So this is a long video. I got up early on a Saturday morning to be able to travel the full length of the green line because after a certain time in the morning the trams from Broombridge only go to Sandyford. It took me from 08:30 in the morning from when I left Broombridge to 11:30 when I got back to Broombridge so it took me 3 hours! Sit back, relax and enjoy.

However, people who learn and speak the language of their country of residence should be more than welcome and, let's face it, workers are very important for economy. On the other hand, colonists, occupants or simply dumb folks who never integrate and don't respect that country, should be kindly sent back to where they or their ancestors came from. You may also know that the section of the line from Charlemont to Sandyford and most of Carrickmines to Cherrywood travels along the former Harcourt Street line to Bray as well. In fact, the station buildings at Carrickmines, Stillorgan (which is past the Sandyford Luas stop) and it’s pumping station, Dundrum, the Nine Arches Viaduct, and Harcourt Street station are still there.

For anyone interested in the Luas system, I saw Tram No. 5021 in Dundrum @ 54.6m - four span sections instead of three - (a Citadis 402 converted to 502). Trams No. 5001 - 5026 are all due for conversion starting this year. Seven new Citadis trams of 54.6m in length (502) were introduced in 2018 (5027 - 5033) with another eight due in 2020 (most likely 5034 to 5041).

I just wish they would extend the LUAS all the way past the Gibson Hotel/02 Arena up to the Irish Ferries/Stena Terminals at Dublin Port (North Wall) as getting from and to Dublin Connolly/Busaras is a real hassle - I travel on SailRail from Manchester via Chester and Holyhead and I’ve got family in Dunshaughlin Co Meath so this would make a huge difference

They should also extend the Luas to Rathcoole, Blessington, Foxrock, Bray and Enniskerry. I hear there’s talk of extensions to Poolbeg and Charlestown, but seriously we need more tram and railway lines in this country.

@@joshuaW5621 in all my 21 years of visits home to Ireland on SailRail from Holyhead, I’m wondering the same thing too, even if there is a DART to Bray & Greystones - there are freight lines around Dublin Port that could easily have passenger trains on them, as they have already proven is doable with commuter trains using the Phoenix Park Tunnel - their mismanagement has also seen poorly designed bridges that cannot raise for ships, that even if the Liffey channel was properly dredged, it still would not allow foot passenger only ferries and seaplanes to sail further up the Liffey as far as the Custom House - they have also (again) shelved the high-speed rail tunnel under the Irish Sea from Holyhead to Dublin to complement HS2 here in the U.K., even though the rail infrastructure here in Manchester is a disaster - a dedicated high speed rail line across the North of England to connect Hull, York, Leeds, Manchester and Holyhead to connect the ECML to the WCML is also essential

@@michaeljohndennis2231 yeah Ireland’s transport system sucks. It’s so bad, Dublin Airport doesn’t even have a rail connection at the moment. Construction was due to start last year, but after being delayed by Covid I don’t even know the new date for it. When will it start?

The thing I love about in this vid is the announcement it’s so funny. Also I’m playing a gane on the luas where I an getting on and off and my mom dosen’t want to play with me cis she thinks that it dosen’t make sence but it DOES wierd. I was on the Luas before. My only route was from Marlbrough to Kilmacud. I was never to Broombridge or Bride’s Glen. By the way I am planning to to go to Bride’s Glen and to Broombridge but due to the virus there’s a 5km limit so I don’t want to go there until the virus is over. It’s quite scary for the people living near Charlemount and Ranalegh Luas. You never know the luas might fall.

Thank you, Daniel. Your videos (I include your video of the LUAS Red Line) were very helpful. My wife and I are returning to Dublin in March, 2022 - this will be our 11th trip to the Emerald Isle and after watching your recordings have decided to devote a day to riding both the red and green lines from beginning to end. If you don't mind a few questions from an American who is 47% Irish ... (1) Once you reach the terminal end (be it The Point or Brides Glen), do you need to disembark and reboard the LUAS or can we remain seated for the return trip? (2) The point of transition between the Green & Red Line appears to be at Marlborough, correct? If we are getting off the Green Line, where do we walk to to get on the Red? Is Abbey just around the corner?? (3) To see the Guinness Store and Brewery, do we get off the Red Line at James? (4) is the pass we buy good for all day and both lines or for only one line and one ride? Thanks again for taking the time to record these rides. You're a gem. Slainte' from Portland, Oregon.

Thank you for your very insightful comment! (1) When you reach the terminus at Brides Glen you can normally stay on the same tram and take it back. But when it gets to Broombridge after coming back from Brides Glen or Sandyford, it sometimes goes into the depot and another team comes in and takes its place. (2)Yes the Red Line cross over the Green Line at the Abbey Street/Marlborough Street. (3) Abbey Street Luas Stop is about 100m away from Marlborough Luas Stop, around the corner. (4) As far as I know there is a ticket you can buy from the ticket machine that allows you to travel on both lines in every zone.

@Elliott Temp How kind of you, Elliott. Yes, my friend, we enjoyed our time in Dublin (a trip that included Tullamore and Donegal). The only disappointment was contracting COVID our first day there. I'll spare you the details, but it was inconvenient. Given the requirements (at that time) to test negative prior to returning to America, because we were both COVID positive, we remained in Dublin 10 more days than we planned for. So we took full advantage of walking to such beautiful places as Phoenix Park and the Botanical Gardens. Each and every day, we found our way to the most beautiful park on planet Earth: St Stephen's Green. When I die, that is where I want my ashes spread. I can hardly wait to return. Next time, however, I'll likely be doing it alone. My wife (of 47 years) has stage 4 lung cancer. There is no cure. Our trip in March 2022 was based upon the realization that we did not know how much time Cindy had. We knew that the risk of contracting COVID was high, but it was a risk worth taking. I'm glad we did, because next time I come, I will likely do it alone.

After riding on Manchester’s Metrolink system, I found the Dublin cars very cramped. The Manchester cars are 2·65m wide, whereas Luas cars are only 2·40m, and how some of the drivers fit in the cabs of the Luas cars, I don’t know, I’m 1·80m tall (5' 11" in old measurements!) and I could hardly move when I was offered the chance to sit in one.

@12:20 - that junction is a joke - there's no reason the tram couldn't be let through there the moment it arrived - similar situation a year ago when I rode the new Cross City myself - couldn't understand why we weren't getting priority at the same junction - O'Connell Street (right parallel thereto) was much better in it's traffic management and hence, much quicker for the trams (back then and in this video). This fault is nothing IMO to do with the tram system - it's general traffic management.
