That is likely because the Priest was dead and Lucifer was talking to his soul, like in the pilot. CHLOE: So, you had a conversation with a dead guy? LUCIFER: Oh, no, he wasn't quite dead. His soul hadn't crossed the threshold.

I think the best explanation of Lucifer I can give is: He is a man with massive daddy issues. That's it: Staggeringly massively gargantuan Daddy issues. At his core he is troubled by his unresolved relationship with his father. That is why he's so venomous towards his father's clergy. He's so blinded by his hatred, that it takes him a while to realize he likes Father Frank. It's also why he's so mad on Father Frank's behalf. His kinship with the man is increased because as Lucifer sees it, Frank too was betrayed by God. It is why he rages at God on the man's behalf.

I love this one. WHYYYYYYY gives me chills every time. Such desperation and anger in his voice. And both of the balcony scenes are superb. Asking Frank if he needs a light, because he is the light bringer. Then not being able to light his own light. The monologue is so sad. He made a friend and lost him immediately.
@_k_n_9 ай бұрын
I think the best way to explain his vitriol towards clergymen is this: think about someone who has wronged you DEEPLY over and over again. Then think about people who say that person is perfect and good because that is the image that horrible person has managed to keep. Think about how much that would suck and you having no power to chnage their minds. Like an abuser with a clean public image being venerated while you know the depths of their depravity.

Lucifers attitude towards people who play at religion is probably from the time in hell watching people torture themselves with the evil acts the have done. He truly gets to see everyone's true desires. He has seen millions of the righteous fall short. I would think it is much like a cop who gets jaded seeing the same people do same crimes repeatedly.

The Palmettow case (and its aftermath) will be around for a while. One thing that Lucifer (show) does right, is that characters are affected by the episodes they experience as they move forward. Most episodic TV shows are not. Like Star Trek (TOS, particularly) the characters are stagnant, they dont change or grow during the season. Firefly is almost the exact opposite every character changes a little with each experience during the season. The characters will all grow and change as the season progresses. Linda is often used as the catalyst for Lucifer's changes or verbalizing it for the audience so they're not baffled by Lucifer's erratic decisions. The church in this episode was the St James Anglican Church in Vancouver BC, its also been used in iZombie, Fringe, Batwoman, & Charmed.
@corbanb59 ай бұрын
The church has blamed Lucifer for all evil for centuries so his hatred of them is pretty well placed. He brings out peoples desires but his name is synonymous with evil so yes he's a bit pissed at being the most hated being in existence.

I don't think this is necessarily when the season or show "takes off". At least for me it was just at some point I realized I was enjoying the shit out of my time with the characters. This is the first time the show starts asking existential questions. Additionally you can see the depths of Lucifers "daddy issues" and his interpretation of what being sent to Hell meant. In my opinion the lack of a Devil Face was a choice by the writers, not necessarily Lucifer's. At that point he's consumed by rage and grief wondering "why?". I really liked the amount of rage he displays as well. For being such an apparently "surface level" show, Lucifer is a very complex character.

Lucifer railing at God in that near-final scene is one of my favorites. It really shows the complexity of Lucifer's feelings about his father and how angry and hurt he is. "Break your rules and you fall, follow them and you still lose?! Nobody can win, so what's the bloody point?" It's an interesting take on his character I hadn't considered before, and I really like this episode. His unexpected sort-of friendship with Father Frank, his anger at God's plan, his defensiveness and rebellion against his father, even his seeing a priest in a different light than he did at the beginning of the episode... great stuff!

For us humans, Lucifer's emotions may seem obvious and simplistic, but we have to see them from Lucifer's perspective: that of a spoiled rich child who is the son of a famous and powerful being. He has tantrums against his dad, who forbade him to interact with humans, and he only knows the worst of human nature because, after all, he is the ruler of hell. Every episode teaches him about emotional threat; doubt, fear, jealousy, friendship, loneliness, anger, and so on. The cool part of every Lucifer episode is immersing in his struggles and trying to understand where his feelings come from.

While this version of Lucifer originated in the Sandman series of comics, they would be considered unrelated continuities. The visceral feelings aimed at Lucifer's father is still pretty consistent. At one point in the Sandman, Cain comes to Hell as a messenger. Cain is sent because he was considered safe as no one would risk the wrath of the Almighty by acting against a person with the mark that Cain has (promise of vengeance multiplied yadda yadda scripture stuff). Lucifer meets Cain, doesn't care, grabs him by the hair, and dangles Cain as Lucifer takes wing over Hell. So yeah, there's a history of strong feelings towards Lucifer's father, as well as anyone connected.

10 bloody Mary's and a good shag! Such a sardonic quip on typical penance instruction at confession. And wow if the nuns at Catholic school looked like that - life would have been much different! Humor aside, yes Dan was truly a douche as Lucifer has always recognized... in letting Chloe think she was delusional. But in Dan's defense, he did shoot a fellow cop in cold blood, irrespective of his attempting to protect Chloe. But if he did come clean with her, he would either corrupt her if she kept quiet about it, or he would end up fired or in jail - so trying to steer her towards dropping or dismissing the Palmetto case seemed to Dan like the only way to navigate those troubled waters.... He was still a douche, but somewhat understandable in those decisions. And wow, Amenadiel is certainly not acting very Angelic now is he? And isn't it interesting that Chloe did not want to get closer to Dan, but rather felt the urge to be with Lucifer as he needed a friend... And Lucifer finding Knocking on Heaven's Door distasteful when Father Frank played it, but then after his new friend died to save Conner, Lucifer felt the need to play the song himself....

Hi there and hello Ms. Anna. You are pretty observant watching Lucifer. I only just thought to look for the translation from Bad-guy Dan to Good-guy Dan. In the beginning Dan is seen to be wearing black leather jackets and is a bit of a nasty tough guy. But some where he transitions into a good-guy. I see here in this episode he is wearing a brown leather jacket. Is this the beginning of his transformation do you think? Will it be abrupt or more drawn out do you think? You would think that a ‘Man’ of Lucifer’s status and wealth could afford to put a passworded elevator number pad in HIS elevator. It’s like leaving the front door open, not just unlocked, by wide open. Anybody and everybody just rides right up and strolls right in. Often at the Most inopportune times.

Not gonna lie, I'm a bit sad to hear that someone spoiled something kind of important for you so soon into the series. This series plays a very long game and everything is important to building up the overall story progression with some of the most fun coming from speculating on what's to come given all the information you currently have so that when that next big piece of info comes it either validates your thought process or conversely opens your eyes to some of the clues you may have overlooked. With that being said, the one thing that I will say is that almost every question you have about the show will be answered by the show by the time it ends in its final season so if it starts to feel like people are leaving spoilery comments more often in your videos then it might be best for your first-time enjoyment of the show to simply not engage with them UNLESS you have someone to moderate them for you as this is always a risky thing when it comes to watching any media that has already been seen by the masses and is interesting enough for people to want to talk about it.

I re-watched your reaction because I was distracted the 1st time. I’m sorry that someone spoiled the fact that Chloe needs to be close to Lucifer for him to be hurt. That’s part of the fun of the season, learning all these little details. I’ve thought about the Father Frank situation and how it seemed cruel of God to put him through all of this but…how about this…Father Frank used to be on a different path when his daughter was alive. He could have also been killed in the accident and might have gone to hell. Instead, he survived and was given an opportunity to change his life, grow and help others….to be sent to heaven (to be with his daughter) instead of hell. Plus he also was put in Lucifer’s path to help Lucifer grow and have new feelings. There I said it. It’s all part of God’s plan, which isn’t finished yet 😉 And I am not even a religious person but…

If this keeps up I'll be known in this channel as the annoying guy who makes character breakdowns. But comments are good for the algorithm, so here we go. Was Lucifer's hatred towards the priest misplaced? Definitely, but that was the point. He was projecting the hatred towards his father to the priest. It was a very good way to show us in a tangible way the extension of his resentment to his father. (I feel uncomfortable referring to this fictionalized version of the devil's father as God or capitalizing the word father or pronouns). Sure we heard Lucifer complaining about him, but we never saw it directed at a character on screen. This episode was great character development for him because by the end of it he overcame that projection and started seeing the priest as his own person instead of seeing the connection he had to his father, and just imagine how much of his pride he had to swallow to basically pray at the end. It was chef's kiss.
