GREAT review...I am leasing a Lucid Air Pure and agree with pretty much everything you had to say (especially the funky smartphone operation!). I do, however, like the retracting screen and do not have a problem with it (I usually retract it when night driving). I live in San Diego and my experience with the sales people was incredibly good so I guess it just depends on your location. I also thought the delivery experience was great and my one experience with the mobile service tech was super good (he actually worked for Tesla for several years and we also had a great discussion on where Lucid is heading). All in all, it has been a very positive experience and the OTA updates have been coming out pretty regularly. Because of the probable significant depreciation, I would also recommend looking into a lease. I will look forward to your Gravity review!

As we have just witnessed, the Tesla which is 'new to the industry' HAS vastly improved with the 'Highland' Model 03. 2022 Air GT owner. Most of your cons are personal preference, and really do not represent what everyone will agree with. I'm 6'9" and I get into the car differently than you do, and I do not have any issues. I like the clam shell back, but my wife doesn't...Again personal preference. I do agree with your gripe regarding the placement of the window controls. So many times I'm controlling the rear window when I think I'm controlling the front windows. Very frustrating. A lot of the issues you mention I have never experienced, head light whine...never once have noticed it. Only been flashed twice. Blinker sound...never happened to me nor many of the other things you complained about. When I discuss the car to people who are thinking about getting one, I tell them it is by no means a perfect car, and point out the design issues I think were not thought of correctly. The hidden compartment, I always say it is a gimmick that is cool to show off, but I never use that space because it is a pain in the ass to get to it. Opening the glove box. Cool the first time you use it, pain in the ass every time after. So, I want them to improve, and be successful, but at such a high purchase price, it isn't for everyone. For me it was all about range, and the uniqueness of the car on the road, coupled with the ride / luxury and presentation of the car. I've had this car for just over 2 years, and honestly have only ever seen 3 others on the road. I like that. The charging IMO is a disappointment on any Hyper Charger, that it doesn't stay at or above 300KW for longer, and it does charge fast, could be so much better if they tweeked a few things on their charge controller, which I have mentioned but other than hearing "those are great ideas" never seeing them implemented. My Air GT is a special out on the town vehicle / date night with the wife car. I'll never transport luggage or anything that could mare the interior, and will try to keep it special for as long as I own it. I have enjoyed all of your tests on this car, and for the most part agree with some of what you say. I'm by no means a fan boy, but will correct any reviewer when they get the information wrong. Fingers still crossed on the chip upgrade, last report, they are still undecided whether they will do it or not. I have heard that less and less is being put towards the older units since the Gravity is about to go live. So not looking forward to being a second class owner with the flagship product that will not be supported like I think it should. Good Luck

You are absolutely correct about Lucid service. My 2023 Lucid GT was garaged on west coast of Florida. To get service 10 days after purchase, it required a flatbed truck to haul it a long distance to east coast. What a horrible experience. That issue was easily solved by replacing Lucid with EQS and service is only 6 miles away.
@blakespringpasturemortimer916819 сағат бұрын
@@johnpoldo8817 What was so horrible about having a car picked up in your driveway and returned to your driveway for service or repair? We live in Naples and have had excellent service from Lucid's mobile techs out of Ft. Myers and from the service centers in Riviera Beach and at the Miami Worldcenter over the three years we've had the car. Not once have I had to leave the house to get a service visit or repair handled. On the couple of occasions that the car needed to go to the east coast for service, Lucid dropped an Air Grand Touring loaner off even though we have two other cars and said we didn't need one. By contrast, if I need service on our Honda Odyssey, I have to make an appointment and work it into my schedule, take the car in to the dealer myself and, if the work is going to take more than an hour or two, I have to arrange a ride back home . . . and then repeat the process when the work is done. By the way . . . we've already ordered a Lucid Gravity to replace the Honda.

We have a 2021 Model S Plaid (replaced our 2015 Model S P90D). We have also had a Lucid Air Dream performance since December 2021. No comparison. The Air is much the better car in terms of ride, handling, room, comfort, luxury features, and build quality. (Our Plaid had developed body squeaks and groans in the rear quarters by 10,000 miles. With three times that mileage now, the Air is still rock solid.)

@@RealElectech Perhaps you missed the fact that we traded our 2015 P90D for a 2021 Model S Plaid (in September 2021), so I'm very aware of the differences. And it's the Plaid I'm comparing to the Air. However, I should note that our 2015 Tesla had better fit and finish than our 2021 Tesla. The Plaid had to have the driver-side outside mirror replaced as an internal screw was missing and it vibrated badly. The yoke airbag had to be replaced twice. A rubber grommet fell off a stud in the trunk lid. The PPF that was factory applied to the rear wheel wells was noticeably yellower than the white car. The front passenger door required a hard slam to latch. Pieces of interior brightwork were out of alignment. And within a year the "skin" was peeling off the yoke and the car had developed squeaks and groans in the rear quarters.
@RealElectechКүн бұрын
@blakespringpasturemortimer9168 guess I did miss that detail yes. My experience with the refreshed Model S has been much the opposite - everything holding up well after 3 years/30K miles. A couple creaks and rattles but nothing major at all, they did replace the peeling yoke for free with an improved model - all the first gen yokes had that issue. Otherwise it's been very solid, and a huge improvement to my pre-refresh Model S. I also had a 2020 prior to the 2022 and the build quality was horrible on that one, panels literally falling off the doors, all kinds of gremlins. Was yours built during COVID? Wonder if it's one of the ones they built outside in the tents in Fremont.

The Air handles better. And the Tesla's front end breaks loose under hard acceleration more easily than the Air's, thus make the Air's power more safely accessible. Fast charging equals faster battery degradation? Do OEMs that fast charge like Taycan just care less about degradation? Why don’t you guys talk about it? As an owner of EV I care much more about how much battery I’ll still have in a few years vs how fast it charges (5-10 minutes faster or slower) Just caring about speed and not longevity makes me feel like you guys view EVs as throw away appliances

The point should be made not to run cars out during these races, it's not a great look to the car, the manufacturer and the furtherance of the adoption. It ought to be part of your rules, 5 to 10% buffer is comfortable enough for proper charging, same way as not to drive above 10 to 15 miles above the speed limit, because here in the Great State of Texas or likely other States, it is considered excessive speeding, a misdemeanor charge and carries $500 fines and even jail time. However I enjoyed the Lucid content; Jordan's Washington trip was the highlight, especially those drone shots. Lucid Air is a beauty in person as I got to see it at Electrify Expo and lease deals on this thing are tempting. Too bad, I'm a truck enthusiast not so of a Sedan aficionado.

Too many compromises. Range and efficiency are great. (Aptera promises even better stats, but compromises even more). Lucid Hardware is great, but software stinks. This is where Tesla eats everyone’s lunch. I drive a fair amount for a retiree…25 k a year, with multiple road trips. Own Tesla MY and MX. A good size EV van with decent 300++ range with great software and supercharger infrastructure would be ideal. Not an option here in the states…so MX is it. FSD is not perfect and certainly not autonomous. However even in its current state, a superb tool. I use it 95 % of my driving time. Ironically the heated steering wheel was very important for me initially…now I hardly touch the wheel. Very frustrated with current autos: if lucky I have 20 more years of driving in my life- need more good choices outside of Tesla.

I have a hard time believing that Lucid will be around for very long - the Saudis are going to get fed up with the YUGE losses per car at some point, though the losses seemed to have improved to $155k per car down from over $200k in the q3 24 cash flow statement (still something is odd about the revenue #). Why anyone would buy a Lucid new is beyond me, they're like $50k off for a less than 1 year old vehicle. Kyle's rant about a Taycan or Sapphire as the 'best EV' is beyond ridiculous.....

Here’s what you need to know about self driving: #1. It will happen when and only when cars “talking to each other“ becomes standard on all transportation vehicles just like airbags and seatbelts, etc. (way more to this than meets the eye). #2. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me how great a product is (and I love what I see with this car), I could never buy a car from a company that doesn't have a viable business model. Not only is this car more expensive than most people can afford, Lucid is still losing $227,000 for every car they sell. I could not imagine stretching my finances to buy a car that may not be supported after the company is forced into bankruptcy. I wish they had a clear pathway to profitability, but I can't see it.

Wouldn't really think a car produced with minus 200% gross margin is especially impressive. Wouldn't really risk buying a car from a company that might not exist in a year because of those margins. We have a 2021 Model S Plaid and a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Performance, both on 21" wheels. At range testing in controlled conditions with the cruise controls set at 82 mph (a true 80 mph in both cars), the Model S gets 72-73% of its EPA-rated range of 348 miles. The Air gets 78-79% of its rated range of 451 miles. Thus, in real-world highway driving, the Air has over 100 miles more range than the Model S. Aerodynamic drag increases exponentially with speed, and EPA testing is not gaited to sustained high-speed driving. No one should expect to see EPA range figures at high speeds. However, when driving at those speeds, Lucid range easily exceeds that of any other EV.
@otm6462 күн бұрын
All this has done is show how little you know about aerodynamics. No other vehicle on the road has this type of drag optimization.

So way slower than a Plaid, no summon, no FSD, no rear entertainment screen, no rear hatch, poor ergonomics, buggy software, mediocre sound system, no NACS support and when it does get it only 45 kW limit on V3 (every current Tesla charger).... all for significantly more money. Yeah sounds great 😂
@blakespringpasturemortimer916819 сағат бұрын
We have a 2021 Model S Plaid (replaced our 2015 P90D) and a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Performance. Although the Plaid is technically a tick quicker to 60, its front end comes so loose under hard acceleration that the Air's power is more safely accessible. While the Air's software was initially a hot mess, the introduction of UX 2.0 and its progeny of OTA updates has now given us a car with a better overall control suite (the combination of screen controls with manual, tactile controls) than the Tesla, not to mention a birds-eye-view display, CarPlay, the ability to read a USB music stick -- all features missing in the Tesla. The Plaid developed squeaks and groans in the rear quarters by 10,000 miles. At 30,000 miles the Air remains rock solid. The Air also has a more compliant ride and better handling, as well as a quieter interior. And the Air's interior space is in a different league from the Plaid's. With the driver seat of both cars set to my preferred driving position, there is 9.5" more of fore/aft rear legroom in the Air than in the Plaid. In fact, if we are carrying rear seat passengers, we invariably leave the Plaid at home and take the Air. In fact, even if it's just one or two of us, we usually take the Air. It's just so much more pleasant a car to drive and to sit in.
