oh my god richard! Thank you for taking the time,and EFFORT to educate us!! I've dynoed plenty of stack injection engines, for sprint cars, etc. and the length of the inlet tubes is critical to the power curve, short ones, like you tested will lose bottom end power, but gain top end power, while a longer tube will do the opposite, also the bell on top of the tube is very important, with no bell it kills a ton of power all around.. crazy stuff for sure !
@deanstevenson65274 жыл бұрын
kwik440 : Way to Go RH at WTP. Yeah, stack length and 50 thou cam intensity works at odds, ITB Weber guys have reduced cam intensity and lobe center to maintain torque. One size fits all is the only way to compare. Mazdas 787B used variable runner length/telescopic tubes at Lemans, and you see a few guys making them work in racers. Ultimately, Italian Maserati and Aston Martin V8 Vantage style ITBs with proper air boxes and filters always work. It the time of fabrication and a lack of proper concept that inceases the cost of ITBs. See this telescopic IR trumpet system, typical of what some guys have been doing for years kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH65mqJ5Z716hZI

What people fail to realize is the cost difference between the 'factory' LS3 intake and the edelbrock/down draft intakes. The Trail Blazer SS is just under the performance of the LS3 intake at a slightly lower cost as well (something that you covered in another video). What would be interesting is to compare performance gains per dollar (if all else is equal). Although this would take lots of research, time, and testing.

Ya, no back drop is good, less call out words on screen better. It's great to have a talk dyno results on the speed parts, and like you said just because something picks up peak HP on a dyno doesn't mean that once it's in a car it's going to work the same, like putting air filters on the stack intake. Ask fining an how much power they usually kill. Great work on improving the videos, keep them coming.
@azcamaro602 Жыл бұрын
You think it lost intake velocity with the ITBs? Sure those fancy manifolds made some more power but that long torque curve with a bit of a flat line for a decent 1000rpm i think is definitely the race changer.
@ivorysoap3 жыл бұрын
I feel like the cross ram and ITB setups need custom tuning to get their potential. Otherwise, they're being run by an engine control unit that thinks a stock LS3 intake is in place and isn't tuned for all the extra air these two intakes are able to flow. Just my two cents.

Hey Richard, are we going to see some BBF stuff in the near future? Just picked up a '97 EFI 460 for my nephew's 1980 notch Fox stock suspension H-pattern drag car; going to get at least an intake for it, preferably something that will work with the stock harness so we can run it via Holly's new Terminator X plug n' play factory replacement ECU, but we'll likely throw a set of heads and cam/valvetrain on it while we're at it. The plans include a big single hair dryer sooner than later(yea, a turbo big block stick car on radials - we are indeed gluttons for punishment/plain ol' fools... but who doesn't like a challenge?), I suspect that we can get a decent lifespan out of the stock bottom end at ~700HP, especially with modern EFI to help keep the AFR in check/(hopefully)prevent nuclear meltdown. I would certainly LOVE to see some stock block BBF stuff though; or ANY BBF stuff for that matter(never know when you may end up being the owner of an aftermarket block...)! Loving the content so far, EXACTLY what I'm into! It's rare that you even get to see higher end, less common intakes like these actually compared to other intakes, let alone the other competitors of this market niche, it's nice to be able to SEE whether or not the 'bling' will actually pay off, much appreciated insight!

@averageamerican44786 ай бұрын
The one thing about the edelbrock that bothers me is the drastic change in size from a single throttle body to two, maybe the engine needs that much air flow to breathe, but has anyone tried or manufactured smaller throttle bodies, I feel like their would be a loss in air velocity. In your opinion, do you think the engine is maximizing efficiency with the 2 stock throttle bodies? I was thinking about trying to ask a machining buddy to make an adapter that would be like a convergence adapter, maybe cut the inlet size to 60-70 per instead of 92 per throttle body. Or is it that the factory is just not putting a large enough throttle body on at the factory? My dad used to build race car engines in the 60-70s, and now he teaches students about jet engines and prop plane engines, we were discussing convergence and divergence, because I saw an article that dyno a set of heads that had smaller valves that pulled more power than a set that had large valves, in their case the smaller valves won out, to me that would mean the engine must have needed more velocity and less pressure, I am wondering if this manifold could benefit from the same? Sorry long question, I just love paper drag racing and living in the theoretical.
@richardholdener17276 ай бұрын
Larger throttle bodies have no negative effect. A smaller throttle body does not increase velocity into the runner or combustion chamber. It only restricts flow if it is too small. If it is too large-not happens except over sensitive tip in
@eformance4 жыл бұрын
So what you're really saying is that the LS3 manifold is the best overall manifold for this combo. I certainly wouldn't give up all that power under the curve for looks. The Edelbrock manifold didn't provide enough difference to warrant the cost IMHO.

Great video Richard! I love how computer control has vastly improved engine performance. In my day, for street applications, one had to be careful not to over cam, carb, intake, headers, heads.....Speaking of intakes, have you run a dual plane/180deg FI intake? I'll assume, since stock intakes seem to use a single plane design, that there is little to no advantage of separating intake pulses. What say you.
