I *used to* think that... until more recently I started thinking "Who will preserve our traditions? Who will tell the stories of our ancestors?" STEM won't write our history and tell our stories. It may not seem important, but if we only have doctors and engineers and leave the arts/humanities subjects to "other folk", in 200 years the school text books will say that there was no slavery and black people "immigrated" to the USA because we wanted to be workers on the plantations. Hip-hop was started by Eminem and Elton John. Michael Jackson will be the greatest white entertainer in history - after all, his kids are white so the family tree from here on is gonna look very different to what it did in 1970.
