Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District’s “Lincoln Park Gallery Without Walls” Alley Reclamation Mural was repaired in Spring 2024.
The Project was initially seeded in 2021 by Love Tito’s (Tito’s Vodka’s charitable giving division) and selected as part of the City of Newark’s Love Your Block Initiative.
This year, our community initiative “Repairing The Dream: Black Girls Dream by Kween Moore” made necessary repairs to the mural supported by LPCCD’s partner Keep America Beautiful Newark and community volunteers. The “Allery” is now preserved behind gate and the space is on its way to becoming a programmable outdoor “Arts Allery” space for both LPCCD, key partners that border the site and our community.
Our culminating event - DOWN IN THE RO’ hosted by Kween Moore - was supported by a 2023 Prudential Community Grant and was the first time that Down In the Ro’ Open Mic Experience - one of the city of Newark’s leading poetry and performance arts platforms founded by Mayor Ras J. Baraka - took place in “The Coast”. For the last 3 years, with the City of Newark as a partner, Femme Curator Arts designed an outlet for the community to be back together again, safely, requested by the people and our Honorable Mayor post-global pandemic.
The home of the “Lincoln Park Gallery Without Walls” sits behind the historic New Ark Cathedral Church (known as La Vid Verdadera en La Catedral New Ark, Lincoln Park) and the Dryden Mansion, which was the primary home of John F. Dryden, the founder of Prudential Insurance Company and United States Senator from New Jersey. Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District is reclaimed the alley and turned it into a usable space named after the community it will serve.
Lincoln Park Gallery Without Walls’ “Repairing The Dream: Black Girls Dream by Kween Moore” and presentation of DOWN IN THE RO’ hosted by Kween Moore was made possible with support from The State of New Jersey, Prudential Community Grant, Keep America Beautiful and with partnership from the City of Newark, Newark Arts and Education District, Integrity House, and Femme Curator Arts.
Thank you to Kween Moore and Femme Curator Arts and Kim J. Ford and Tonia L. Carter of BRND Marketing Group LLC, Official Lead Agency for LPCCD.
