Thanks for exploring the liminal gallery! I finally had some time to watch this video, and was quite surprised, at how well you were able to interpret my creations, like the hard to explain feeling of being "alone together" and feeling of being lost in a gallery or cinema. This map would not have been made if i never found your channel and you have way more influence on the liminal spaces genre than you think you have. 41:17 On that note of AI generated architecture, there is this science fiction manga series named BLAME! where the setting is created by machines that has gone out of control and started to construct massive buildings placed haphazardly, connected by long walkways and corridors that serve no stretches on seemingly forever. Different parts of humanity are spread so far across this harsh and vast structure that they could never meet within their lifetimes. The main character is a non-human character who walks through this megastructure for years or even centuries on end, hoping to come accross what he is searching for. If we someday get AI to generate 3D maps for us in the same manner, we would truly have a pure and infinite liminal space generator.

Spaces like the one at 8:13 and the like have made me realize that the game Control relies pretty heavily on the concept of liminal spaces. I am 99.99% sure that all humans must have some kind of thalassophobia to some degree. I maybe have this feeling only because of my phobia for sharks and the ocean when I was younger but... Oceans may not scare everybody but DEEP waters and also the Unknown. Imagine being the first to explore a new depth or area of an ocean, never explored before. It feels like its almost impossible for a human being not to be afraid of what they will find.
@absoluteaffirmative2 жыл бұрын
@@staffelgren4508 It could be equal parts fear of water and the unknown But my theory is this; I think it’s less that humans fear the water itself, but more of unknown creatures in a place where air to survive is limited, and the fear of being trapped with who-knows-what while trying to swim up to breathe is the real terror of the deep

Librarian, I've noticed something about you the more I watch your videos, me and you have a very similar perspective on things. for example at 30:30 when you mentioned the "everyone alone together" I absolutely love that interaction, especially with my girlfriend. and in general i can relate and easily comprehend all the ideas that come to your mind when you enter a room, or explain how a place makes you feel. Oh i'm so glad you did this video! I was one of the people that requested a video about this map, there is so much things and paths to explore on that. Plus, I KNOW you would jumpscare at the cafeteria mirror, haha. And the dark void room, all mental preparation to dive into the unknown... just to realize that there is a invisible wall "protecting" you from that. Now just after watching this video i had an epiphany that the strange scene at film set (12:00) reminds me of SCP-173 (all those lights and props oriented as if they were "watching" the weird object, as if one of they turns the back to it will be attacked). I also love your pondering on realization that you are "The Scary Thing". 3:16 the way ai and computers generate images is a fascinating thing, for some they do it just how you describe, they take in an obscene amount of data, and then kinda vomit out something based on a prompt, but for more advanced programs they actually are capable of generating entirely original images through some really complicated computer stuff I don’t really understand(they encode the image into data they can understand, think of it like our brains turning the signals from light into an image we can understand), but heavily simplified, these more advanced ais are capable of a kind of imagination where they can visualize a prompt and turn it into an image for us to see, stuff like dalle 2 and googles imagen can make incredibly cohesive images where the “intent” behind the image is clear to see, though they can struggle with smaller details
