Another great video Michael. Excellent choice with the wheel color. Car just keeps looking better with each video 👍

Yeah… I know I said I was considering this but if I do decide to go ahead with it, I think I’m going to pawn this off on a shop. Looks like more work than I care to do. I’m not confident around suspension components at all. Can’t wait to see it with the spacers.

When I did the lowering springs on the 996, I had a friend help me who had done that sort of thing before. Actually I guess I was the one helping. Then when the shocks were in need of replacement, I then felt confident to try that myself as the process is identical to just doing the springs. So really, this is my third time doing suspension work on a 911, and the second time doing it solo. The rears are boogers!

Yeah, I would maybe attempt it if I had someone nearby more experienced.

Hey Michael, you're going to need to replace both toe arms on the rear. The boot split on the ball joint for both sides from use of the pickle fork unfortunately! BTW... stick with the black floor mats, it helps break up the sea of beige. I did the same with mine as I have the Terracotta leather interior.
@motorsandmeats886 ай бұрын
Yeah I was afraid of that. Do you suppose a ball joint spreader would have prevented that?
@simonambrose826 ай бұрын
@@motorsandmeats88 I believe so. I will only use a pickle fork as a last resort. Either way I will always spray some WD40 on the ball joint boot first just to lube it up so a spreader slides in easily. We've all done it though so don't feel bad. Just think how easily it will come apart when you replace the arm.

Great video. Thanks for the shout-out!. The car looks great!. On the 4S on the front, you also have to disconnect the axle at the wheel or you might accidentally pop out CV Axle, ask me how I know lol. On the rear, disconnecting the upper control arms at the hub makes it much easier to remove the shock.
@motorsandmeats886 ай бұрын
Thanks! I saw another video on the subject, and the guy opted to skip disconnecting the upper control arm, so I thought I’d give that method a shot. Usually, whatever the step is that I’m trying to skip, I end up having to do anyway!

How was ride quality and handling after the lowering springs? Did it take corners better or was it too "jumpy"?
@motorsandmeats882 ай бұрын
Definitely firmed up everything. Adding 15mm spacers I think completed the package for corner handling. I had the car at Barber Motorsports Park a few weeks ago, and it felt amazing being pushed to the limit with that setup.
@Grendelsbane2 ай бұрын
@@motorsandmeats88 Do have any issues of bottoming out?
@motorsandmeats882 ай бұрын
@Grendelsbane as in fully compressing the suspension? No more so than before with stock set up. A non-issue I think. With the stock set up, while it does have farther to go to bottom out, the spring stiffness is less than with the lowering springs. I believe the same potential exists with stock or with lowering springs.

How much was it to get the wheels powder coated?
@motorsandmeats884 ай бұрын
I’ve heard a wide variety of prices for that service. I live in South Mississippi, so I assume the $500 I paid is on the low end of the spectrum.

Do you miss your 996? Is it worth selling 996 to buy a 997.2? I have a 996 so was just wondering if its worth the trade.
@motorsandmeats886 ай бұрын
Definitely I miss things about the 996! It’s an amazing car, and absolutely analog. This car is is faster, has launch control, and feels more refined though. Really, I want to experience every 911 variant I can before I die, and so far I’ve only had the two, so long way to go!
