I have always wanted the option to spec a very long-range model. Another great place to show the importance of range is driving east across I-80 in WY in the winter. In fact, that would be a good test for you to head up to Cheyenne and over to Rock Springs in the winter. Short of towing I can't think of a tougher test for an EV in the US. An additional point is no one wants to wait in Laramie or Rock Springs with the winds howling why you charge.

thank you so much for showing/talking about the Quartzite issue. I brought this up a couple of years ago when everyone was saying that the ID4 was such a great road trip car.. I saw the writing on the wall in Quartzite. Tesla not only 32 superchargers in Quartzite but another 8 down the road in Ehrenberg, AZ. if you can't use the tesla chargers, you need a Lucid to get across the desert.. but when it's 122 degrees out there, you may want to crank on the AC

Longer range should mean less charge cycles and longer battery life. Also you should be able to charge at home more because of the longer range.

This is what we need more of, longer ranged vehicles. Think about when most people travel: for holidays. Specifically Christmas & Thanksgiving when you want to get there in time, but the charging stations will all be busy. Having the extra range means you can either get there in one go with stops for stretch & pee not limited to charger locations. Or for longer drives, or range limiting weather, skip the worst stops that will give you the longest delays.

NO chargers! range is $$ and hurts efficiency. we are ALREADY in a world where 0-80% is done is 12-14 minutes. teh CHARGERS are teh issue now.

You can get some pretty incredible range even with a Tesla Model 3 Performance. I got 218 Wh/mi for 209 miles with my M3P on 18” wheels and PZ4 summer tires while averaging 62.7 mph. That would be 362 miles on a full charge. Being able to disable regen with the S3XY buttons when coasting down hills helps with efficiency but drafting can make a huge difference as well.

@@LearningFast - NOPE, there is NO version of the Looocid air that is MORE efficient. it's , still too HEAVY . the air PURE is little lighter, as it has 50kwh battery removed, but is only 400 mi range like the Superior model S LR.

Heads up !!!! I would not recommend going below 10 miles of range I was left stranded 2 block from an electrify America charging station with 10 miles of range. Lucid would not help as far as a tow . And said they do not provide toes because of range problems, which I find unacceptable.

I still think the bigger range it has, the better. However, the charging speed is another topic. Comparing 2 cars with same charging speed, but one with shorter range, another one can go longer. You have a choice to not charge to full in longer range while you need to get as much as you can charge in shorter range. Especially if you go/live in somewhere infrastructure is not very EV supportive is brutal.

Now the test you need to do it’s difference in timing going fast and stopping to charge and no stops eco driving time difference (perhaps comparing it with a gas car) I traveled from SLC TO VEGAS ⛽️ & 🔋 and only saw in timing like 15 - 20 min advantage on the gas vehicle

This is my thing. Most ppl say you don't need 500 miles of range for road trips. My thing is, More range equal less charging equals less degradation to your batteries equals you can keep the car for longer equals you save money in the long run. I personally want 500 miles of range before I look at an EV. It will happen it'll just take time.

@@duramaxadventures5832 It doesn't have to. As Battery Technology increases the cost will shift down as they find more efficient ways to produce them. Also the potential of adding solar panels to the vehicles to add more range. I dont think its coming from Tesla anytime since Elon has stated he prefers smaller batteries. But Overtime We should be getting more range and prices should be set to accommodate more ppl as well. Im personally not looking at EV until the Range Amount I want is there and FSD is a Real Thing, out of Beta and on by default, 1000% working correctly. Those are my Criteria others might think differently and thats fine.

You guys are on to something in this video need more content showing actual trips you can do without using the infrastructure and showing how to charge at the hotels. Non stop trips are what people want and its especially helpful when not in a Tesla because of the infrastructure but even in a Tesla these would be preferred ways to trip non stop.

When you got to Phoenix hiw long did it take you to charge the lucid, and what kilowatt was it charged at. Also with Tesla opening up it's charging stations to non Tesla I don't think road trips will be a big problem.

I feel they're going to go overboard with the amount they're considering. Texas is $200/yr. Pennsylvania $290/yr

We get that next year here in the U.K.,EV’s will be charged an annual Vehicle Excise fee of £160pa - regardless of the EV battery size/ price of the car. Crazy thing is my sister has a 2016 Honda Jazz 1.4 and “because of it low emissions” it pays only £10pa………… go figure. I will be paying that £160pa on my Mini Cooper S E BEV………..which presently is zero VED rated because of its low emissions!

Many states already do this, I pay around $90/year in VA. They also charge any vehicle with an average MPG over 25 a fee that is variable depending on how high the rated MPG is.

Longer range>faster charging all day long. For me; driving to Cleveland and back for work I’d have to stop for a short charge in my Model 3. A lucid I wouldn’t have to. Charging at home only for probably 99% of my driving with that car.

Range is a handy tool all the time and quick charging is the only thing needed to supplement the journey if your lacking the total miles needed. To your point you just have to strategize the total infrastructure between A and B to minimize the fallacies of EA and others.🤷🏻 34:16

I consistantly get 470 miles of range (with the large wheels) on my 2022 Air GT, and normally charge up when I get to 40 mile left. Now that doesn't mean I don't get that 40, You still get it, you just don't use it cause you are charging.

I like my Model 3, but I don't like it when I'm driving 80mph in 19f weather and can only get 125mi on an 80% charge. The Lucid is probably the only EV that truly matches the ability of an ICE car to drive 80mph for up to 250mi in any weather on a single charge.

Still, range does only matter because the chargers are too scarce and the stations too small. I agreed when you said that charging is more important than range. But I mat add that range is a convenience, more than a need, if there were more stations. Do Tesla folks wait in line at a 10, 20 or 30 chargers station?

Lucid is pretty good if we compare the value per dollar but it is just ridiculous how expensive is it in Europe. In the US you can get one for 100k USD and in the EU the Grand I am comparing costs 166k EUR if you convert it it is 88k USD more.

Lucid GT & Model 3P owner here. Range is the most important criteria period! Lucid got it right. I most likely have the highest mileage privately owned Lucid Air on the planet with almost 30K miles driven and can say with confidence that having 516miles is incredible. We never have to charge at a DC fast chargers. It’s like trying to convince family/friends that EV’s are better. I can’t. You won’t know until you actually own one. Not sorry!

Lucid GT is way too expensive for a lot of people though. That's the only problem. That 516 mile range is great, but like Kyle said, the real world range is closer 430 miles. Still pretty darn good though. I'm also skeptical that Lucid will even be around in the next few years. What happens if they go under? I would be weary buying such an expensive car from a brand new startup that may, or may not be around in the future.

I agree having more range is always nice, but in a BEV that comes at a HUGE cost. We take 3 maybe 4 LONG road trips a year and I couldn't justify spending all that money for those 3 or 4 use cases. I'd rather have an efficient BEV tied to a great charging network. So I'm using the GRID as my storage battery. And being 70 we have to stop for BIO breaks well before our Model Y needs to. The difference in price is what $60K. I have better things to do with my retirement income.

I still think the most economical way drive electric is to buy a Bolt for your daily driving. Then, for faraway trips, fly somewhere closer to the destination and rent a Tesla to take you the rest of the way. While Tesla cars are expensive to own, they have actually become quite cheap to rent, with a model 3 now going for about the same daily/weekly rate as a compact gas car (even a model Y doesn't cost any more to rent nowadays than a gas powered SUV). You still get supercharger access on your out of town trips, and an airplane will carry you the really big distances much faster than any car ever will. But, instead of plopping down $40k for a model 3 (or, worse, $100k for a Lucid) for just driving around town, you can pay only $25k and be done with it. And the Bolt's 250 mile range is still enough to go to a lot of regional destinations without needing to CCS charge at all, as long as you have access to a home charger.

I don't think you are saving as much time as you believe by driving 80 miles per hour compared to 70 especially if you can make it without charging going 70 miles per hour. 400 mile trip at 80 miles per hour its 5 hours + the time of charge that you will need. 400 miles at 70 miles per hour is 5 hours and 45 min. This might work out to about 15 maybe 20 min of time savings. at. 80 miles per hour but with the added hassle of finding a usable charger and hoping there is no line to wait in. This is also over a 400 mile trip. The average vacation road travel is 314 miles one way and the less the miles the less the time savings by driving fast. In California where I am most of our vacation road trips are less than 300 miles one way. To get people to adopt faster they have to know they can get places without having to charge even though they may still charge, the thought in mind that there is no need to charge is what is needed to be known. The ability to know you can get to your destination/Hotel without using a charger will also free up the chargers for people who actually do need those chargers because they are on a much longer trip. The convenience of knowing you have the range to get from home area to a destination hotel along with the process of getting your charging parking space at the hotel would be great content for all EV owners. I know driving slow is boring to you so maybe Max or your dad could do these types of videos.

I have a Model S Plaid, so I'm not an EV hater, but I have said it for over a decade: When EVs have 1000km of real range, as in; highway speed driving, in the cold, then there will be no upsides for an ICE as a daily driver. That means long road trips without having to waste time at a DC charger, that means amazing charging speed for 400km-ish of real world range (when you do need to stop for that one insane road trip, or you don't have charging at your destination), that means a lot of pre-heating of cabin, and driving in the winter, without having to charge it every 3-4 days when you have barley driven the car. I love my Plaid, and even when I charge it at work 5/7 days a week to 90%, it's still at the lower side of SOC if I do a bit of small driving during the weekend. Like 2 total hours of driving + sentry mode since Friday and I was at 20% SOC today. If this was the winter, I would probably have to charge it before today.

This video is bad advertisement for Lucid Air, since the trip of Pasadena to Phoenix is less than 400 miles, while Lucid claims a 450 to over 500 mile range, the ride should of had zero range anxiety. With anxiety the Lucid arrived in Phoenix with only 6 miles left. Pay almost half the price and get a Cadillac Lyriq which has fast charging and a over 300 mile range. Lucid, and Rivian are way way over priced

I just do not get the need for everyone wanting to speed around everywhere. Even here you talk about using radar detectors and are so blasé about breaking the laws while being in “efficient” cars. The faster you go the more juice you use and the sooner you have to plug in. Also I am guessing most of the electricity being put into these vehicles is not renewable and will not be for a long time.
