I think that what Vader was seeing was anakins worst fears. Losing Padme and that he was the product of Palpatine all along. With how powerful Palpatine was he could have even manipulated what Vader saw to further anger vader and make him more powerful but still keep him under his boot

With episode 9 now out, and some time to consider just how terrifyingly potent of a manipulator Palpatine was. My personal head cannon is that he was either the source of Anakin's 'visions' about Padmé OR that he was purposefully cutting the visions short of the full picture. I think Anakin's visions of his mother were just his, but after he spoke to Palps about them, it would have been rather easy for him to mess with his mind. Looking at how deeply he screwed with ***'s head throughout his life, his toying with Anakin's emotions/conflict during his fight with Mace W by pretending to be too weak etc and of course 1-9 revealing the galaxy was just a stage that he played all o his puppets on. From the Jedi and the republic/senate to even the resistance vs the first order it all tied back to him pushing events around to weed out anyone who would stand against his 'Final' goal. Similar to the clone army, the first order in retro-spect is just another shield for his enemies to bash against w/o any loss to the Sith. Given all the examples we do see of his ability to manipulate, I think you're view is pretty spot on. Edit: a couple grammar changes.

I don't want to put any limits on Palps, the guy is basically the most powerful Force user we've seen in the entire franchise, but I sincerely doubt that he had anything to do with, or manipulated in any way, what Vader saw. Vader was in his newly-built fortress on Mustafar, specifically designed by the Sith version of a Force ghost Momin to focus the locus of the dark side that naturally occurred there, to basically create a portal directly into the dark side of the Force. He was literally INSIDE THE FORCE ITSELF. I do like that the Force was showing Vader Anakin's worst fears. That's such a dark side move.

Why would that be a fear of Darth Vader's? At what point has he ever had reason to fear this? This is the first time he sees this vision. And no one has told him that Palpatine might be his father. Nothing prior to this vision has indicated this at all. So why would this fear suddenly pop into his mind out of nowhere? Seems like a weird thing to fear when you have never had any reason to believe this. He might as well have seen a vision of Jar Jar Binks banging his mom. That would seem more fearful to me. This is just Matt Martin trying to undo canon because Rey is now a Palpatine.

In the comics you can see vader becoming the evil villain we all know and love but when it came to padme, he was still soft. I guess him discovering palpatine fabricated the entire “chosen one” narrative and manipulated his birth and life, would make him think “i was destined to be evil, theres no going back”. It's like if you had a vision that Hitler was your ancestor even though you have never thought of that before and suddenly you get this vision and now it is suddenly something you fear. The dark side doesn't show you random things that you would maybe or maybe not fear, the dark side only taps into fear that already exists within you or things that are already true. Luke saw himself as Darth Vader in the cave because he feared that he would turn to the dark side but also because Darth Vader was actually Lukes father. Rey saw herself as completely alone in the water cave when she wanted to know who her parents were because her fear was that she was all alone and that she came from nothing. In TRoS Rey saw herself as a Sith because she now realised she was a Palpatine and feared she would become evil as him. The dark side only taps into the truth of your fears not random scenarios that have nothing to do with reality.

Well what if it was “the force” that made Anakin to be the chosen one and sidious “sensed a disturbance” and he tried to counter what the force itself did to turn him bad. Essentially perhaps Sidious made a mutation in the medichlorine ( or however you spell it) that’s why anakins count was one of the highest ever! because of the force and sidious. It was a combined effort that was made. “The force” made Anakin but Sidious came and corrupted him while he was still developing in the womb. Or it could be that Sidious was trying to create life like his master and the result of that being an abomination against nature, like test tube babies, the force responded by making a chosen one to end this man career. Either way I personally see it, Palpatine/Sidious/the senate/Sheev had to be part of the anakin creation process in some way because it would make sense that “the chosen one” destroy that man/thing that did this unnatural thing. I guess it could be interpreted that way, BUT that still leaves unanswered questions about Anakin's birth... for my head canon, it was either Plaigeus or Sheev who created him, more likely to be Sheev... On a side note, just because we see Shmi pregnant before Sheev shows up doesn't mean shit, he was probably always there manipulating the midichlorians, but WE could only see him when the comic wanted us to for dramatic effect.

The way I look at it is the Skywalkers were a tool of the force. Anakin was the chosen one, he brought balance to the force with the help of his son. Anakins grandson helped Rey prevent the Sith from returning, and throwing the force out of balance. The Skywalkers had served their purpose, so they were no longer needed. It is super sad, but fits the tragic theme.

The dark side is corruption of the force. That’s that Plageus did, and the force backfired on him and created Anakin-to restore the balance that was being corrupted and broken. The thing here is that the interpretartion of this comic as Palpatine creating Anakin by manipulating the Force would directly conflict with Shmi's words in the Phantom Menace about not knowing how she got pregnant and who was the father. If the comic was true, then why would it show Palpatine manipulating the Force on an ALREADY pregnant Shmi? To me, that's the most compelling evidence that makes me support this piece of news. Even though it would have been so cool if they instead justified it by saying that Anakin was in fact created by the Force itself as the true Chosen One (thus justifying Shmi's quote from TPM), but then "corrupted" by Palpatine (as shown here in the comic) and that's what caused his internal conflict between the Light and the Dark side, between his true destiny as a product of the Force and the corruption placed on his soul by the evil Dark Lord who tried to stop the prophecy from becoming true. It would have added a new layer of complexity on his already great character arc.

The son in the movie looked to be in his 30s in what would have been at least 20 years prior to the events of TROS (based on Rey's age). If my math is close, that would put his birth sometime prior to the beginning of the Empire. Of course then, why wasn't he force sensitive and why didn't Palps keep him under control...???

In my opinion the community did in fact overanalyze that scene, as well. Anakin's mother is already pregnant and it portrays how Palpatine had an interest in Anakin. Whether or not Palpatine knew of Anakin's existence during pregnancy is not important, they said themselves the Dark Side is an unreliable narrator. It's simply a symbol for him wanting Anakin. Also, I still really like the idea of Anakin being a balancer thrown into the ring by the force itself as a consequence of Plagueis' experiments.

I think when darth plagueis was “killed” it was really just a trick and palpatine was then possessed by him. Then out of that was also born a light side component known as anakin which is essentially just what was born of the force opposite the dark side to keep it in balance. That’s also why anakin has two kids, or offspring in general. His mind already made a choice to go to the dark side as seen in the tusken raiders camp. This caused the force to transfer the light into two children who are really one but separated so that power could not be lost or tempted to darkness and remain in balance.

Iker Medina Porras yet Palpatine wasn’t destroyed. He not only lived, he created Snoke and the first order and seduced Ben Solo and Snoke met and fought Luke, etc. So balance wasn’t restored at all. Because Sidious got right to creating what was destroyed, and was orchestrating everything just like the prequels. Call it ignorance on the republic and Luke for not sending Sidious to be alive, or convenient for Yoda or Anakin or Obi Wan to not come back and instruct Luke and Leia. But Luke says that he and Leia knew she was Palpatines granddaughter...so idk. Anakin didn’t really bring balance, because Sidious wasn’t destroyed. He survived. And the FO was being planned and constructed despite the the good guys not noticing and / or letting it happen with Snoke being the head frontier of it despite being a creation of Palpatine. I’d argue Disney has made Rey the chosen one since she supposedly destroyed Sidious. Because if we believe the force is an essence that guides and leads, it apparently was in the Will of the Force for Palpatine to live and survive and be placed in this sequel trilogy for Rey to be destroyed. Technically, Palpatine could be alive still. But since “skywalker saga” is over, I doubt they will ever bring him back, thus ultimately she was the finally boss for Palpatine to fight. So if she destroyed him...
