Just some notes on MOTHER 3 N64. - Development started in 1994 on the SNES/SNES CD, not on a regular Nintendo 64 cartridge. The game was on 64DD first before being switched to a regular cartridge in very late 1998/1999. You can clearly see a cartridge in the SpaceWorld '99 pics. - The game was a planned 64DD launch title, not a planned base N64 launch title. I don't believe it ever was. - The game was about 50% at SpaceWorld '99, which was straight up said in the SpaceWorld '99 Booklet. - Cancellation came down to the devs focusing on smaller details, needing resources to be shifted to the Nintendo Gamecube, and them simple running out of time. The devs struggling was really only an issue very early on in N64's development. - The scope of the game was already being reduced by 1999 with some success. The biggest reduction was the 12 Chapters to 9. Though it seems the story was still pretty different from the final GameBoy Advance version. - When the game was cancelled, they considered both the GameCube & the GameBoy Advance. They said the GameCube wouldn't have solved all their problems. Itoi felt as though the GameBoy Advance wasn't the right platform to share the story & feelings he wanted. I recommend checking out the TCRF pre-release page for MOTHER 3 and MOTHER 4ever, me & my friends have poured countless hours into researching & spreading accurate information about the game. We also have a Discord server dedicated to researching & hanging out. I wouldn't recommend Starmen.net or the Wikipedia page as good sources, as those are heavily outdated.
@SuperRetro642 жыл бұрын
Some extra notes: -The SNES version apparently has a playable build according to Reid Young, someone who is close to Itoi and has interviewed him a few times. It was supposed to be a pre-rendered game similar to DKC. The plot was a hard-boiled detective story at this early point in development. -Mother 3, if it was released on N64, would’ve got a N64DD add-on that’d expand out the story. It was confirmed in 1999 to IGN that Mother 3.5 was in development alongside Mother 3 on cartridge. We know nothing about it besides the fact it was supposed to happen. -Early builds of the N64 version still exists, it was confirmed by a Brownie Brown employee that they were permitted to play through what bit of M3 they had. The game crashed after the first chapter, but according to the employee, it had a very Flintstone’s kinda vibe. The build was given out by HAL and was taken back shortly after. We could still end up finding Mother 3 N64 at some point in time. We know at least HAL has a build of the game and there has been a lot of discussion if Itoi has a build of it or not. That’s not including the Spaceworld build which could potentially be found if there’s another giga-leak.

I want to find a short I saw when I was a kid in late 90's early 00's. I watched it on a channel called LOCOMOTION (I don't know if it was a channel just here in Latin America or if it was an international version of other network). That channel used to stream content mostly for young adults. There was a segment that aired mostly near midnight called LOCOTOMIA that showed short films and animations. The short I'm talking about was in "clay motion" (it reminds me now that chicken movie made in this format) and I recall it was about a society in which everyone does what they're supposed to: everyone goes to work at the same place, everyone goes shopping at the same place, etc. At some point the main character notices a window and is unable to see what's "outside". After various days of walking by that window with the rest of the people at the same time, the main character takes a peek out of that window and goes through it and ends up "outside" where there's a beautiful sight of a sky full of stars. Then he looks back at the window and sees how all the people inside goes from one side to another at the same time and at the same rhythm. The short ends here. The whole short had no dialog, only sound effects when needed, like people walking, working and being at home. I remember being a kid and thinking that some of the shorts that aired in that segment (LOCOTOMIA) used to be so long but I guess that being a kid enjoying some TV made me think they were long. I remember this short in particular because it meant so much to me at a young age to get a message like that: DARE TO GO OUTSIDE. It defined my way of thinking from there to the present day and I will carry that message with me for the rest of my life.

Surprisingly, there are very few videos of gameplay online, so it's impossible to view the story in its original form. (And of course, it's unplayable. We have no game.) The port was shown to be running on the Vita, yet the game was silently cancelled at some point with seemingly no plans to revive it. I managed to do a full translation of the main story thanks to Japanese scripts and screenshots, but there's so much we don't have. It would be cool if you could feature it sometime to boost the word about it. If more people knew what we were missing, there might at least be a chance that somebody would step forward with new screenshots or videos. It's very interesting to see that originally Conker's debut game was gonna be more of a kiddie platformer compared to the raunchy game we got in the final release! I hope we can find more of the game, as well as everything else featured in the video, so we can maybe even get a chance to play it!

Rare made a video on KZbin showcasing Twelve Tales some years ago, so at the very least there's still one build that exists. Even if it isn't the most complete or polished.

My most-wanted “lost” media (some of it might not technically be lost, but it’s certainly hard to find/acquire) -Cartoon Network kids meal toys released by Hardee’s in the Middle East (e.g. Samurai Jack, Foster’s Home, Megas XLR, Billy & Mandy) (I once owned some of these toys, but lost them over time, and I tried finding some info online, but only found things relating to my search, but not what I was exactly looking for). -Cartoon Network comics (as it stands, a lot of CN comics just aren’t available digitally, esp titles like Block Party and Action Pack, and there never have been collected editions and single issues sell for stupid prices on ebay). -The rest of The Batman Strikes and Justice League Unlimited comic book series (some 20+ issues have been released digitally, but not the entire series; barely any collected editions, and I feel like I’m the only one in the world who has the rest of those series. However, it is possible the entirety of these series are available through “unofficial resources”). -The entire content library of Cartoon Orbit (Idk if there’s a catalogue of every item that was released on Cartoon Orbit somewhere out there, but there was a lot of stuff released for that game, and they were all digital). -The entire 2nd season of Baby Blues (I never watched the show, but something about an entire season being nearly finished, but ultimately scrapped due to the show’s cancellation just fascinates me).

The Vocaloid-P data collection. Basically a bunch of files made by a bunch of popular song materials by popular producers that work with robot materials that were sold years ago. Barely anything about it and no one seems to have it surprisingly due to the very popular songs on it (Paradichlorobenzene, Don't look at me in that way; which is a song made by the same person that made Aishite Aishite Aishite, etc)

I want to see “An Ambush of Ghosts” be unearthed. There isn’t even a dedicated lost media article about it, which is bizarre to me considering it starred well known actors such as Stephen Dorff, Bruce Davison & David Arquette along with having a soundtrack composed by In The Nursery, so you’d assume it would at least have _something_ even if it were just a wikia page. What intrigues me is apparently when the film was shown at a Sundance festival in 1993 it never got a middle score, you either had people giving it top marks or straight up walking out. The reason it was never officially released was because it was considered “too real” to find a willing distributor, which makes me think we might be missing out on a real hidden gem of a movie experience.

Personally, my most wanted lost media are the post-1997 rewrite Half-Life 1 beta builds. Most of these were made around 8 months before the game's release but have so many differences. There are only like 2 screenshots of them. Apperantly Geoff Keighley (the HL books writer) has CDs containing all the builds, but hasn't released them. Maybe they still exist on valve's servers.

the conker one always bugged me, yeah there were a ton of platformers with similar art styles, but that was never an issue, so why did it suddenly become so with conker? twelve tales looked fun, and im kind of sad we didnt get it because of that one reason, which was kinda bs

One of my major regrets was never being amongst the that were able to check out the 3DS at all during its unveiling at E3. Out of all the games there that were teased and announced that day, one game that had my interest the most was the DJ Hero game that was being tailor made for the platform. Not only because it was at a time where I was an absolute fan of the Hero franchise, especially the DJ Hero games, but this was meant to be that sub series' first go on a handheld platform. And with how it played in the console games, I was more curious with how that can translate over to the 3DS at least. Shame that that will never be the case as footage like that will be lost to time since people weren't willing to record the stuff at all for some reason.

I think there could be different schools of thought regarding the "elusiveness" of "lost" media that is known to still exist but hasn't been released. For some, keeping it to themselves could make it far more valuable. For others though, such as with Sonic, there is still the chance that some day it could be included as an extra to bump up the price and appeal of a future product. For instance (though this is just an example, not a prediction), if SEGA were to have found it I wouldn't be surprised if they included it in the upcoming Sonic Origins, which could even explain why the game is as expensive as it is. Or even another game or collection further down the line.

My dream lost media is pretty obscure. I was watching Dragonball Z Kai on Fox Kids / 4kids with my daughter, and somewhere in the sequence where Nappa destroys the building and fighter jets, Vegeta said something to the effect of, "Nappa, are you going to calm down, or am I going to have to get you de-loused?". The wording there is by no means accurate, except that he definitely mentioned having Nappa de-loused. I remember it because it cracked me up how bad of a translation mistake it seemed to be, but when I went to find the clip years later I could not find that line of dialogue in any of the dubs I could find. Pretty dumb one, but then again, if it is so obscure as to not be found it might mean there was a unique dub being used for some reason.

I might have a little info on the Sticker Star trailer. This isn’t a lead, but it might help to find one. It’s been a very long time so I might be misremembering, but I believe that Sticker Star trailer wasn’t E3-exclusive. Before the 3DS came out, down here in Australia, we had demo events where you could play the console. Not for the press or something, just promotion, if you were able to make it there then you could try out the console. Also at the events were consoles displayed out of reach that were playing trailers for various 3DS games. I know there was a Sticker Star trailer on there. I can’t remember if it was the same one but those images are sort of jogging my memory. I’m pretty sure I remember the wiggler scene, I definitely remember the card room (the card stack was intractable or a trap or something and jumped up or Mario smashed it with a hammer) and I’m sure there was some scene of Mario floating down a river on a log. Unless I’m misremembering it was out there somewhere beside E3 dude. They didn’t allow footage at the demo event, but I wouldn’t have it on me anyway. Edit: I skimmed a couple of the trailers we do have and I’m positive that none of them are the one I saw. The trailer was out there somewhere other than E3. I can’t help more than that but I hope this was interesting, good luck. There was also a demo for Kid Icarus there. I got to play it a year early because of that. They didn’t even have voice acting in the stages yet. It was pretty cool. I can’t remember what all the stages in the final game are but I think the one in the demo was that one where you meet Magnus, closer to the end of the stage with some rail grinding bit. I can’t remember which stage that is in the final game, but I remember what it looked like in the demo, I’d be able to tell you what stage it was supposed to be if I saw pictures from the final game. The layout was sort of different too, you only got to play a little portion of the stage and there were more bottomless pits there than in the final game.

My personal holy grail is a show that was on The Children's Channel cable channel back around 1986 or so, called Hennapippa. It was a cartoon of a chicken over live action shots, one of them took place in a skittles lane, where she replaced the ball with an egg. Just had a thought, what if the Go For A Punch 'anime' (i say anime loosely due to the lack of evidence of it being real) is a similar case like the evil farming game rumors that went around for years. Where maybe someone on a livestream came up with an idea for a horror anime or game or whatever and people forgot about that livestream???? So now people are just adding onto the obscurity and lost media lore of it? I can't help but feel that a lot of these lost medias are often mixed up childhood/preteenhood/teenhood memories and dreams people have had of playing video games and/or watching something or hearing of someone jokingly coming up with a what if kinda game/show thing and then mixing it up with a bunch of other stuff they've witnessed in the media.

Mind you they also had no idea about how deranged Tony Hawk Underground games were. Literally in the first one there is a warp thing that sends you to a different part of that level, that is entered through a UFO shaped building, where there a men cheering and cat-call whistling around a goat. After you pop out to the other part, you get a stats achievement thing called, "petting zoo". My mother thought it was another innocent skateboarding game, like Pro Skater.
