I blame all of this on the EPA. Even in refrigeration we are having issues with all of this electronic stuff. Gone are the days of mechanical change outs. This is bad because we are boots on the ground and customers think we made and engineered the unit.

These communicating systems seem to be more trouble then they are worth. One little thing goes wrong and the entire system shuts down. Not to mention they are more prone to issues after a brownout/quick power interruption.

I like the S40 I've installed a couple so far it eliminated the smart hub that the S30 had which is one less component to go bad

Overcomplicated for a residential system, the manufactures produce all this fancy software and equipment to save no real energy. Costs the customers way too much money when it fails. Walter, do you have shielded stranded wire on your truck for these stats?

Just about the same thing with other "efficient" products these days. Very little benefit to the customer however, the way the EPA,DOE,CARB see's it, millions of tiny savings add up but the cost of doing so is worthless to the individuals.

Those thermostats are too expensive. An S30 cost about $900 in 2022. They are nice however, is all of that needed (weather station, WIFI, multiple settings) for operating an HVAC system? These higher end systems seem no different than new cars and trucks...when they go out, even the tech is burdened with tons of testing and research to get to the bottom of the repairs. Not to mention, replacement parts are expensive, very expensive plus the manufacturers do not supply them efficiently.

HVAC may become more tedious in the future (by design) from those who Climate Change enthusiast....just my humble opinion. What a nightmare for those who are elderly-disabled.

Mine is running fine, operating perfectly. Blame the installation process, and not the device. We got all new wiring installed. It took 6.5 hrs for install and they wouldn't leave until everything was running perfect, including my app working topnotch. It's incredibly quiet... and energy efficient, but much more powerful.

yeah, not really any energy savings with all this variable speed electronic stuff, any energy savings are going to be erased when a repair that would have cost $50 costs $500 because of all the "smart" electronics that need to be replaced and that's IF they can get the part

That outdoor unit is not a variable. That is a 2 stage unit. Note communicating systems are recommended shielded cable for communicating only using 2.5vdc the tech support it right I have found 9 volts bleed over. Also ground any unused conductors to legacy common.
@WWHVAC
@WWHVAC 9 ай бұрын
That's correct. It is a two stage compressor.

To be clear, the thermostat wasn't the issue, it was a bad conductor in the wire. A traditional thermostat using that wire would have intermittent issues as well. In regards to the communicating, some of these comments are saying they are more trouble then they are worth, which may be the case but at the moment, a traditional thermostat is not capable of running the full capability of a communicating furnace or AC. If you want the efficiency these offer, communicating thermostat is your best option.

For $700, it shouldn't need no damn wire. They could easily make it wired/wireless selectable . Cordless phones have been available since the late 70s. Wireless garage door remotes even longer than that

@@sherwinalvarez7365 thank you. After thinking a little longer, I should add that today, for $69, you can buy a wireless video baby monitor with 2 screens and no internet connection needed! You think video signals are enough communication capacity to handle a few temperature and voltage readings? 😉

Umm that’s an EL16. Not variable speed compressor. Variable speed compressors DO NOT use a single dual capacitor. The new construction contractor or residential contractor was just cheap or lazy. Probably already cut his LLC

Pure BS from stat manufacturers that do not allow fancy electronics thermostats to not work on existing wire. Not easy most times pulling new cable from a basement furnace to a first floor altar away stat.
