Excellent work. I painted cars professionally for years, but have never welded or skinned a door on my own. Your videos are helping my do the lower rust repair on my '97 Z71. Beautiful, straight truck.

I stumbled on to your videos and found a wealth of information. I'm getting ready to take my 64 c10 stepbed apart for a full restoration. I feel more confident that I can do the restoration correctly after watching you and seeing how great your truck turned out. great job man.

Where did you find/purchase the lower inner structure of your door?
@mjj163196 жыл бұрын
Mr. Gibson, when you cut the outer door skin off, did the upper part bow in. Mine seems to have bowed in almost to the point of warping? Any ideas on if I did something wrong when cutting?
@Gibson63.6 жыл бұрын
Michael Johnson Mine did not bow in at all it pretty much kept the same shape now when you go to weld it back you’ll have to go slow on the welds and work the hammer and dolly
@mjj163196 жыл бұрын
Did you make one continuous cut or a little at a time? This was my grandfathers truck and I want to make it right. He has been gone for 28 years. I have watched all of your videos and they are AWESOME. P.S. I live in Jonesboro, AR. We are neighbors. LOL
@Gibson63.6 жыл бұрын
Michael Johnson I made One continuous cut with the cut off wheel so there wasn’t much heat to warp it just be careful with the grinder when you go after the welds

How do you fold those open edges over to the other side? A hammer seems like a bad idea

Real nice-What did you use for rust neutralizing?

I used a rust reformer from Eastwood to spray all inside the bottom and sides

After watching your videos I have been inspired to work on my 63 GMC Panel. I have started with the passenger side lower door skin. As I started clamping the seam together I noticed the new panel is bowed inward about 1/2". I welded it up and it is straight along the seam but still bowed in the center of the panel. I have also cut and fitted (not welded) the door bottom. Upon examining the door bottom it is bowed in the opposite direction. I have since bought some square stock with the intent of spot welding it on the inside of the door skin to straighten it out, but before I do that I was wondering if welding the bottom in place and seaming the edges would straighten it out. Did you encounter this issue? What do you recommend?
@Gibson63.7 жыл бұрын
William Haley I made sure both panels had the same arch before I started welding and went slow with the welds and really just kept looking down the panel and working the hammer and dolly
@MsPANELMAN7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I ended up welding some 1" square stock across the inside of the door. It flattened it out to some degree, and I'm pretty sure it wont interfere with the window. I'm still gonna need quite a bit of bondo to flatten it out and fix the divits from the spot welds on the square stock. When I do the drivers side I'll try and take the bow out of the new panel before I start welding. I gotta a lot of roof repair, windshield pillars, floor repair, rockers, and quarter panel work to do too. I probably shouda got a doner body. This is going to be a multi year project.
