I think for a talk-show host he does a great job. He asks some uncomfortable questions, and doesn't give Comey the smooth ride he might expect from Fallon or Corden. But he or his people must have known that's how it would be.

See? This is how mature intelligent people behave. One asks a question, the other patiently listens to the question and answers with the same depth of thought without anyone being cut off or told what they think. That's also how you let someone divulge something they shouldn't mention or wander into bull shitting, but that didn't happen here. I'm glad I got to watch it.

It is such a huge relief to and so refreshing to see an interview like this. Nowadays 99.9% of political talk shows are one person preaching for an hour based on their own opinions and most interviews turn into shouting fests and hyperbole, it is so refreshing to see an interview like this. If only there were more like this. When the news networks started having shows with multiple people talking over each other and bickering, I quit watching most political shows. It was like listening to hens cackling. You can only hear the loudest one and only part of what they are saying at best on those types of shows. I wish there were more interviews like this one instead of what the majority are nowadays.

It was a wonderful interview and I agree with everything you said. My concern, Comey is going to be on The View tomorrow and Meghan McCain said, their going to fillet him. Then Whoopie, said, not where not, however, I know Meghan is going to a like a shark attacking a bleeding swimmer. Fire Meghan McCain and replace her with Ana Navara, someone who would have an intelligent conversation similar to what we saw tonight.

Humphrey B Obama is certainly another trigger point for him isn’t he. Trump doesn’t care for the American people.. all he wants his to ruin Obama’s legacy. As he said after Michelle’s speech.. ‘he’s only in the job because of her husband’. If I were American that would worry me.. it shows why he went for the job and shows it wasn’t for the greater good but simply revenge. It worries me not being American too though as this fool is at present the most powerful guy on the planet. And there’s another thing.. he gives no fucks for the planet or the climate either. Another four years and we’ll all be fucked, not just America.

Banksy Banksy I am an American and the thing that terrifies me most is how many citizens can’t see what is clearly in front of all of us and it has been that way long before he became president. There’s just no excuse. There’s only one option… Just absolute ignorance. One way or another. There is only one simple fact that you need to know about Trump and that he is devoid of empathy, which means he is in capable of integrity or doing anything for anyone other than himself. How anyone could be blind to that… I will never be able to understand. It doesn’t matter how many ultimate tests we have had happening consecutively and concurrently… There are far too many here that support him and that is absolutely terrifying. How could someone be so blind while being stabbed in the back along with the rest of us that actually do have the sense God gave a strawberry?It was bad enough that I knew he was going to be elected president while everyone was angry at me and protecting us and thinking I was a fool. I didn’t know enough there was too much fear in this country and people that bought his snake oil. The possibility of another four years… I don’t know what I’m going to do if that were to happen. I know I can’t stay in this country if that were to happen.
@gretchenwenzel2906

Banksy Banksy You could not be more correct. Trump is not just adding to the troubles of this country. He is adding to the troubles of this world and I’m doing an endless amount of things that some money had worked so hard at and with so many other countries to progress and move ahead and doing the right thing for everyone. People with the right intentions that didn’t just revolve around their own narcissism and lack of empathy. We are all screwed if he somehow becomes president again. He has set up everything methodically so that no matter what happens with the vote, He has every excuse cupboard and there will be major issues. This is someone that complained even after winning in 2016. We are absolutely screwed no matter what happens during this election. We can only hope and pray for the best and that somehow this man is held accountable, as well. Absolutely mind blowing

As someone who used to do debate, Stephen was amazing. He did exactly what you should do; call out BS immediately. For example, correcting Comey on his use of the word "concealing". Why is that choice of word important? Because if he let Comey get away with say "conceal", you concede that what Comey did the right thing. No. He wasn't some martyr who did the right thing; he broke norms.

Dean Bombaderi if you spend your time watching actual news you are wasting your time, ignore all the local and normal news and pull up all the late night comedy news and you will get the just of the news and you will have something to laugh at. Using the TV to see how fucked up the world is defeats the purpose in a way, cause you can see that a anywhere else, the TV can show you literally anything entertain everyone. It's a waste to use a powerful device like that to sit around and see all the drama and shit in the world, you can get weather and important headlines on Google for God's sake, everything else you can go ahead and laugh about.

Colbert seemed to let his partisanship intrude during his questions involving Clinton's emails. Comey may have changed my view slightly. I better understand the incredibly tough position he was in right before the election. He also piqued my interests a little bit about Lynch. The classified document involving her is interesting. I say all of this as a strong supporter/voter of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and his Justice Department. It's important to acknowledge one's own biases whenever they apply. I think Stephen went a little too hard on Comey during those questions but I guess sometimes it's important to be uncomfortable in order to get to the truth. There's no evidence Hillary Clinton or Loretta Lynch did anything intentionally illegal but to just sweep everything under the rug without investigation just seems wrong to me. I think Comey had two horrible choices and he went with the less bad one when he reopened the email investigation with a couple weeks left before we went to the polls. This whole interview is why the LSSC is so valuable, though. Stephen is an important treasure.

It was a softball interview. It's just that the bar has been set so low by the likes of Fox News and Jimmy Fallon that any kind of straight questioning outside of "tell us all what you think is your best achievement" is considered hardball journalism. Colbert is an actor and comedian. Anderson Cooper is a media personality. Let's see Comey go and be interviewed by someone like Jeremy Paxman of the BBC, the kind of interviewer who's picador and matador all in one package, who will not rest until he's taken you down.

I think Colbert did a public service here. I came in very skeptical about Comey; felt he personalized something that needed to stay objective. And yet, to hear him formulate his answers, how carefully he constructs his thoughts, seemingly maintaining a direct connection to the truth, restores my acceptance of his personal integrity and professionalism in doing his work. How refreshing! and thank you Steven!

And then maybe Comey could play Colbert, and he interviews himself (who is, again, played by Colbert) on this same set. Maybe Alec Baldwin plays Trump but he plays it straight and more dramatically, and the videos of Trump doing and saying dumb shit on TV is made to look like the SNL skits. And I want it to be directed by Scorsese. He needs to recreate what happened in the Ritz Carlton in the way only he can. Think Wolf of Wall Street but with a less likeable lead. It's even got smart and respectable FBI agents who look like they could all be related! This needs to happen.

Not surprisingly, Colbert has provided the most informative Comey interview so far. He may be a late night comedian, but Stephen continues to be one of the most intelligent and rational thinkers on television. Calling the undisclosed contents of the Lynch document a convenient "can't blame me card" is an angle I hadn't seen pressed on other shows yet. Nor have I seen anyone else bother to go to that infamous hotel room in Russia. And sadly, he's probably the only TV personality who has actually read the book instead of just going on air with talking points culled by others with their own agenda.

@JesseLeeHumphry
@JesseLeeHumphry 3 жыл бұрын
@@LukeMcGuireoides So firstly, the idea that Comey gave us Trump is patently ridiculous. Secondly, waited? For what? Someone to leak that the investigation had been reopened? That's jet fuel for conspiracy theories. The entire point of Comey's actions were that he needed to retain public faith in the organization; not telling the public that the investigation had been reopened would have hamstrung the whole FBI. It would have been another reason for Fox News etc. to discredit the whole organization. Hillary could have solved the problem by not being technologically incompetent in the 21st century or by hiring someone who knew their shit. Maybe when you find yourself defending dynastic politicians with records of racism (i.e. the phrase 'superpredator), you should consider that you're not on the right side. And before we even have to fucking get here, no, I did not and would never vote for Trump or any Republican. I barely even want to vote for Democrats.

Stephen is his own man and i won't say that he is following in anyones footsteps, but that is the exact reason that made Jon Stewart such an important, though often forgotten by the majority, figure in the news. As documentaries and shorts about Jon Stewart have said, he was the fact checker for the news. After seeing the twisted, but not always necessarily broken, truths that come out by the major news organizations, it takes people with a more cynical view to pull out the truth. Comedians have to know how to make the audience connect with them, and when you are trying to not only make them laugh, but inform them, you often ask the harder questions, with maybe a comedic undertone, that other news-casters are too afraid to touch. This is why you don't see guests walk out of 60 minutes, they know what the questions will be before they are even asked, but put them in front of a comedian? Theres no telling what might be asked or grilled out of them.
@coffeehawk
@coffeehawk 6 жыл бұрын
Comedy and entertainment interviews are not investigative interviews, they're not real in the sense that they only exist to support the guest and the guest's opinions. It's the same when a movie star is the guest; there's no review of the movie, it's just hype to sell the actor and movie.

His final words at the end of the interview filled me with so much hope. Trump is a Forest Fire and he’s destroying everything America has that’s still standing, but Forest Fires make fertile soil and give way to greener better life. I have also noticed that before this election people did not care about politics, Civil services, laws, their was no an awareness for the country itself. Even as this is going on Trump and his corrupt administration is showing the American public just how broken and corrupt many parts of our country are and making people want to do something about it. People actually care again.

It's so weird seeing a person on TV that's willing to answer questions head on and not deflect on anything. It's kinda sad that it's such a rare thing.

@Zachary Whitney I agree with you. It IS rare. And besides finding it sad as well, I think it is dangerous and dumbs us down as a society. A lot has to do with our entire reasoning process. It's almost as if arriving at the actual truth doesn't matter....hence the Orwellian term uttered by Kellyanne Conway..."alternative facts."

It's so weird seeing a person on TV that's willing to answer questions head on and not deflect on anything Just like Hillary I suspect Colbert's writers told Comey what the questions were going to be! The joke about Trumps tweets over the past year was definitely staged! Comey is a narcissistic fraud who can act as a moral concerned person. He has probably practiced this in the mirror for many years! His mental problem is he really believes he is the smartest most moral person in the room. Both parties wanted him fired. His ex peers in the FBI are ashamed of his money making book tour. Now Comey has thrown his 2nd. in command under the bus claiming he never gave him permission to leak on Hillarys e-mails. McCabe swears he did, McCabe has been caught telling 3 lies under oath to the FBI. Watch Comey not come clean and let McCabe do jail time for lying to the FBI.

I can't really be mad at Comey did his actions sway some votes away from Hilary? Yes, I'm sure, but we had a man on tape admitting to sexually assaulting women and no one gave a single fuck I knew Trump was going to win at that moment. That we have fallen so far that people were willing to vote for a man who would say and admit something like that on tape laughing all the way and give him the power of the presidency. That's not Comeys fault its Americas.

Christina Pandian I really enjoyed this interview as well, he seems like a man who is just trying to get his side of the story out to the public and hoping it can help the people he dedicated his life to serving. I also liked what he said as the way to fight and stop Trump and those like him is not by impeachment but by showing that as Americans we don’t want what he is selling most of us never did.

You must be joking. This guy has zero integrity. He conducted an investigation based on his expectations that Hillary is going to win and tries to play the politically neutral role. After he gets fired he writes a book in the name of promoting 'ethical leadership' which is full of shit coming from an unethical dodgy investigator. It's obvious he's just trying to make a buck now by writing a 'tell all' book that does not actually tell anything cus he obviously has nothing new to bring to the table.

I've always liked Colbert. This interview, however, has made my esteem for him pretty much unexpectedly move skyward. SO well done. The right questions, the right nuance. Exceptional. Also it's a pleasure to see Comey, his earnestness always targeting veracity and greater good - and most importantly not limited to his own belief system. This also is highly exceptional and sadly rare these days to behold. I hope we see more and more of it in public servants.
