The song is about mount Ararat. This is not a happy song. Mount Ararat is very symbolic of Armenian culture, and most Armenians have a picture of it on their walls. I think you really could feel the song, as you said, without even understanding the lyrics. Always love your reactions, and thank you for doing one for us. ❤ BYW, you will love Armenia if you visit one day.

Fun fact: Ararat 🏔️ is the Biblical Mountain where Noah’s arc descended; hence, we, Armenians, always joke about how the humanity’s revival began in Armenia. 😉😊 So, it should be a sacred mountain for all humanity. 😄

This is a cover Ladaniva made of an original song by the amazing group called Armenian Navy Band made up of a dozen or more musicians and fronted by the multi-talented jazz multi-instrumentalist and singer Arto Tunçboyacıyan. The song was released by Armenian Navy Band 15 years ago with immense success.

@@LocalBandSmokeout It's also important to note that the mount looks its best from the side of Armenia, (from East looking West), which is why it is mentioned in the song a couple of times. It is truly striking to see Ararat on a clear day hovering above Armenia's capital Yerevan. The city is located right below it in the Araratian valley. Ararat like mount Fuji is a dormant volcano, and is to Armenians what the latter is to Japanese.

Mount Ararat (where Noah’s ark landed) shows up in the background. It’s considered a sacred mountain for each Armenian. It’s a very sad song for each Armenian because it reminds us the history of Armenians slaughtered and pushed out of our native lands by Ottoman Turkey in 1915, during which time Mountain Ararat (nowadays Eastern Turkey) was part of Armenian land… she visits Armenia and drives close to the border with Turkey to shoot this clip.

Mount Ararat was transferred to Turkey by the Treaty of Kars, which was signed on October 13, 1921 between the government of the Turkish National Assembly and the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. According to the treaty, almost the entire Kars region and Surmalu province (which had never been part of Turkey) including Mount Ararat and its adjacent regions were transferred to Turkey, and Nakhidjevan region, which was defined as an autonomous entity, was transferred to Azerbaijan. As a result, Soviet Armenia lost almost half of its territory. It is a fact that the Russian government just gave you those territories. The greatest enemy of Armenia was Russia, whom we have always trusted and lost!
