better airfilter is another option. Fuel mix could also be another factor in the problem. Someone with better technical knowledge can shed light.

Hi, there are ecu available in aftermarket, like powertronics, and others. They have engine maps for different conditions. All you need is to select engine maps designed for higher altitudes and you should be able to drive better results from bike. I have heard you can customise maps too but you require laptop and engine tuning knowledge.

BS4 engines had low end power issue that was resolved with the BS6. So still xpulse remains to be a hero of extreme offroading, watch bulu patnaik for reference.
