In 2011 Kenyi Stephen got drunk and went on a mass shooting rampage during a funeral in his village. The results of his actions led to the death of 4 people and caused severe injuries to 4 others.
He was sentenced to death and spent the last 12 years on death row, missing his appointment with execution several times. While in Jail, Kenyi gave his life to the Lord and started to lead a multi-denominational church within the prison. His work has transformed many lives in jail. He did all this while knowing that his execution might come any day.
During the Pope's visit to South Sudan in February 2023, a presidential decree offered Kenyi and 35 other death row inmates a pardon. He is now a free man trying to start a new life as he still finds avenues to seek forgiveness from his victims' families.
