I feel like the Margaret Hamilton episode of Sesame Street being found is probably the biggest find of the Lost Media era I've been a part of, other than A Day With Spongebob (despite that being lost to the ether). I was never a part of the search effort, but always hoped that it would be found, since I'm a big fan of both Sesame Street and The Wizard of Oz. So happy this one's been preserved.

Will Lee, the actor of Mr.hooper, never had cancer. He died due to a heart attack in Lenox Hill Hospital and did participate in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in November 1982, before passing away the following month. It's good the piece of lost media pertaining to the 1982 parade was found, because it literally was what was left of Will Lee aside from the Mr.hooper persona he played on Sesame Street for 12 seasons until his death.

And this is media from a big corporation as opposed to an indie project that a few people developed. I don't feel like it's morally wrong to pirate/share content from big corporations, they've got too much money as it is. If this was an indie project, I would 100% want the original creator(s) to give their explicit permission, especially if the uploader was making money. But a big media corporation is different.
@kekcrocgod6731 Жыл бұрын
@@lindanimated there’s not really a difference between pirating from a corporation or indie studio, either way the ppl who worked hard to create the product will potentially lose money. However in this scenario, it’s not like anyone was airing the wicked witch episode anytime soon, so it’s fine in this context imo
@dianaburn2474 Жыл бұрын
@@kekcrocgod6731 With the often anti-consumer business practices OF the typical corporation, I have no issue with pirating. Also, the "ppl who worked hard to create the product" aren't going to be effected. You're talking about the people who actually work on projects, I assume, like writers, camera operators, etc. In most cases, unless it's a massive strategic effort, pirating isn't going to harm said people.

There was some clips of it in a recent special about the series, which IMO felt a bit disappointing as it was only a few clips and a lot of it focused on BLM-related stuff that I didn't care much for rather than the general history of the show and what it's done for television (both children's TV and in general). Not to mention the earlier show tackled the same subject first back in the late 80s, but they kind of just vaguely mention that fact like it was no big deal. They also got several things wrong about the original show. Honestly, knowingly keeping a piece of media history lost is just straight up selfish and the museum being mad the data got stolen and leaked is well deserved. You can't tell me nobody working for the museum didn't know the episode was lost. If Sesame Street themselves wanted to keep it under wraps, fine. But they gave the episode to a museum for viewing. Stealing a piece of media from a museum database isn't exactly the same thing as stealing the authentic Mona Lisa.

I personally am frustrated that folks are trying to get the Sesame Street episode taken down; I feel like it’s extremely selfish to gatekeep media, especially when it was created to educate impoverished children. Like I really think it’s time we asked ourselves, what’s more important? Someone’s self proclaimed entitlement toward gatekeeping, or the distribution of knowledge and art? I would argue that people who are trying to make sure there are ways for the public to access the episode are doing the right thing, because the more people can access it, the less likely it will become totally lost.
@mayhare9754 Жыл бұрын
The people who gatekeep don't really give a shit about preservation. Personally, I hope this episode gets posted literally everywhere to the point it becomes impossible for them to take it all down. Fuck these people.
@dracocrusher Жыл бұрын
Easy solution, if the creators don't want it up online for free for legal reasons then they can put it out online on an existing streaming service or some existing platform for a few bucks with a quick content warning. Super easy fix. Even if they take the actual stolen rip and put that up publically, I'd still say they're in the right as long as it's accessible. They'd get tons of money, tons of publicity, a lot of renewed interest in the series, and all they'd have to do is shove in 5 seconds of warning text saying something like "The following episode has been banned for intense and frightening content, viewer discretion is advised." That would solve any complaints and cost basically nothing to do.

Most people don't really care when media like this gets posted online. Hell, the Scream TV series YT channel recently released the "Click Skip and Die" YT ad that had offended everyone back in the day; a lot of (ex) employees are happy to cooperate with these searches. In the case of the Sesame Street episode, these guys are just being assholes and were gatekeeping only because they could. Fuck them.
@SATOhara31732 жыл бұрын
I think the fact that there's any controversy that something was "stolen" from somewhere that held it hostage solely for copyright reasons is really stupid. There is a 1954 Kenya Boy film by Daiei, which hasn’t been available in Japan for decades, but that’s mostly due to legal reasons. It doesn’t help that its truer to the text (and just as weird) animated remake by Toei Animation seems to be more popular in certain countries (including Sweden and Greece) rather than in Japan, because when it was first released there, it bombed hard and got devoured by the huge national success of an anime film based on Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicäa manga, much to the surprise of both critics and audiences alike. Also not helping is that both are adapted from an old graphic novel series which hasn’t long been translated into English, but was fair for its day.

One of the first introductions i have had to lost media was the wicked witch in sesame street. Finding out that it has been found after many years warms my heart and smaller me would be happy to hear that this is finally found

For the sesame Street episode - screw the guys who own it that are copyright claiming the leaks. They don't want it to be public? Too bad, the public deserves to have it.

I love these videos even more than videos on stuff that's currently lost. It's especially satisfying to see something long lost you'd totally forgotten about pop up in one of your FM uploads, like the Sesame Street Wicked Witch of the West episode or Quantum Quest [which I absolutely gotta watch now] Also, don't feel bad you don't really care about lost dubs or game show stuff, most people don't, and as far as I'm aware, they're niche even in the lost media following.

Wow! I wasn't expecting so many heavy hitters. This video was awesome, the only thing that will make this year better for lost media is if Saki Sanobashi indeed exists and is found! Also, will you be returning to Spirit Quest soon? It's been awhile and it's one of your favorite series of mine!

Game shows are hard, because they're often not considered worth releasing on DVD or any archive sites. I'm a Dana Hill fan and her appearances on To Tell the Truth are some of the more interesting appearances of her later live-action work.

Also, what was probably the golden age for game shows was also the golden age for wiping tapes, so a lot of them are just not in existence anymore. Or in the East River in NYC.

It’s awesome that the wicked witch episode was found. I was very quick to reupload it to my channel, and I did save a copy to my computer in case of takedowns. Thank god I did that. But yeah, if the episodes do eventually get taken down, I still have it and I’m not gonna let it go lost again

I still don't see how this was scary. I tried my best to put myself in the shoes of a kid, but when I watched the episode all I can imagine is how bored I would be at how awkward the dialogue was and just slightly uncomfortable due to all the yelling in the episode. But that's about it. I grew up with the original OZ as a seven year old and was never terrified of the witch, so maybe that's why it doesn't make any sense of it being banned to me. Don't get me wrong though, I agree it lived up to the hype. It was very fascinating and fun.

You have to keep in mind that the Witch is a threatening, malicious entity who has the power to turn people into inanimate objects and appear right next to her victims at any time with no warning. The fear would have come from the feeling of being powerless against this evil, inescapable figure who constantly shows up out of nowhere to torment you. Additionally, you have the weird sound effects, the visual effects (red smoke and the electric shock filter), the part where she's in a bit of a screaming match with the owners of the diner (young children generally don't respond well to adults getting into heated arguments), and the fact that she comes back at the end, implying that the characters had to suffer through that whole fiasco yet again.

I love and adore the Gibb brothers. I've got to correct a fact- Andy wasn't officially part of The Bee Gees, actually. He performed alongside them and they wrote music together, and they were even going to include him in the band, But I think his addiction issues had gotten too overwhelming to make it work. Andy Gibb was as talented as the rest of the brothers,and I'm just so happy this got archived properly! I think that he should've had a way bigger career than he did. I think clips of him on American tv are hard to come by. Thank you, thank you, thank you whoever came by it 🥰😗😅☺️😊💜

I really don't understand why Sesame Workshop didn't officially release the episode online themselves; it wouldn't have been leaked illegally if they had done so. I hate when companies and private entities hoard lost media and prevent the public from seeing it; I bet some private collector has all the lost Doctor Who episodes in his attic.

I understand it was deceitful taking and distributing the episode without expressed permission BUT things like this have no reason to be hidden from the public as if they'd be detrimental to the public's precious eyeballs. Remember how they banned Catcher in the Rye and the book wasn't brainwashing or intimidating at all whatsoever??? The US government lives by this and it's insulting. All information should always be open to the public period.

Gonna be real honest, I'm not even the remotest bit concerned about some people copying and sharing lost media that wasn't even made by the people who currently "own" it. our society's idea of ownership is so laughably stupid and anti-creative I can't be bothered to care, I hope more stuff like the sesame street thing is found even in the same manner.
