The fabrication is practically finished and the engine has to come out one more time to install my Circle D 3200 stall torque converter. I also install the transmission cooler lines and talk about my wiring harness modifications that will take place in the next video.

Hey paul did you end up using the stock bmw shifter to control the 4l80? I just got mine back from the builder but i havent had the time to put it in. Does the stock shifter have enough range to move through PRNDL on the 4l80?

Pete. Yes and no. I did use the stock shifter and I get ranges R N and D correctly. But there is not enough throw to get the park pawl to engage in park. So I have to use the parking brake. I’ve been checking the junkyards for early e39s that had the PRND321 shifter and there hasn’t been any popping up lately.

Did you integrate the 16 pin connector to your harness? i have a wagon as well my main concern is the air bags in the rear as you know the ride height is adjusted through the ecu so im wondering how that would work

Are you referring to the diagnostic adapter connector? Not sure what year yours is, but mine is an 02 and I also don’t have air suspension. I kept all of the factory stuff that’s still there as far as connectors go. The only things changed were the engine and transmission modules and harnesses. I did integrate the bmw connectors to my LS harness where the two harnesses meet for things like starter, ignition power, gauges, a/c, etc so they just plug in like factory.

If you’re talking about the obd2 connector under the dash, I just ran the wiring for a second obd2 port that I mounted near the original.

I was referring to the one underneath the hood and i have a a wagon and it has air suspension in the rear but can only be activated by the dme when you connect the 16 pin connector underneath the hood and you can adjust it so I was seeing if I can still do that or ultimately having to convert to struts in the rear

Are you 100% sure the DME has anything to do with the air suspension. The air suspension module is in the spare tire well in the back. They are all tied together through the can bus network. The connector under the hood is just how the scan tool interfaces with the network. BMW did away with that connector in 01 I think. You should be able to keep that connector but you might have to disassemble the engine harness to get it separated. Im not sure if it’s part of the engine harness or body harness since mind didn’t have it.

@@PetesGarageandperformance i didn’t realize the can bus and that were two separate things I thought without the original ecu i wouldnt be able to adjust the height so that makes it a little easier for me and its connected to the body
