@@jasontoneydesignz3068 I've always wanted to be able to paint a car on my own, albeit scaled down (I have a 58 Ford Fairlane) but, between lack of time and money, yeah, once I retire I'll reconsider it lol. I get the basic idea of laying down the paint, but seeing the depth you achieved is beyond epic level imho

@@MikeT-TheRetiredColonel you can do it. Just take your time and learn the basics. Once you learn the basics start with a small model car and work your way up from there. You’ll be glad you did it in the end. Good luck on getting the 58 Fairlane done.

How do you guys keep the chemical window open when working on a project for that long? I use Sikkens and the time from base to clear limits at “24 hours”. We paint RVs so it could be a huge 5 color job down the whole side and best answer we found was if you add hardener in the color you can extend the window to 72 hours.
@jasontoneydesignz30682 ай бұрын
The trick is using inter coat clear between the process of base and clear coat. Inter coat base you can sand without messing up the base. Some projects I will clear coat then sand the clear the next day. That will give you time to lay tape and other designs. Water base paint work the same way but with better adhesion. I also use 30 minute clear to lock in the foundation and sand that in a hour. Custom paint jobs like this require 16 hour days or longer for multiple days. If you are spraying an RV side use an inter coat clear or a clear base. You can’t sand the clear base with 600 or 800 to bring back the adhesion window. I used a red scotch scuff pad also in the video to help with adhesion between different layers of paint.

How much would this cost? Curious what the creator of the work would charge for this roof to be done?
@jasontoneydesignz3068 Жыл бұрын
I’m a retired painter now but in todays money it would cost a minimum of $8,000 to beyond. Materials alone would be $2500 in clear coat, candy paint, reducers, tape, time, paper, and shop labor. The original Idea i had for this car had to be reduced because of the shop the car was at. I had gold leaf planned and pinstripes but never got to do it because of budget and time restrictions. I now only build cars for myself and will be releasing videos of those projects soon.
@nelyh13952 жыл бұрын
Approximately how much does something like that cost …… this is sick 👏
@jasontoneydesignz30682 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 It’s all depends on where you go and who you know but $2,000 in paint (ruff estimate) and $2000-$75000 in labor. It all depends on conditions of the car , dent repair, and prep , plus shop labor. It takes years to decades for most to put it all together and that also has its price but is worth it in the end.
