I'm just floored that she sang like that with pneumonia. I think that is why she abbreviated her last note which she would normally hold a lot longer. she is a true warrior. And the sweetest person you will ever meet.

I'm Korean, I've been a fan of Sohyang for a long time, and I went to many concerts myself. If you listen to it in person, you'll feel 100 times more touched. I was so shocked that I had a headache. This broadcast was 5 to 6 years ago, but Sohyang was really sick, so she tried to quit with that song and sang it with all her might. I haven't sung for 2 years and after recovering, I started promoting again 1-2 years ago at the request of fans.

LUV it !! You'd be surprised to know that she came out of the hospital to sing it because she had the most serious pneumonia since survived from cancer. If you look closely at her tongue, can see that the whole tongue is inflamed by pneumonia. Nevertheless, how beautiful an angelic voice is~!! It seems possible for God to be with her. Happy to see channel is starting to blow up, I've been making most of my Netflix gift card over the weekend (also watching Korean drama Sohyang did OST for) and checking now - boom 160 comments :D ! I must address how much I love this arrangement, which also gives a nod to original "You Raise Me Up" by Secret Garden, half Norwegian-half Irish duo. I can definately feel those influences here. This is magical performance and the fact she was so sick makes it even more special, given the message of the song and Sohyang's faith. She's been singing "You Raise Me Up" for over 10 years beautifully but here the lyrics gain even more weight than normally. I think I can hear a bit of problem in her breathing quite early in the song, after the intro part, when we can hear her taking breaths but then she kicks off and it's not audible. Amazing. It's beyond my idea/knowledge how she managed to sing like this for nearly 7 minutes, with pneumonia, but it's credit to her ability and maturity as a singer and also to know how to arrange it, to be able to perform it in such condition.

SO glad you reacted to Sohyang's 2018 You Raise Me Up. Your comment of "I can feel her" really summed it up for me about Sohyang's music. There are a number of elements to admire about about performance: musically the arrangement is simply creative and outstanding; the vocal control of Sohyang is other worldly. With the heart and soul injected by Sohyang into the performance - there are few that I know can be comparable in its impact. The spirituality and sincerity of Sohyang's music glues all the technical elements together to create a masterpiece. I always like to include in my comment what Sohyang said in the intro before this performance in 2018. This song tells her personal story. I believe it comes through loud and clear. Thank you for your heart-felt reaction. Let me put in another recommendation worthy of your time with Sohyang's cover of Everyone. She said that this is the hardest song for her to prepare. The point is that I understood her potential and I already expect great things but each time she posses me and also I cannot stop watching her videos again again!!! It's like a drug to me now!! She is teaching me a lot in this days! I am so lucky to had the chance to know her while I was only searching a new version of Oh Holy night to sing.. then I found her.. Another great reaction. It's so nice to relive these performances of Sohyang with you. I'm looking forward to when you get to her Mask Singer performances from 2017. That's when she reached her peak as a singer IMHO, showing her ability to perform various styles of song and making each one absolutely bewilderingly good. (Just be sure to watch them on Vimeo, a lot of reactions were spoiled by using clipped videos from KZbin which don't show the whole performance)

Yes, I agree. Her best performances are those of King of the mask singer (as a whole though, because some performances out of that competition are also that good or better than some of them like "fate" or "arirang alone"). So I too am looking forward to when you'll react to "Breathe" or "Home".

Yep, Sohyang is a big fan of Mariah Carey. That's probably why we can glimpse every now and then her influence in Sohyang's performances. Sohyang also likes to use Mariah Carey's song to warm up before a performance or concert because of the songs' high degree of complexity. Nope ... that wasn't a typo. You read that correctly: Sohyang's concept of a vocal warm up is ... singing Mariah's songs ... for half an hour ... 😲 I shook my head when I watched that interview. Even during a casual interview, off the stage, not during a performance, Sohyang still manages to amaze me LOL. 🤣 Great video as always Coach Lucia. 👍
