I feel like one of the scarier things in the Violence District is one encounter of a woman standing next to the street. She's just there alone under a street lamp, minding her own business. She seems like the only living person in the place so you go up to her, seemingly a light in the darkness. Then its revealed to be a ruse, the woman's head just popping off as she speedily approaches. This, whatever it is, then catches you, ending your dream and putting it into the lower downers as if your character woke up from a horrible nightmare.

Wow talk about a blast from the past. Back in 2009, I stumbled across a small channel called Mikennemonic and his play through got me into the lore. I always wanted to give LSD a try but I could never figure out how to run Japanese ROMs. Now that there's a tutorial, I might give it another go for nostalgia.

@@Zabrixis1919 Sure, anything can be addictive. But psychedelics in general do not cause physical addiction. As a matter of fact, they ironically help people get off of addictions which is a pro. A con would be the potential intensity of an experience, a reason why people choose to micro-dose and why you wouldn't be actively seeking it out like you would with nicotine or alcohol. You simply don't get such compulsions to trip again like you would to drink or smoke again. That's silly.

I've actually been typing out my dreams lately in a word document as soon as I wake up from one. Reading some of them back can be an extremely weird experience, especially if it's a dream I've progressively forgotten over the span of the day.

I sometimes write down my dreams. Though, it's not consistent. I probably should start writing when I wake up.
@J.DeLaPoer
@J.DeLaPoer 2 жыл бұрын
I've been logging my own dreams for some like two decades now, filling several books. The more I did it, the more vivid and memorable most of my dreams became; and the better I remembered them. It's an essential part of training your mind. In my case, it's got to the point for some years now that I repeatedly have not just recurring dreams... Now it's like I visit a couple of persistent worlds in my dreams, which are persistent the way an intricate RPG game has it's own autonomous world with AI going about daily business. There's characters I 'meet' regularly on my 'visits', I have a home, I do things and pick up conversations from where I've left off; and it's all _so_ real that engages pretty much all my senses to the point of being literally indistinguishable from reality. Not just during these dreams (which are lucid, sort of) but in my memory too after waking, they're as vivid and regular as any memory from reality; with nothing I could look back on that's odd or impossible etc that would prove the events were a dream. It's now to the point where the only clue-ins that X event or conversation isn't or didn't happen in reality is the fact that they start and end with me in bed. It is seriously like visiting another closely-related dimension, just in my sleep. These dream 'worlds' are so real that when I'm in them; it's like I'm lucid and aware my body is asleep elsewhere, but my powers of lucidity end there (I can't fly, or make anything else odd happen). It's literally like my self/soul/consciousness somehow entered a close parallel world (like in String theory), very similar to our world and obeying the same laws of physics etc. As noted these worlds are persistent with familiar people and places in them; but they're not static either, there are slow changes here and there, people age, things happen over time. There's also no "weird dream stuff"; the continuity of time and place are always maintained: Usually in dreams there's always random changes of place, people/things appearing/disappearing, jumps in time, everything constantly changing and breaking laws of physics and logic constantly. None of that happens in these experiences; the difference between them and 'normal' dreams is day/night, both during and in memory after. It's as big as the difference between waking and dreaming period, for most people. I can't read or tell time in normal dreams. In these experiences, I can do either easily. Normal dreams might be realistic sometimes, but they don't engage my senses. In these experiences, I hear, smell, taste, physically feel everything... I cannot emphasize enough that they are completely indistinguishable from waking reality, and how different they are from even realistic 'normal' dreams both during and in memory after waking. And I still have 'normal' dreams too sometimes; I'd say the ratio about 40/60. If any of this makes sense at all, and I don't just sound like a nutcase. It's hard to explain. Point is, it was the journalling that led to (most of) my dreaming becoming more and more real and lucid, and memories of them more and more clear and complete. Also regardless of what/how you dream, writing them all down is invaluable as a sort of window into the subconscious.* *I'm a big skeptic and not into mystical anything, and consider myself rational. But given the seriously literally perfect realism/clarity/persistence of these dream experiences of mine vs. my "normal" random dreams.... I am half convinced that for the former, I am indeed doing some form of soul travel or astral projection or whatever you want to call it into other parallel worlds or dimensions while I sleep. We can't even define consciousness after all; nor how it relates the concept of the self/soul, and have no idea whether it's generated by the brain, or whether the brain is just a conduit for it. String theory et al. say there's likely infinite parallel worlds out there (and we can barely define reality let alone its boundaries either). I find it perfectly plausible that one's soul or self can leave the body and enter such other worlds. These sleep experiences are just too real, too intricate and persistent over too many years, and too perfectly logical, and with nothing impossible or nonsensical in my memory to 'give them away' as having been a dream; whereas all normal dreams no matter how real they seem during, will always upon waking examination be revealed as impossible, illogical, random weirdness. As I said, the difference between these experiences and normal style of dreams, even the vivid ones, is night/day. Were it not for the fact that they start and end with me in my bed at home, they'd be indistinguishable from reality. It's like... I have a couple other entire lives that I've been living in my sleep the last couple decades; complete with complex relationships. Or maybe I'm just nuts lol.

Agreed. Since I first saw gameplay of it a couple years ago, I initially thought it was one of those games made to look like a PS1 title but had released recently rather than one that actually came out for the PS1 in the 90s. It's concept feels so modern, especially with it's similarities to current stuff like dreamcore and liminal spaces.

When he first entered the violence district i saw the street lamps and concrete floor and almost had a heart attack. I have this nightmare every once in awhile, its rare but when I do see it I immediately want to wake back up, its where I'm in an endless parking lot under a starless night sky with streetlamps dotting it, no cars, no building for the parking lot to lead up to, just an endless concrete hell. I always felt like I was being chased or watched, but no matter where I looked or how far into the dream I was I never saw anything, I could walk for miles and never see anything other than an endless ocean of concrete and streetlamps, it always devolves into me curling up on the ground and crying, when I wake up my face is soaked with tears and my hands are shaking like they're playing the maracas, but the strangest part about the dream is that I always forget about it until something shows up and makes me remember it or if I have it again, the second the violence district showed up the memories came flooding back.

Something about the dark figure is extremely unnerving. Just the chance to spawn in anywhere at any time at a rare chance. everything in the game is surreal and facinating and oddly chill. Until you see the shrouded figure and you realise you are not safe here, they are stalking you wherever you go. and the scary thing is that its only sometimes spawned in which induces paranoia

If you like exploration based, strange dream-like games like this, Yume Nikki (meaning "Dream Diary") and possibly even one of its many fangames are a good place to check out. It's free and was made on the RPG Maker engine, so it is Pixel Art 2D rather than 90s 3D. Yume Nikki itself doesn't feature dialogue, just written UI like LSD:DE.

I just thought of this and it makes so much sense. When you see a liminal space image and feel weird or nostalgic it happens cause you are seeing a memory just not your own memory but a memory many people have had. Each person had seen the same thing but aren’t the same exact thing. Like a memory that isn’t your own
@funni_noises
@funni_noises 2 жыл бұрын
I worded that very badly so I will make a reply explaining it better. A memory created when experiencing something. Have you ever been to a place like Chuck E. Cheese? Or something similar? Then any liminal space image with a place that has some similarities to a kids pizzeria or other party centered restaurant for kids will make you nostalgic for the memories of going to a place like that but you don’t remember the memory just feel the nostalgia from the memory you can’t recall. A memory that isn’t your own but you still feel it as if it was? Or Something like that

Fun fact: In The Natural World, that grassy expanse with the giant fish, if you look into the water under that large bridge you crossed, can see what seems to be the Violence District beneath the water! You'll wanna look from land, though. There are also maps of The Natural World, so if you wanna find certain events or places then check the wiki page for them, it's VERY helpful. You should, if you return to this game, make a video focused around The Natural World. It has 25 objects/events to se, so you WILL need those maps If yuo want those maps but don't wanna see any screenshots of events, I can link the images directly. Fun Fact: the game uses procedural generation to determine where you'll end up each time you hit a wall. It takes into account what you did & where you went to decide what happens next. It's kinda impressive

There's a few other games made by an artist who worked on this called "Tong-Nou" and "Chu-Teng" both are pretty weird but have more of a story. I've never played them so idk how easily accessible they are but I think it's worth looking into.

I do advise looking up and down at the various things you encounter, it can unlock a _lot_ of special interactions with objects. Things come to life, aircraft give you special scenes, you can nope the Grey Man by walking through him whilst looking up... Edit: Your starting location depends on your most recent dream's placement on the Chart. Edit x2: The Grey Man prevents you from flashing back to anything that's present at the time that he gets you. Edit x3: The flash-disappear thing _is_ the Grey Man's 'attack.' If you see that, he got you.

I think the closest thing we have to a dream emulator game in the vein of LSD Dream Emulator would probably be 0°N 0°W, or ZERONORTHZEROWEST. It's not randomly generated for the most part but it's the closest I can think of in terms of games whose style matches LSD:DE.

Yeah this isn't a "game" in any conventional sense, other than looking sort of like one and following a game-like structure in it's presentation. But it has no real progression, no score, no levels (in a conventional sense), no goals, and you can't really die, let alone win or lose. It's an interactive art experience.... Which I guess could be said of many actual games too, but you know what I mean. I like the concept of this game, but very few of my dreams are even slightly abstract impossibilities like this. 90% of my dreams are mundane, everyday stuff that takes place in very realistic cities, where I do relatively normal stuff and have conversations and whatnot. Time flows normally and all the laws of physics and such are obeyed (eg; no flying around, no special powers, no impossible changes of architecture and location...) Basically while some of them are very odd and even disconcerting if not outright nightmares, almost all are set in places that might or could exist in reality; and in and in situations and such that might be strange but are at least possible. My other "dreams" are so experiences so real as to involve all my sense and be literally indistinguishable from reality; other than the fact they start & end with me in bed. Otherwise they are as real as real, and even after I wake, the memories are perfectly vivid and contiguous as any memory of anything from waking reality; unlike my normal dream memories whcih tend to be hazy, incomplete, and where the obvious weirdness/physical impossibilities of the dream become apparent. In these "dreams" though, there's a couple persistent and autonomous worlds I visit, wherein there are consistent places and people and such; as if I have a couple separate lives I've been living in shifts in my sleep over a couple decades now at least, complete with homes, friends, associates, etc. I'm not into mystic stuff at all and am generally skeptical and rational, but it long ago reached the point with the realism and persistent places/people/etc in these "dreams" that I have given very serious credence to the whole concept of other String Theory, parallel worlds and other dimensions... And the concepts of astral projection; well more the general idea of the self or soul (or whatever you want to call your conscious self essence) becoming untethered from the physical body in sleep and able to enter other dimensions or planes of existence. The utter perfect realism of these "dreams", and my memories of them have pretty much convinced me. The difference between these "dream" experiences, and what I'll call normal dreams, are like night and day; or as big as the difference between dreaming and waking -- for normal dreams may seem more or less real while you're having them, but become obvious nonsense upon waking consideration. These "dream" experiences still seem to have been 100% real even after I wake, the memories don't fade, and they remain indistinguishable from real experiences. Sometimes I'll even have to seriously consider whether I did something in waking life or in one of these experiences, that's how real they are. So yeah. Consciousness, the self/soul, and other worlds are certainly mysteries... (I am sane, have no mental disorders, don't use any drugs, and am not epileptic nor have any brain tumors, nor have I ever hallucinated or anything while awake. Apparently either my dreams are either more real than 99.999999% of other people's, or I am somehow projecting my soul/self/whatever into other dimensions in my sleep.

I got plenty of dream-like material to suggest--especially for this channel, if you're interested. 13:45 But plenty of weird things existed in the 90s on tv. MTV was popular. Heck, even Adult Swim started airing in the 90s I think. I'm guessing you mean less "weird" but moreso "surreal" tho. If you're as curious about the past as I am, I'd suggest checking out r/obscuremedia (a slightly niche subreddit that I like). Fair bit of surreal lost media from the past. You mentioned a more modern retake for dream-like games like LSD. Radiohead's Kid A Mnesia Exhibition might be just your thing. It's fairly small, and it's free too! I don't listen to Radiohead or anything like it, and even I thought it was great. Very surreal experience. And y'know what's also funny and dream-logic-like? AI DUNGEON. Neural-network generated stories based on your input. Check it out! It's also free! (can pay for deeper settings) Also, you ever consider keeping a dream journal? A streamer I know, Vinny from Vinesauce, started a dream journal a few years ago and sometimes, at the start of a stream or whenever there's downtime, will read them aloud. They were pretty funny and disjointed, unusual. I figure for your slowly descriptive way of telling stories, it's a good fit. Simply keep a dream journal/phone near you, and when you wake up, immediately jot details before you forget, then afterwards about how it made you feel.

I remember discovering this being played by a currently dormant twitch streamer and youtuber called AzuriteReaction around 13 years ago. It's sad he's stopped uploading videos, especially since I think this liminal space thing might vibe with him. I've been watching the remake, LSD: Revamped, for years. I even produced music for it. all in all, It's one of the most interesting games I've ever experienced.

Of But course surrealism didn’t start in the internet age. Just check out underground comix of the 1960s and early 1970s, then back to the trippiest Max Fleischer animations, then back to surrealist art, then to Dada, then back to Bruegel and Bosch and the utterly off the wall art of the alchemists.

23:40 I think I might know what you're talking about. I don't even know if it was a game, but there was this weird interactive game of sorts that was on an old power mac I had back in 2000-2001 I think it was a mac 6300. The game involved some kind of green reptilian humanoid creature that would talk and explain various aspects about these dinosaurs that were in some exhibit. It had a creepy robotic voice, but I can't remember any more than this. It might not be what you're thinking of at all, but maybe it is.

Maybe i am different from most, and i think it may be my lack of internal monologue (i don’t have an internal voice i use to talk to myself) my dreams are always stories. I jump around the timeline of the stories adding to the details all night, but they are always a set of places, people and actions that i create and play like a first person puppet show. Also, there is no topic more boring than someone else’s dreams which to me seems a strange truth.

I often have dreams, but I like my dreams are odd. Like not the big mushroom valleys or anything but like not like other peoples dreams, like I can describe my dreams to the fullest like I once had a dream where I was at a zoo and there was an elephant trapped under a log basically was a killer elephant and tried to get me to eat some cheese. I know it sounds insane. Odd but that’s where my dreams and I could literally specifically remember the city skyline and like where the highest house skyscraper next to the zoo was it was so weird I don’t remember driving like some fancy car around that city. Once this is like the main cities up all my dreams tend to happen and it’s kind of weird but I just named it new Josh city because my middle name is Josh Josh.

I wonder what affects the chances of a Gray Man spawning. I just assumed during your previous video that he'd spawn randomly, but this video almost proves to me that this isn't the case. Whereas you had to hunt for him in the previous video in anticipation, here he'd spawn at almost every map after the first time he spawned in. Makes me wonder if the chances of him spawning increases with each previous spawn but what gets me excited is the possibility that something more is at play here.
