She is such a delight on the ice...every move is beautiful and meaningful, unlike many empty skating machines; lu chen the best for me, ever

That Australian judge should never ever be allowed to judge again. That 4.9/5.3 mark was an insult to the firgure skating sports!

Absolutely the most artistic skater I've ever seen! The way she uses her arms is just amazing! May have deserved at least one Olympic gold medal and 2 world championships. Her 1996 and 1998 world championship performances were epic!!

There are good skaters and there are very good skaters like Lu Chen with extra artistry. She puts her soul in every move she makes.

There has never been a skater that has come close artistically to Lu Chen. My Opinion, she is superior.

wow, that was gorgeous. really enchanting skate.

Holy wow!!! Okay, she's officially become one of my favorites. :) Sheeeeeeeee....is beyond a beautiful woman skating, but kind of redefined some of the spins for me. I love this program and her 1995 world long program. Should've medaled higher, methinks...

Tara's jumps showed incredibly poor technique. Even her signature 3-3 loop was under rotated and wouldn't get by in CoP today. She managed the rotations by being short and light enough to get around. Had she ever grown up while still skating, her technique would have needed a major overhaul. Chen has it all over Tara in presentation, as well.

u gotta hand it to david wilson... his choreography of this music, or shall i say parts of the music he chose carried through yuna was exquisite and just right

seriously though, why weren't they expelled from being a judge after the evening?

I love this song, I'm not very into skating but I think the girl is great. Did she win?

@mlc2005 Along with only a 3T out of the steps and travelling spins. Her presentation from rest of program helped her stay in contention for the podium. Scott Hamilton is correct in another program (I think her 98 Oly LP), she is the only one in this competition that could compete w/ Michelle Kwan when Michelle skated her best, which she didn't here, which allowed Tara to win.

@mlc2005 She was slow????? Are you out of your mind?

Scores should have been 5.4 technical 5.8 artistic
@tattoofixerstattoosАй бұрын
5.8 artistic maybe but the technical merit in this program was really weak and does not merit a 5.4. I did not even think the 4.9 was as out of line as some others did, 5.1 or 5.2 was about right honestly.

@serenakicksass About Irina...my issue w/ her in her presentation is she was NEVER polished. Yes only Tara has beaten a clean Kwan, although Kwan skated far from her best and Tara needed both 3-3 to do it (I count the 3T-1/2lo-3Sal as a 3-3
@serenakicksass13 жыл бұрын
@1andonlyCobra yes I agreee but it still is a huge feat to beat a clean Kwan in a major event. Nobody else has managed it. Sltuskaya had a chance to do sometimes but she isnt the nerveless competitor Tara is. My only point is Tara deserves credit. Chen also failed to beat a clean Kwan at the 96 Worlds even with her best performance ever. If you compare Tara to Chen, Chen is better artistically but Tara is much stronger technically.

This was really one of her weaker programs, actually. It doesn't flow as well as it could and is pretty bare in terms of actual choreographic content. Her Long Program is the masterpiece, not this one. She only deserved 4th place for the SP, the judging was correct.
@tattoofixerstattoosАй бұрын
I would have maybe had her 5th behind Bonaly. Bonaly deserved a higher elements score for sure, but the presentation score might have pulled Bonaly ahead. And it was a crime Bonaly's fine skate was placed below Slutskaya with a double lutz-double toe combination in 6th, that was pure politics at its worst.
@metsdudenj12 жыл бұрын
Love her, but the lutz was cheated
@mlc200514 жыл бұрын
4.9 was way too low, but if you compare this to most of the other skaters, particularly Kwan, Tara and Maria, and even Irina, she was MUCH slower. That probably showed up in the low tech marks.
@serenakicksass13 жыл бұрын
@1andonlyCobra Irina was never polished but at her best she was better than Tara. Much bigger jumps, better spins and footwork, more energetic and spunky presentation, faster and better skating skills. However Tara was a much stronger competitor in big events than Irina was. Chen was a beautiful skater but her spins were pathetic, and got worse as her career went on, her jumps barely rotated or were underrotated, and were telegraphed. That is why she wasnt a gold contender anymore by 98.
