I say, buy a piece of land, it doesn't have to be acreage. A fair size lot is enough to grow your own and go off grid on your choice of island.

If you are only looking in kingston then ultimately, it will be more expensive especially if you are looking in the more affluent areas. If you widen out a bit, you will find more affordable accommodation.

The Dutch dependencies, Aruba, Bonair and Curacao are fairly cheap. mostly as a result of the awful climate. In Aruba I found 80F and 85% RH at dawn and, as the sun rises, it gets worse. Yes rain is common and this is year round, there is no respite.

Dominica is not that cheap. I lived in Portsmouth 2006-2008 and I paid $880 USD (That was one of the moderately priced apts) for a one bedroom, one bath and my grocery bill was closer to $400-$500/month. I am positive prices did not sharply decrease after approx. 16 yrs.

I wonder if you ever went to the carebean at all. Trinidad is much cheaper than Grenada in every aspect apart from alcohol prices. The ABC islands are generally very expensive compared to the windward islands. Dominica is great when you like fruits and vegetables but Grenada offer basically nothing home grown.

Very nice. I’m Jamaican living in the states too and I’m going to build a house in West Africa Ghana. A lot of Jamaicans and Americans have migrated there. Land is cheap very cheap. You can by a 2 bedroom house for under 50,000. Plus you pay them in there money currency and it works out cheaper.
