Indo-Sri Lankan Peace Accord was signed, only with the demand and consent of Sri Lankan Government to India. Rajiv Gandhi took the decision of sending IPKF to Sri Lanka, only upon persistent demand in writing by J R Jayabardane, who was then president of Sri Lanka. Rajiv Gandhi as a prime Minister, kept India's interest and safety at the top of all the issues. Pakistan is a confirmed enemy and harm India anytime which is a globally known fact, China on the otherside emerging a potential threat to India. Being in such a situation, Rajiv did not want to say no to Sri Lanka, as China would come forward, extending help to Sri Lanka. Rajiv did not want that to happen and so he helped, in order to have good foreign relations with the neighbour. Plus, IPKF was sent to Sri Lanka, only to avoid any possible clash between Sri Lankan army and LTTEs. IPKF never got involved into any battle, until Velupillai Prabakaran abducted and killed some of the senior officials, forcing India to withdraw troops from Sri Lanka. This led to the clashing between IPKF and LTTEs, wherein so many innocent civilians got killed. So, the entire situation was invited by the foolishness of Prabakaran and how Rajiv Gandhi is held responsible? Vaico accuses Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv took the right decision, based on the situation and position he was put into. Any person at Prime Minister's chair would have done the same thing Rajiv did. Further, this crook Prabakaran killed Rajiv Gandhi.. What happened as a consequence? Eventually LTTE was declared as a terrorist regime, lost support from India, became weak and defeated by Sri Lankan army. So, how it helped establish Ezam? Violance never helps. Killing or dying no sensible answer to any problem. Instead of killing Rajiv Gandhi, Prabakaran should have handled the situation more sensibly. Most of these guys have incomplete information of what exactly happened and keep accusing Rajiv Gandhi. Even during 1984 Sikh Riots in Delhi, people accused Rajiv Gandhi, even though crooks like H. K. L. Bhagat and Jagdish Tyler instigated Sikh Genocide. Rajiv Gandhi the best Prime Minister of Indian history. Sincere and true Indians always love and respect Rajiv Ji. He still lives in our heart and will live always. 🙏🇮🇳

Karthik R Venkatraman My view from other source below👇 To better understand how the Sri Lankan Civil War happened, you need to understand India’s role. During the early days of the Sri Lankan Civil War, the Cold War between the USSR and U.S was at the peak. During this, Sri Lanka had strong relationships with the U.S. India however, had strong relationships with the USSR. Sri Lanka being a tiny island compared to India meant that India would presumably have the major influence in that region. India did not like the fact that the puny island below them was influenced by the Americans. This is why they started to train Tamil Separatist groups to oppose the Sri Lankan government India had brought 5 different groups of Tamil Separatists for training. They were the People's Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) Eelam Revolutionary Organization of Students (EROS) Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) The purpose of this was to create friction with the Sri Lankan government. India wanted to take advantage of the ethnic conflict to try buy influence in Sri Lanka. The goal was to get the Sri Lankan government to ask for military help from the Indian government, which would indicate that India has a say in the affairs of Sri Lanka. This plan had almost succeeded actually. India had control over what the PLOTE, TELO, EPRLF, EROS did. They told them what to do, and what not to do. However the problem came when the LTTE refused to listen to India. The LTTE leader knew what India’s real plan was, so he had taken his group of soldiers and went back to Sri Lanka. At this point, the LTTE had weapons and some manpower. This was the beginning of Eelam War I. The stage of fighting that took place between 1983-1987. India’s original plan had failed, however they tried something different. In 1987, India had sent it’s IPKF force to fight the LTTE to try gain the support of the Sri Lankan government. This plan failed miserably however since IPKF was unable to defeat the LTTE, and ended up losing 1200 soldiers. Rajiv Gandhi being the PM at the time, saw his political career take a downward turn, since his foreign policy in Sri Lanka had been an utter failure. Eventually the IPKF withdrew from India from the request of the Sri Lankan president, and India had gained absolutely nothing. the LTTE was the main reason that their plan had failed, which is why Rajiv Gandhi did not support them. Eventually he was assassinated by them. To sum up why Rajiv Gandhi did not support the LTTE The LTTE were the only ones out of the 5 groups who did not listen to Indiathe LTTE had killed thousands of IPKF soldiersThe LTTE had destroyed his political reputation back in India
