Lucie, this is 12 yo Angelina & guitarist Ivan Mendez creating this impromptu, unrehearsed, one take masterpiece performance. She is making up the arrangement as she goes & Ivan is just following whatever she does. He's hearing this for the 1st time & has said the hardest thing about playing for Angelina is maintaining his concentration as he just gets lost in her singing. The co-writer of the song, Michelle Phillips, who is the last surviving member of the Mommas & Pappas, was totally blown away by this performance. She tagged it on their official website, which is total respect from the creator of the song.

Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his KZbin channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover came about. In a nutshell ( I mean in summary, I can't give an interview of almost 40 minutes in two sentences, please listen to Ivan Mendez yourself. ) "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. Then Ivan played the melody and Angelina says" good but slower, slower , even slower. OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand.👣 💯 *AJ* 💯👣

This has always been a favorite song of mine. The unique sound of the 1960’s Mamas and the Papas was immediately recognizable. Here, Angelina does what she does better than any singer I’ve ever heard. She re-imagines the song, and the lyrics hit us completely differently than the original. And it’s done with a beautiful voice, respecting the original, but making it completely Angelina. I could listen to this everyday.

Anytime she’s singing with Ivan Mendez, she’s only 12. What’s amazing is that from 6 on, at least with the videos that her team has uploaded, she had that part of her voice that had that rasp and deepness, to her incredible 10's, where her voice was as good as any other professional artist, and even to the point where she was able to really control the deepness from the age of 11 to 12, and then fully on from 13 on.❤

Wonderful reaction, Lucie. No many 12 year old girls can take a classic song from over 55 years ago, which was a light ballad, to turn it into a slow one and melancholy song that fills you with emotions. The musical intelligence with which she reworks the old songs (and not just those), is simply amazing and her ability to exploit only the accompaniment of the simple guitar sound is incredible, I really believe that only this little girl with Donald Ducks on her shirt can do it so easily and harmoniously. The simplicity and ease with which she deals with songs of this type, without preparing them and often recorded on the first or second run (as reported by her guitarists), is simply amazing even more for a 12/13 year old girl, not to mention her vocal range. I love her stripped versions of the classics songs she chooses.💛🧡❤

Mesmerized reaction: a great reflection of us when we listen to this! Irony and amazement - this song's lyrics have a lot of melancholy, which she conveys perfectly, somewhat unlike the original by the Mamas and the Papas. The ironic part - the lyrics sound like something that a person in, perhaps, Oslo Norway might sing on a gray winter day. But - she and her family had permanently moved to LA from Norway this very year, so she's California Dreamin....while in California 😮. She's 12 here, which you know whenever you see the talented young Mexican guitarist Ivan Mendez accompanying her.
