This is brilliant I worked at Holborn for 3 years when we refurbished the Escalators early 2000s, and I was lucky enough to visit all of the areas you have shown in this programme, and the previous programme. Its an awesome Station and one of my favourites also got to do a track walk to Aldwych and British Museum

This was a real blast from the past for me. I remember the guy doing the research experiments in a room next to the Central London Model railway club there. I used to work as a relief signalman in the early nineties and on Sunday mornings you came to Holborn to do the “rusty rail move” to the siding on the Central line. Loved working that cabin as it had beautiful carpentry around the diagram. It was only an eleven lever frame and had no emergency release facility so you had to ensure you didn’t make a mistake. Seeing the equipment cabinet and describer drums gave me a lot of nostalgia! Wonderful episode!

Thank you so much guys for such an amazing video of the hidden tour of Holborn tube station. I travelled on the Holborn to Aldwych branch back in the 1970’s and really loved the station at Aldwych (formerly Strand) also on the British Museum tour shown on the TV series the poster of The Times Furnishing Co. Ltd, I actually worked for them from 1978 to 1987 selling sofas, cabinets, dining sets, beds, wardrobes and carpets, hope that answers Siddy’s query about what they did.

This is great to see again this station with another part to explore at central line level. Very interesting thank's to you four ! This let me dream about a last third episode at Aldwych station/branch. It could exploring the abandonned east tunnel with his old secured wall made of bricks, the former rails junction (just at south of holborn), the basement under the booking hall (motor fan room, the existing former vault, staff room) And perhaps seeying what still remain today of the lifts machinery at first floor. I'm probaly not alone to thinking about this and if it possible to made a futur last episode about that it would be interresting ! What do you think for this suggestion ?
@Shalott632 ай бұрын
That was a great episode! I remember from my younger days when I used to change at Holborn to get to places like St Paul's or Tottenham CR, getting on the train in north London at a Holden-designed station, getting off at Holborn at a Leslie Green-designed platform (the old tiles were still there then), and then moving over back into Holden territory again to get on a Central Line train. Although the 1980s panels are fun in their way, I miss the old designs.

This may have been a glorified advert for your new tour 😉 but it was a really interesting episode, one of your best 👍, and that is a high bar. It was interesting watching Secrets of the London Underground last week. I remarked on the difference in the dynamic between Siddy and Chris. It was certainly more of an Interviewer/interviewee dynamic but there was still a definite spark between two friends which people who don’t watch HLH wouldn’t spot. ❤️

Great episode. I have now watched all your episodes including the back ones and all are great and some are fantastic. But one you have not done and which is long overdue is Westminster. Back in the day before it was modernised I used it a lot. The way out from the District Line Westbound was past a wrought iron gate headed 'PRIVATE' in Victorian gothic script and there were railings through which one could see a passage and dort of courtyard beyond. This was a dedicated exit to the Houses of Parliament for those with authorized access to it such as MPs. It will almost certainly still be there as when I visited the Houses of Parliament with a former MP I found I could down on it from the internal escalator inside the House of Commons leading to Norman Shaw and the other buildings on the north side of Westminster Bridge. It brought back memories. I do hope you will do an episode on Westminster soon, It is intimately connected with the Houses of Parliament in all sorts of ways and there will be all sorts of hidden areas in connection with this including and among those abandoned .with the constuction of the Jubilee Line extension. Much new construction within the Houses of Parliament was done at the same time in in connection with it. It is part of our heritage. How about it?
@alexgrundon23462 ай бұрын
…planning it! And yea the MP entrance still exists. I used to use it quite often when I worked as a politics producer
