It needs something that's for sure. Those Corvette rear ends are independent so there is no right to left driveshaft torque induced weight transfer to compensate for. It could be that the corner weights are off, with the right rear and left front handling more of the weight than right front and left rear, but the problem could be a bunch of other things too. With that particular rear independent suspension design there are essentially upper and lower ball joints and a fixed length tie rod at the rear. The rear alignment needs to be set right plus these suspensions often flex and introduce rear steering under hard acceleration. Some guys even replace the bushings with solid aluminum pieces, while others figure out what is flexing and either beef it up or tweak the alignment to compensate (so it is aligned best while under hard acceleration). Set up right these can run perfectly straight all the way down the track, even when at the limit of traction or beyond. Leroy is all over the place but I don't think Cleetus and crew are really seeing this for some reason. Ruby on the other hand goes straight as an arrow.

I'd say Ruby has backpressure issues. That is why it struggles so much to build boost on the 2-step. Yes it has a GIANT turbo. But the piping is comparatively small. It is a restriction. That causes a good amount of the exhaust energy to be lost in the restrictiveness of the header piping instead of being converted into boost in the turbo. *I'd say they have to put on better exhaust piping.* -smooth bends in the headers, -smooth bends INTO the turbo -smooth bend to the waste gate -they have to smooth the diameter changes. Right now 1/2 of the exhaust goes into what is effectively a log in the turbo side cylinder bank. That makes a LOT of back pressure. That cylinder bank additionally goes through a quite sharp 90° turn which makes even more back pressure. The other cylinder bank goes into a rather restrictive (stock) header and then into a not smooth diameter change. That causes turbulence and back pressure. The rest of the line up to the turbo from that side is mostly fine. The way the waste gate is put on is also problematic. It creates back pressure too. They 90° T-sectioned it on instead of using a bend or putting the pipe to it at 45° to 60°. T-Section piping has a flow resistance value of ~8.5 kVs. That goes for flow that leaves into the 90°-section AND for the flow that goes on. 60° piping is ~5 kVs, 45° has ~2 kVs. Taking a bend section to connect the waste gate is a flow restriction of ~0.5 kVs for straight flow and ~1 kVS for the flow down the bend to the waste gate.

Okay for people not familiar with how turbos work. it's based off of how much exhaust you can flow thru the turbine side of things *aka the exhaust wheel* You need the properly sized pipe and the correctly sized turbine housing, to big as in ruby's case and the exhaust takes forever to get moving and make it spool. To small and it's instant boost and no top end. For those of you that followed the buildup and racing on the previous turbo know that was to small and made a restriction that forced the upgrade. Ruby has a 5.3 guys and a 1500 hp turbo, It's not exactly a match made in Cleveland. He has 2 options 1 make the engine make more exhaust either via larger motor or rpm, he can't use rpm because of the slushbox, and a 5.3 is only so big. Or a smaller turbine housing. *edit* Or he can sniff it a little nitrous say 50-75hp worth and move more exhaust volume to make boost faster. I think a looser convertor or a bigger motor is in ruby's near future.

I crewed tail numbers 6031 and 5029 at Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC and Travis AFB, CA. That tail flash is Travis AFB. Chances are good I may have worked on and flown with that one back in the day. Nice to see it flying into Nellis AFB. My dad was stationed at Nellis from 1969-1973. Vegas has changed a lot since I was a kid. Good luck with Ruby and LeeRoy! Little trivia, the Extender can carry 75 troops, 160,000 lbs of cargo in up to 27 pallet positions, a total of 356,000 lbs (50,000+ gal) of fuel, and it's three engines have a combined rating of over 156,000 lbs of thrust for an aircraft that weighs 240,000 lbs empty or 590,000 maximum. Oh yeah, it can also carry deuce and quarters on the palletized cargo deck.

Guys, the issues with Ruby is the new turbo. Before it was doing fine on the launch and the 60 ft times, it was just slightly suffocated on the big end. I'd suggest tossing a smaller turbo, maybe an 80 to 82mm, should help with the launch and the big end.

I found this channel like 2 months ago. Now im checking every single day for a new video and have checked out alot of the backlog. I find myself saying twin turbskies way way too much even though my native language ain't english :D. This channel also led me to fasterproms wich i also love but man...Ruby. From the first day you got her i have been hooked to that car. All the changes/failures and improvements are so great to watch. Leroy is also in a class of his own for sure. For the turbo why don't they turn up the boost at rev to around maybe 20 or higher. I dont know but something higher then 16. They said a bigger turbo is gonna create a higher spooling time so I guess spooling it higher at rev will create some more boost throughout the run and create a better bottom end. I don't know how to tune but maybe that would create better results for Leroy since he has a bigger turbo.

Rick Shaw if they went with that setup they might be better off with a turbo that is slightly smaller than the original. The small guy should be sized for full spool right around the launch RPMs. It doesn’t need to make a lot of boost, just enough to make “compound boost” for the bigger one. Think more boost makes more exhaust, which makes more boost, and more exhaust, etc…

Hereinmissoula it has a hard time getting up on the 2step a bigger hot housing would most likely make that worse. A set of twins like Leroy would fix both issues.

@@jasontruman1215 not true, just because a t6 is larger doesn't mean it can't get on 2 step. It will flow more efficiently. And they might have too tight of a converter as well. I have seen many sbe 5.3's spool s475's, s480's, 7582's and much larger and not have problems

You guys should come race here in Alaska! The low temps plus low altitude at Alaska Raceway Park (~25 ft above sea level) really makes the cars produce the horsepower, also the track is literally surrounded by 7000 ft mountains so it doesn't get much more majestic!

I really like the helmet cam view. I can watch the shift, the tach, the track wall, everything. I can now appreciate how much is going on! I'm surprised you don't include the helmet cam view more often. Maybe it's a vibration problem or something. But combined with Cooper's starting line view it gives us armchair watchers a real sense of what just happened.

Most tracks with a uphill shutoff that is easily seen look like that. The NHRA has requirements for tracks at a national Event level, I can speak for Seattle it does the same thing and is table flat over the strip itself. Except for the bump in the left lane. Come on guys i raced there 12 years ago and it was there.

I'd said in the first video of the new turbo they should just take a die grinder and cut out that whole twin scroll divider since it's not doing anything with the manifold setup.

Let me say this that's a small motor under a big turbo and this car has already had 1 turbo upgrade.. I think Mcfarrrrrlaannndddd fabrication needs to run bigger pipe or run twins, twins in a car like this is almost always better. One way to get rid of the bog is nitrous. a 50 shot at the hit would solve a lot of problems they are having.
