Hell yes. If you'll watch to the cinematics of LotV and on Scythe of Amon coop mission, you'll hear that the Matriarch commonly sends out DTs to different planets, scouting and gathering info. They're as much of an unsung hero as the common zealot.

This game was SICK, Zoun looks like a very stylish protoss player, he saw an opportunity and took it without hesitation. Loved it. The first DT play was rough but he managed to pull it off.

Totally agree with you Lowko, the dark templar change is controversial to say the least. They should rename the ability to "Shadow without Strike". Maybe there is a lot of terrans in that community expert group :D

Many people assume ghost to be the next target. As for the shadow stride change, according to other pro players, it's mostly because right now there's basically no counter-play to it. Even with widow mines, turrets and a siege tank in place, unless you start repairing the exact same moment the DTs blink, your planetary will go down. This way Terrans have a small window to react, but the harass isn't impossible either. I think it's a good change, but we'll have to see. Hopefully DT harass won't be killed entirely.

@@gabraeld Thanks you for the insight :) That is interesting information that even with widow mines it is not defendable, because in this game at 14:13 there was just one widow mine hitting the dts and it did pretty big damage, so with 2 or 3 widow mines it does not seem worth it to snipe the planetary anymore risking 10 DTs which is a lot of resources. I understand that we are watching the best terran in the world here. Even with siege tanks it is not defendable without instant repair? To be honest I blamed the terrans, not op DTs. They morf a planetary, otherwise have 0 defense there, no mines, no tanks, sometimes not even a turret for detection, and then they rage about 10 DTs sniping their base in an instant. 10 DTs is a huge investment. Yea they snipe the base very fast. But if they don't and toss just loses them killing nothing, the loss is huge comparing to single medivac filled with marauders that are also very capable fo sniping a base with no static defense pretty fast. So the risk is accordingly high. In my opinion if terrans started to burrow 3 widows mines at these outside bases, tosses would eventually stop doing the 10 dt snipe because it just becomes too risky. I wonder how fast a terran would be able to snipe a base with a drop of units worth 10 dts in resources. Like you said, we will see what the future brings, maybe it will be a good change. My worry here is that for the base snipe, terran basically got a 0,75s bigger window to spot the dts on the minimap, because the time from the alert that base is under attack to the base falling is exactly the same as before the change, but for other scenarios, DT may just feel unresponsive after the blink.

I watched this insane old sc2 game it was flash vs jaedong, and sc2 was really weird. To counter corruptor queen muta broodlord, flash used a terran air army which was bcs viking and banshee to win. It was really cool

I agree that the DT nerf feels bad. DTs being used more and more are nice to see, and it allows various skill plays with DT blink. It's also nice as an alternative to skytoss.

​@@warnaoh DTs at the highest level is extremely skill based. Blink surrounds and navigating around detection (esp. with blink) requires a lot of skill. They basically do what zealots do with a much higher cost and many more tricks to their kit, which after this nerf you will likely see Protoss rely more on zealot runbys instead, which aren't nearly as exciting. At lower levels, DTs are very much "you lose because you didn't scout/make detection," but at higher levels, it goes well beyond that.

@@joshuahitchins1897 Meh Late game the cost efficiency of 8-14dts is just too much. What you're saying applies mid game. I'd argue it's way harder for a Terran to defend 6+ bases vs dts than it is for the protoss to harrass with them. I mean at the end of the day I still think they allowed protoss to put fear in Terrans mid game which balanced the game so I'm not too sure if the nerf was a good idea. But no one will make me believe it's hard to use them late game for a pro gamer.

Khaydarin Amulet actually allows Templar to enter the game with 62 energy, and they require 75 for a Psistorm. (At least in Broodwar). Overall increases energy by 50 to 250

I know every Terran will hate me but I was very surprised not to see a ghost nerf in the balance patch announcement. I feel they counter just about everything and are a little too good. Of course I do not play at the level of these players so will bow to their exceptional skills and knowledge. Absolutely love the game and watching Lowko's casts is a joy. I have gone back to watch a lot of your older casts and have to say your casting has improved immensely Lowko.

I totally agree... something is unbalanced when a kamikaze baneling can NOT one shot an SCV but a ghost can one shot steady aim damn near every single unit in the game... ghosts really do need to be reined in a little bit... perhaps an increase to steady aim cost, less damage overall and even less damage while cloaked, and/or longer cast time on steady aim. Personally I think steady aim should take as long to cast as a Yamato Cannon shot takes to charge and fire... it is really sad when every other unit has a purpose to counter XYZ yet gets countered by ABC, but meanwhile ghosts counter everything except zerglings...

Maru is kind of inconsistent, that's why he really can't be GOAT. He's capable of the most god like plays, but then he also does very very questionable moves. Best to see it in GSL since that's offline so no ping issues, he sometimes loses to lower tier players.

The Dark Templar change is necessary: right now, the resources spent to kill a CC with Dark Templars, and the resources needed to do basically the same with Ghosts dropping nukes directly on target, is about the same, but the Dark Templars can do it faster, are more likely to succeed, are more likely to survive, and need an entire army to be stopped. It's just too much.

Disagree. DTs have low health overall and although they are powerful, they do ome thing: they attack while cloaked melee. The real OP unit that needs a nerf is the ghost unit. One could just as easily cloak 8 ghosts and have them snipe a hive in a couple shots. They also can launch a nuke, steady targeting, heal by vacs, EMP, etc etc. they are broken, but Terran is also the weakest race minus the ghost so a nerf to them and a buff to a couple mech units would be beneficial. Thinking Vikings could attack air and ground with a high tier tech research and make them more expensive and longer to build so they are not the next void ray

Another point that may make them valid is terrans inability to remax almost instantly with (Toss) warp gates or (Zerg) larvae. An equalizer late game unit perhaps? Zoun is incredible. Definitely in my top 6 or 7 players along with the 3 zergs we saw in the semis, maru, and Clem. Really the only Toss player who can feasibly win it all right now unless Astrea gets a lucky roll and doesn’t face any of the high end Zerg players like serral or Reynor until the finals. Actually… even then he’s screwed as he’d need 4 of seven and I don’t see him winning more than a couple with some early to mid game custom strategy. Zoun is for real. My favorite player right now

Ghost is an ability in League of Legends, not a champion. The most ghostly champion in League is Karthus. You wouldn't get Ghost on Karthus. The most Ghost-like champion depends on the flavor of Ghost you have in mind. Caitlyn is the snipey one, Twitch is the cloakey one, Zeri is the EMP-y one, and Ziggs is the nukey one. You might get Ghost on Zeri, but I can't imagine getting Ghost on the others.

Ghosts may need a nerf as well but DTs definitely need one too. Both units decide games too frequently.

DTs are a risk:reward unit, unlike ghosts. It's very plausible to fungal, EMP, or just plain use ground units to kill them extremely cost effectively as long as you have detection. Even in this game, you saw 9 DTs countered for the cost of a worker pull and about 100 minerals in repairs vs a Planetary. You have to hit a cloud of Mutas with a pair of widow mines to find that kind of efficiency anywhere else... Ghosts, on the other hand, are only bad if you build them and don't use them. EMP is never bad vs any P unit or structure, and snipe literally counters every single Zerg unit and composition except ling bane on creep (and even then, tank walls to block or critical liberators counter ling bane). Even mutas can't outrun it. Ironically enough, ghosts are only not great against Terran who don't build Ravens. But Terrans that build Ravens in a mirror simply win vs those.

Okay. Maybe I'm getting paranoid, but Zoun made two moves that left the impression that he could see more than he should. 1) the snipe of the medivac loaded with WM 2) 15:00 he runs in with zealots but turns around just before reaching the top of the ramp. And thus avoiding the WM burrowed there. He later tries again after those WM got moved away. Luck, Genius, or something fishy?

He definitely had a great run at Katowice, although I think he needs to maintain the impressive showing over the next few months to cement his position. He does feel like a step up from the rest of the Terran crowd coming out of IEM: the Koreans, Bunny, Byun, and Dream fighting with Clem for the pecking order under HeroMarine and Maru.

I personally hate Bo1's. It takes away the mystery that the game could end at any moment, like in Bo3 or Bo5. But when I see a 30-40 minute Bo1 I can't enjoy the early game because I know nothing is gonna happen and I just watch the last 2-3 minutes.
