Well the 2 door conversion has been finished for a few days so I decided it was time to rip the drive line out of the car. All the motor parts went together quick and easy so I decided to push forward and yank out the old small block. After a little cleaning in the garage the new LS will go between the rails. This is the easy part..... it's all down hill from here.

Just a tip, I always ziptie or hose clamp 2 rubber gloves over the end of the transmission when I remove the drive shaft. It saves the having to clean it up, and if your putting it back in you don't have to replace the trans fluid. That said Keep up the good work!

I'm old enough to remember when cars of the 30's and 40's were considered valuable. My neighbor 8 houses down in 1965 offered me a whole red & white '57 chevy convertible (with 80,000 on the clock) and a fair top free because he pulled out the 283 Cu. and wanted to put it in a chevy II. I didn't want it because I didn't have a motor for it and anyway for $75 bucks I bought a whole 1957 Ford skyliner hard top convertible with a running engine! (6 cylinders back then were considered "old man" engines and noOne wanted them).

Well Dan, You more balls than brains working in a space only big enough for a honey badger to dig in but you got it done and I am proud of you for seeing the progress. I'm thinking since its your money I am offering to spend, maybe a wiring disconnect for the harness that goes across the front so it kinda hooks up like trailer wires or something you can plug or unplug and get that stuff out of the way when removing stuff.. just saying cause after its over, you can just unplug athen pull stuff out ... quick change.. something like that. I like the shout out that mrhevyshevy gave you as he sounds impressed with your work. I sent him that condensed link like three times so he would be sure to get it case he just looked at the mailbag here and there. Answering all these is a full time job on the comments as you well know by now. Wish I was there doing grunt work as there is shit to mop like fluids that get away and antifreeze that comes out after you drain five times, it pours more out stuff, you got the picture. Great videos so keep on keeping on.... Morgan

I noticed that you have a drive by wire intake. There are a couple of approaches to this, #1 go get the electronic gas pedal out of the vehicle that the engine came from along with the TAC module or # 2 remove the throttle body and replace it with a cable driven throttle body. Look for a PCM that has service number 12200411, this box can be used with drive by wire, or drive by cable, just tell the person that tunes your box what you have so he can turn on whatever setup you use. He can also delete things such as EGR, AIR, Purge, A/C, cats, rear O2 sensors, non electronic trans, and VATS. PCM of North Carolina did my PCM flash, really good people, they have a quick turn around. I got the HOT Rod startup done to my box done. Fill out the form on their web site, drop the PCM in a box with contact info, and they will fix you up.

I’ve never installed an LS in anything it wasn’t designed to be in already so I’m no help. I would’ve just stuffed a mild BBC in that car cause I’m sorta old school. You should look into a small radiant gas heater for your shop. They aren’t crazy expensive aside from running gas lines to the garage. I looked into it not long ago. Not sure what that’d do to your house insurance rates tho. I want to put a wood stove in my shop but that’s not allowed here unless I want to tear up my insurance policy. Good luck with the swap man.

Make sure you remove the spacer at the back of the crank if you're not running a 4L80 or something with the same depth. The first time i did a 6.0 swap in 2008, i didn't know you had to remove that to go on a 4L60e and jammed the converter into the pump, which basically wrecked the whole trans. EDIT: Disregard. I forgot the LQ9 came with a 4L65e and doesn't have the spacer... but for future reference if you get an LQ4.....

Love the build! Being from Wisconsin, we never drive our old cars in the salt. Aren't you worried about driving the Nova in the salt and letting it sit all winter or is there no salt on the roads up there?

You make it look easy by just being a one man band Dan. The progress is great! At the rate you're going you'll be doing snow burnouts before Xmas! Haha Next summer you have to dig out the Cobra so us Ford Freaks can drool. 😆 Danni's gonna have a wicked car when said and done. 👍 Keep warm my friend..the 40 below shit is coming our way. Cheers from Saskatchewan

Hey! That engine is VERY close to the driver's door. Ya don't want to scuff up the paint job now after all the work you put into it..Just saying..Cannot wait to hear the new engine fire up! I never realized how much electronics are used with today's cars....

Did you have to weld lower motor mounts to frame to put the ls engine in.If memory is correct the original 57 v8 had a mount on the front of the engine.

Hey great video, I have a 57 2dr post with a 265V8 and a 2 sp power glide trans. I'm getting ready to pull the old motor out. I have been tossing around the idea of putting in a LS. I was curious to get your input or recommendations on what would be the best options, I'm trying to go on a budget too. But the only thing kind of scaring me away me from doing the LS is what seems like all the extra wiring and computer and poss reprogramming the PCM to make it work that needs to go with it. Is it just as easy as tucking the PCM in some where and just getting power to the LS? or what might the kinks be I might run into along the way I guess is what I'm asking. thanks

-39C with the windchill overnight just sucks, but you have found the proper way to battle that madness. Curious as to what your plans are for the gauges in the 57? Will the stock cluster work?

Spills: try a product called, "Pig Mat" Wiping up: Kimtech Prep (blue, disposable) and Wypall X60 (reusable to a given degree, more than once but not endless) Not a sales guy but these are pretty well known to work. Don't know if there is a local supplier in Wpg. but all are on amazon canada (not cheap esp compared to something like kitty litter)

@@DDSpeedShop I had an acquaintance in South Africa who acquired a a Cobra kit car without a motor. Since he was a Jaguar enthusiast who had experience with hot-rodding the Jaguar V12 engine, that's what he ended up putting into that car. He thought this was the only Cobra kit car with a Jaguar V12 engine but if you search on google for "cobra kit car with Jaguar V12" it seems it is a somewhat common combination. What engine and transmission combo is in your cobra?

Looks like your oil.pan gasket was separated into two pieces, the small piece with the round holes should be attached to the outer part of the gasket. That is where the oil pump feeds the oil to the engine and they are very bad for leaking there, I would suggest getting a new gasket to be safe.
