Use rtv sealant in the bolt holes and on top of the bolts after you screw them in. Also, switch out the foam washers that come with the roof rack, for some 1/4" diameter rubber washers. You may want to swap all of the bolts that came with the rack to something stainless steel. You may want to change it to a Phillips style bolt as well. The main thing is to use a silicone sealant and to make sure the bolts and threads are covered.

just noticed a leak this morning after an entire day of rain....driver and passenger seat belts were soaked. I installed it 2 months ago and used silicone on all attached screws. I'm removing the entire roof rack and sealing it up with more silicone. a water test is needed to see if this is the problem. I can't think of anything else that would cause it!

OK, I must be dense and need a little help. The side rail that sits upon the base (which is bolted to truck) swings over to the other side and fits into the hole on the other side. But with the cheap OEM rack I bought what do the bolts mount to? I only have a have a long bolt but it doesn't attach to anything. Any ideas?
@joecenturion4 жыл бұрын
There's a bracket for each side that is attached to the roof using 4 pink bolts and 4 rubber washers. The rails fit on the brackets and have 6 long blue bolts and 6 rubber washers which attach to the roof. The 4 short blue bolts attach the rails to the brackets. The one long bolt attaches the swing arm crossbar on the passenger side. The driver side swing arm crossbar comes already attached to the rail so that's why there's only one long bolt.

I have seen other rack install videos, where people drill/cut through the weather stripping as to keep it on the truck. Would that be possible with this rack? Or do you remove the weather stripping permanently? TIA
@Eastsidegeorgiaboy Жыл бұрын
Doesn't look possible. A lot of it replaces the factory weatherstripping. I see no reason to use both. You end up ruining the factory weatherstripping if you drill through it. If you just take it off, you can re-use it.
@Eastsidegeorgiaboy Жыл бұрын
Btw, those people who were cutting the factory weatherstripping were installing a "Prinsu" style roof rack. One of the requirements of the Prinsu rack is that it reuses your oem weatherstripping, but it needs to be cut. With the oem roof rack, there is no cutting involved. Since it was made by Toyota, it was designed to take the place of the original weatherstripping so that you can reuse it if you ever decide to take off or sell your Toyota roof rack.
