@c4b0ombazzist903 жыл бұрын
This is very common, may even require cylinder head repair of the top intake chain guide bolt or head replace. There is also an upgraded access port plug that replaces the timing guide bolt. Bolt lossens itself and makes the threaded whole out of round and messes the threads up, causes loose chain and jumping of time.

@@ls1camaro92 quick question. I took off the top cover on my engine to expose the timing chain. I noticed that the chain marks were not aligned to the marks on the sprockets. Is this normal? Or was it not installed correctly? I had a guy change out my water pump and now I have a noise. He claims that one of my chain guides could be damaged which is causing a whining noise in my car when it's running. Any help u can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
@ls1camaro926 жыл бұрын
Wilson Aguirre Gomez well as long as the main sprockets face the correct direction with the marks, you should be fine. It will require multiple revolutions of the crankshaft turned until the chain realigns with the sprocket marks. And as for the water pump, if the water pump wasn’t installed correctly then very possible it can cause noises. But these guides can also become brittle and require changing. Usually the chain requires changed after 115k or if it starts making noises.

Is it common for a bolt on the timing chain cover to be placed where it cannot be removed without dismounting the engine? I am considering replacing my own gaskets and timing chain. If I have to dismount the engine I will pass since I do not have all the proper mechanical equipment. Will I run into the same placement on my 2008 2.4L ? Thanks, and great video!

Great video. I have a 2008 Saturn Vue with the 2.4 LE5. It has 86k miles and out of nowhere I get an engine overheating dash light. I pull over immediately and turn it off. Pop the hood, and theres no coolant in the reservoir. Shit...Check oil fill cap and theres yellow gunk on it. I see water droplets and oil pooled on the cam shaft. I drained the oil, it looks like caramel but it definitely wasn't overfilled an extra 9 quarts of coolant, but definite coolant in the crank case. I pull the plugs and do a compression test, all cylinders even at 70-75 psi with 10 revolutions of starter. It drove great, and im sure it still will, but I don't want to make anything worse. Have any idea what could have happened?

If I may ask, what was the cost of this job? I'm in need of this and I feel like the shops here are horrifically over charging.
@ls1camaro925 жыл бұрын
sw204me Shop over charge period unless you find a good side mechanic! In which is what I do. So you can google average shop charges on this job and find a better answer. So I research prices as well, divide labor by 2 and that’s what I charge. Round down sometimes lol. But you can always call around to different shops and or go to a parts store and ask if they know any side mechanics to do that job too.
@sw204me5 жыл бұрын
@@ls1camaro92 I'm actually doing it myself, I was just curious what you charged. One shop wants $2200 if they supply the parts, or $726 for just labor and I provide parts. Amazon has a complete kit with both chain sets and the cover gasket for $206, I would still need a valve cover gasket so that would be $1k. Another guy said would do it for $1k, and another said under $500.

The one negative thing that I see is, you driving those inverted E12 bolts in from start to finish with your drill,,,Personally, I always start every bolt by hand to avoid stripping out the threads of their hole. I'm doing a 07 Pontiac G5 2.2 vin-F, Aftergetting everything together, I noticed that my exhaust cam was at about the 11 o-clock position instead of the 10 & 2 position as required on the 2.2 eco-tec. 21 degree high tomorrow-Fun fun!!! NO GARAGE!!! CAN'T FEEL WHT I am doing with gloves & touching metal in cold weather gets to ya real fast!!! I'm hoping that by removing that chain & everything, that it goes back together okay but, I already torqued the cam bolts! That worries me!!!!!! I forgot to straighten the crank & I hope it will be okay to just unbokt everything & redo it this ti.e with the crank at the 12 o-clock position rather then 9-11ish area. Learned what size & type of bolts those inverted E12's are so, I learned something in the process!!! You did a good job & made a good video! THANKS!
