It is quite common on vehicles with double wishbone suspension, that bushings go very fast. They bear a lot of load and are key to making that design handle well and ride comfortably. especially more so with a split upper control arms as used in this Lexus and many German designs. Also the components seem to be cast or forged aluminum, so they're strong enough that you can just tap your arms out of the sockets with a hammer which... Makes the job less stressful.
@ruthnoya8424

I agree, nothing rides or handles as nice as a double wishbone setup. I've heard the rx-8 has the best suspension (long travel double wishbone) on any car under $80,000 in the last 20 years. I wish there was an easy k-swap kit for the rx8.

I know it doesn't matter anymore - however, for anyone reading this, you can save yourself a whole bunch of trouble and just get the entire front suspension "kit" with everything you need for $350.00. No bushing pressing, no muss no fuss. It should also embarrass the stealership that they charge $4K for the job. If your non-stealership mechanic charges $100/hr for 8 hours (no idea how long it would take a pro - I'm guessing 4 hours), then you're looking at $750-1150 all in. Here's what I found: smile.amazon.com/dp/B07S2FFH5G/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Lexus%7C75&Model=LS460%7C5862&Year=2012%7C2012&ie=UTF8&vehicleId=4&vehicleType=automotive btw, my LS is a 2012 with 138K miles and I don't have this problem. It was apparently fixed with the 2010 model year and up.

Man, that's way too much for me to take on. I just got my '12 LS460 last Sunday, and of course it needed something, like any used car. The front rotors were seized, and it took 2 hours to get the 1st one off. Mallets and hammers don't work. I'm not sure if the WD-40 even made a difference, but I eventually grew a brain and remembered I had a crowbar I had purchased to replace front LCA bushings on my IS250. That did the trick. But these LCAs on this car? No way I can do all that. I'm sure to screw up something. Any chance you're near GA, and could do this on the side?

OMG I had an '07 LS460 and it is probably the worst one to get. Those fkn bushes were the bane of my existence and Lexus would only change the entire control arm instead of replacing the bushes. Here in South Africa is very hard to find alternative parts or parts suppliers so you HAVE to go to Lexus. I couldn't deal with that anymore and I got rid of it. Advice for anyone, if you want this body shape, get the latest year model you can find or get the facelift model instead but do not get an '07! Trust me! @@nellatl Well there are no TSBs or recalls for any of the years regarding premature bushing failure. That said, almost all of the bushing problems on the LS occur in the 07-09 genre that you'll find on clublexus. Virtually every LS that has had those issues had less than 125K miles judging from the sample on clublexus and other boards. It would appear that Toyota changed suppliers for the bushings at some point - likely 2010. But a simple lookup on the boards shows that everything I said is corroborated as does this video - and since I own an LS, probably a more authoritative opinion too.

To me it all seems like a bad design from Lexus. The amount of stress being put into those bushes for the amount of rubber between the outer radius of the center tube and the inner radius of the outer sleeve, considering the rubber is vulcanized bonded between the two parts. The arm is going up and down with suspension movement and at the same time doing movements at 90 degrees to the suspension with the steering movement. Its a wonder they don't fail after about an hour of driving. I suppose its designed that way so it seems like the tire is turning on a vertical line running through the center of the tire so you can have a nice circular wheel arch so the side on view of the car looks nice. Where as a proper solid wishbone design seems like the tire turning pivot would be away from the tire , so the wheel arch is more oval to accommodate the arc movement of the tire steering movement and not so nice looking on the side view of the car like is older brother Lexus LS 430 .
