Luca is proof that Pixar can make an amazing movie even from a concept which seems more simple than their other films. But it's just so wholesome and heart warming, it really doesn't feel simple in a bad way. Glad you enjoyed it, and good luck for your exams!

A little curiosity The songs in the movie are all songs really famous here in Italy, and they're specifically from the 70s Like "il gatto e la volpe" of Edoardo Bennato the song from the trailer, and "Fatti mandare dalla mamma" of Gianni Morandi that plays when Luca sees the Vespa The movie is pretty accurate on how life is in little tows here in Italy, except bullies😂, well sometimes 🤣

Ngl, this is may be one of PIXAR's simpler films, but it's also one of their most well-made. Not to say that this is _the_ most well-made. I can name a few others they've created that can top this. But this film is definitely top tier, or at the very least, close to it (in my opinion anyway). Comes to show that you don't need an overly complicated lore or a super logically and scientifically accurate plot and concept to make a story work. Sometimes getting creative and sticking with something a little more simple and fun is better. ☕

After two viewings, Luca became my favorite Pixar movie (I’ve now seen it over 20 times). The way the characters were written and portrayed as well as the themes and messages really spoke to me. For example, Giulia’s family situation (split family and feeling like an outsider in a different city when going to visit your other parent) and how it was treated by not making it a big deal like it is in so many pieces of media. This is something I’ve basically been dealing with for my entire life and it felt nice to have it be recognized that not all families are perfect but that just because they’re not doesn’t mean they can’t work. Luca’s curiosity and drive to learn more about the world around him also really resonated with me. And I see him in the end going to stay in the human world while balancing and accepting his differences as a loose metaphor for immigration. My mom and dad are German immigrants to the U.S and my step mom is a Colombian immigrant and they all still have lots of family in their respective countries. While I’m in the U.S and have to figure how to balance my cultural heritage and family with the ideas and culture of where I live. I was also kind of the outsider/weird kid in school too and the trio friendship setup is almost the same with the friends I had in grade school (and still friends to this day) so it was nice to remember that. The movie’s way of portraying acceptance and talking about it also helped me to do some introspection of myself and helped me to acknowledge and accept the fact that I’m asexual. Luca may be a simple movie plot wise but the profound way it has affected me and the time it’s come at the end of a major cycle of personal growth (graduating high school, starting college, reconnecting with my mom’s side of the family and restoring a line of communication that had been broken for almost 15 years, losing several friends and family members, surviving a pandemic) has solidified it as one of my favorite movies of all time.

Hello Sophie (Greek: Wisdom), I agree: It is a good movie, strong storylines, also between the lines. [These are my two cents.] Greek - As you yelled that out my boyfriend was shaking his head - clearly it is Italian. Then I reminded him the cultural/historical connection between Greece and Italy. So I didn't fully faulted you there. The Greek Empire that lead to the Roman Empire - which in their own origin myth link their ruling blood to Greek myths, which are "Romanized". This part will stay important as back-ground information. {Let me point a few things out if you'd like, you can check the information I give you, also the one on the Frog Princes, with the source "the frog prince".] 1. It's an "original" story which is common for a Pixar movie, Luca & Alberto, but it also is Disney owned. (But inspiration/muses where still used.) BRUNO - SILENCIO; can be good, can be dangerous as well. Can also be a form of "cancel culture" and Freedom of Speech. (Why people didn't react well to it.) And also part of the narrative between the lines. In my honest opinion. You, already had the Encanto link, yourself as well. We don't talk about Bruno, similar vain of narration. Who is Bruno? Well is there a famous Bruno (historically) linked to being silenced, ignored, not spoken about? Giordano Bruno is what pops to mind, with me. "A martyr for science". He was an Italian Dominican friar, philosopher [philo-sophia=love wisdom], mathematician, poet, cosmological theorist, and Hermetic occultist. Born in 1548, and burned at the stake for heresy by the Spanish Inquisition, on February 17, 1600. He believed stars where like suns and other solar systems, and we were not the only solar system. Which was not the permitted belief at that time. He believed the earth moved around the sun, which was also not what The Church told at that time. He also believe the earth was a living being with a soul. (I believe he was right there also, in a way. But The Church also didn't like that idea.) Very interesting person in human history, and a very tragic story of "cancel culture" aka Religious wars, censorships. Why also so relevant in modern times/now days. So with Encanto's Bruno - it being a "Spanish"/"Latin"/Columbian story, Luca is an Italian story. The Spanish Inquisition. There is a statue of him in Italy at the place he was executed; Campo de' Fiori, in Rome. Defiantly facing the Vatican. A martyr to Freedom of Thought! Inscription at the base: A BRUNO - IL SECOLO DA LUI DIVINATO - QUI DOVE IL ROGO ARSE. To Bruno, the century predicted by him, here where the fire burned. PS he was not the only victim others have burned at that square also, and in multiple other places. Hypatia of Alexandria was a victim of Christians as well; labeled a heathen witch and torn to pieces in 415. Just to point out some fact of history, and religion(s). 2. As you pointed out: acceptance - stay true to yourself - connect with others - let go - [also very LGBTI+ in reading] But also with the Bruno connection made. Also here the: Stars/Fish - Solar system. But this also ties in with Moana/Viana, and religious/cultural history; Planetary Gods, etc. Wayfinding, astrology/astronomy. 3. Learning & education vs ignorance / biases & prejudges Okay, here goes... I don't want to say mermaids/-men/-people don't exist, but the Lore's, myths, fairytales, stories about them actually connect on different levels with humanity - blue bloods - and Anunnaki myths, and also the cradle of civilization and Mesopotamia. Which all religions since agricultural times seem to source from. Göbekli Tepe. The mermaid logo of Starbuck - is from Greek mythology, Melusine, but the design is from the Luxembourg and the Royal family/Count Siegfried. This lineage of being a descendent of makes them the born rulers. Blue Bloods. Like the Anunnaki myths. 4. Italy & Vespa's, almost as symbiotically connected to the culture like pasta's, and things ending on an A sound like Luca. Alberto is a different side of the story, and his father most likely didn't abandon him, but is dead; A thing in every Disney movie - because it is important to expose children to this fact of life. Walt lost his mother as a child and he was not prepared and traumatized by that. A killed sea-monster by the land-monsters. That is what most likely happened to the father of Bruno. Again this demonizing labeling is a thing most "minorities" have had experiences with. And we also do it vise versa to each other. 5. Fish herding, like sheep or goat herding, that was Lucas "job" at home. Also alike the Southern European culture. But also keep in mind the Taurus/Bull symbolism and meaning for Europe, and its identity and history. European aka "Bull" faced. Europa Greek mythology, and the Bull. Also no you didn't get his fish-herding job. As with humans and our meat; mammals eating mammals. So maybe a little point - fish eating fish? Jesus was a fisherman/herder of souls. Also he was killed by homophobia and not saved with the pasha tradition in Jewish culture but Jesus Barabbas was given that freedom as a multiple murderer - why was Jesus not? Just earlier as he came to Jerusalem he was honored with palm leaves as the messiah, people flocked to his teaching; sermon on the mount. With the multiplying of bread. And why he got in trouble the first place with the Jewish authorities was the Temple cleansing. Anti-capitalism in the house of the Lord/God. Also the Pontius Pilate would not have washed his hands in innocence and left if to the judgement of the Jews - if he was seen as "A Son of God", that would make him like Caesar - a demi-God, the equal to the Emperor. Also in the biblical story it states JC saying he was not the son of God, just a man. And others kept insisting he was the Son of God. Then we have the Judas Kiss, in the garden outside the city gates with naked men running around, we all know what a cruising area is. In the book it says he loved his disciples, washed their feet, which can also be a sexual coding, and kissed them, also on the mouth. Jewish religion and especially at that time was/is very homophobic. So FREEDOM, of Thought, of Speech; a battle as old as time itself, so it seems now days. Cultural amnesia. Also it is pre-Euro so in Italy this was the Lire which was the least valuable coin/valuta in Western Europe/not worth much - I mean you had bank notes from 1.000 up to 500.000 Lire Back in the day a simple soft ice-cream cone would have costed more than the Vespa in the movie with 9.000 Lire. If not mistaken at least 50.000 Lire for an simple ice-cream back in the days. Why can't we be friends

How it was like to survive back in the day before modern medicine . also books and family help of course my grandpa/Mushum told me all about residential schools, and how life was before they came to our land. Native people could survive I mean our numbers started dropping when the whites came to this land. Like if they didn’t come just think about how life would be today more natives, our language and culture would have continued, OUR WAY of life wouldn’t have changed .🧡 If they didn’t come to our land spread diseases and try to brain wash us natives by not letting us learn our history.
