I don't "tear up..." I have far more emotional control than that; but I do very much enjoy listening to Mr. Pavarotti's voice when I want to hear opera, and I know his backstory as to how he became an opera singer. He'd be 87 years old if he was alive today.

I feel sorry for people who only know the fantastic Pavarotti! The other tenors singing in this concert weren’t capable of his level of singing, but to even argue that Pavarotti was the greatest tenor of all time shows such a paucity of information that i dk even know how to deal with it! Pavarotti’s IS one of the greatest tenors, but there are so many others who were great, so how can that be the statement after listening to ONE ARIA?? And this isn’t even his best performance of “Nessus Dorma,” lol! I’m sorry, but I’ve been listening to opera and studying voice for 5 decades, so my perspective is from the exact opposite side of the spectrum!

Luciano Pavarotti was THE Tenor of all tenors. It's just like you said... His voice takes you to another place and in that place, everything is beautiful. There will never be another one like him. His version of "Nessun Dorma" is it for me. No one else can come close to it.
@voraciousreader33413 ай бұрын
May I ask how many operatic tenors have you listened to?? Have you heard of Enrico Caruso?? He figured out the same technique Pavarotti used, called “bel canto” (Italian, means “beautiful singing”), but Caruso never cancelled a performance because he was so confident in his technique. Pavarotti was famous for cancelling concerts, usually chalked up to illness, but if he wasn’t confident that he could “find” his technique before going onstage, he would cancel….it is an incredibly difficult, even freak-out inducing, way to sing. But there were other tenors who may not have had the gorgeous instruments Caruso and Pavarotti were born with, but they used the same technique and elicited the same visceral response from the audiences….they went wild! Leontyne Price, the great soprano, once had to stand onstage for *40 MINUTES* after singing an aria because the audience couldn’t stop applauding! And this happened many, many times with other singers, with Pavarotti’s idol Giuseppe di Stefano being one of them….he actually had to go back onstage to repeat arias after a long first ovation because the audience wouldn’t allow the opera to proceed until he did!

@flav2689 Жыл бұрын
No, not really in general. The reason it was exceptional for him because of his age and heslt issues. People had been talking that his career would be over soon - media was sinply cruel. All the headlines and nasty interviews about his weight and so on. And the next year he did this - showed everyone how stupid they were. He probably was surprised he did _this_ well - it was the same way he sang in his absolute prime at the 70s and the 80s. He showed he was still able to do it. Which is very rare. The age usually slowly ”destroys” the opera singers voice (the muscles etc)

Never interrupt what you are listening to for the first time. A piece of music or an opera aria has an arc, which you cut up in such cases and the effect will be much worse. You are depriving yourself of an experience that is whole, fascinating and liberating for the soul. I'm 70 years old and I've been going to the opera since I was 8 years old, but to this day I still get tears in my eyes from this aria and it's in front of me when I first heard it as a child. It wasn't Pavarotti who sang it then, but Puccini's music is eternal and fascinating.

As Humanity comes to grips with an Awakening, may I add that 'Nessum Dorma' means 'No-One Sleeps' this is from the great Opera 'Turandot' and speaks of a 'battle'. The last three phrases in the crescendo of this amazing Aria are these...'I WIN...I WIN...I WIN'...this...is TRUE talent..a gift from God imho. I'm nearly 70 and tear up listening to this...every time. I grew up on this type of music and I'm deeply grateful that I did. This wonderfully uplifting music should help your depression enormously...all the best.

I knew about him but never heard this piece until I was indulging myself in a Romcom with Mark Harmon called Chasing Liberty. It was a close copy of another movie (First Daughter) with a similar plot line. The last 1/2 of the movie dragged until this aria was played. Obviously Pavarotti wasn’t in it but it was so beautiful I had to look up the music for the movie and found this. Naturally I had to listen to it and after that I was hooked. So I kinda had to thank Harmon for that. I always enjoyed NCIS and when I saw he was going to be in it I had to rent it.
