My family is from Barbados and I lived in Barbados for 6 months a couple years ago . The groceries will kill you if you shop at Massey and buy American brands. You save money by shipping at Jordan’s , Popular , the fish markets all over the island and getting your vegetables from Cheep side market. Buying anything that is American or British comes with a price. If you stick to brands of detergent, condiments and the like that are local or imported from neighboring counties, you will save money. For example, buying Heinz ketchup in Barbados can cost you $ 20 or more. Buying the equivalent Trinidadian brand can be a few dollars.

Is it a possibility that you and your husband can stay at hotels when you are traveling and use the points system? I love your channel.
@LucasWorldTravel4 ай бұрын
We’re considering that. We’re not experts at using points though. And honestly I find hotels uncomfortable after more than 5 nights.

Most Bajans ( I'm one), I am sure have not been to most places of interest because they aren't ever affordable, unless there is a local special.

Wow, how sad! And it’s not even affordable for tourists either. 😔

Great info! Did you have internet throughout the whole island?
@LucasWorldTravel3 ай бұрын
We didn't have trouble getting mobile coverage throughout the island. Our wifi at the house was a little slow, but manageable.

I can't believe how much more affordable healthcare is in other countries it's sad that in US we pay ridiculously for healthcare and it not be half as good food is expensive in US to groceries are ridiculous hear just as much as eating out the housing cost per month is similar to US definitely would pick another island to live on but I think any Caribbean Island is gonna be more expensive than many European or Asian countries to live😊
@LucasWorldTravel4 ай бұрын
Agreed! It's a tragedy that healthcare in the US is so expensive. This is why we've gotten comfortable doing all of our medical care abroad.

I'd be curious to know which of the other Caribbean islands are more affordable, as you mentioned in this video. We're considering two weeks in Barbados in January, but really have no preference.as to which island we visit. I just don't want to pay unreasonably high prices for restaurants/groceries/attractions. I looked at the Virgin Islands, and they also sound rather pricey. Looking for really warm water as we do like to snorkel, and white sandy beaches ( so not really any volcanic islands). I'm going to check out your other videos as the one on Barbados was enlightening!

I highly recommend Curacao then. It was our favorite island and the most affordable. Check out the full playlist here. kzbin.info/aero/PL6WgaSma-oe2aJaDRIJ71qPuAoTHAwZO3&si=0M3QHJdWgensIUFW

Hello, Considering Barbados for a January trip. Have you been to Mullins or Gibbes beaches? I read they are two of the best on the island.
@LucasWorldTravelАй бұрын
No, we haven’t heard of those beaches before. Check the reviews on Google maps to read more about them.

They’re nice very sweet but Carlisle Bay is superior. Mullins and Gibbs both in St Peter more north West Carlisle is city

That's cheap! Monthly living here in FL costs us $6-7k a month ! Groceries for 2 adults and 1 child are $1500-$1800 a month in FL.
@LucasWorldTravel2 ай бұрын
Wow! That is expensive! We can't even imagine as cost of living in Tennessee is a bit lower than Florida. It's still incredible to me that traveling full-time can actually be a cheaper lifestyle than living in some more expensive US cities.

are there any ferries from Barbados to her neighboring island country?
@LucasWorldTravel4 ай бұрын
No, there are no ferries. You would have to fly.

How was the WiFi reliability?
@LucasWorldTravelАй бұрын
Our wifi was slow but it’s hard to say if that was just our Airbnb host’s issue or an island wide thing. Although slow, the internet never went out though.

Although I’m sure it could be the fault of the cleaners I feel like any international homeowner who is renting out the property and not personally verifying somehow that it’s well cared for is really a scam artist..
@LucasWorldTravelАй бұрын
Yes, the property owner just hired a real property manager to take care of the place. It really was in bad shape when we arrived.

I am a Canadian with 14 years in Barbados for 2 months each winter. You have to SHOP !!! My groceries are the same price in both countries. I don't eat out at the EXPENSIVE restaurants. You can get the same meal or better from a small local vendor or food truck that you get a a named restaurant. A BIG fish meal that is 25-50 Bajan at a local can be 100 at certain restaurants. Local beer and rum very reasonable. Farmers markets for veggies and fruits. And if you can live on New Zealand white cheddar- you will survive !! ahahahah
